I caught it immediately... and it's the line that affects me most. It breaks my heart.
That resonates so much with me I lost my young beautiful nephew of only 20yrs because of this awful world and many a young man a saw grow up since babies around my area.just a tiny little town in the Highlands.
I thought it was for our military. Young men signing up. Ending up dead. Men and women. But it could mean a lot to everyone. Either way it’s horrible and sad and true.

I think many people have caught on to that meaning. He flows so quickly from fudge rounds it's not as easy to pick up.
But listening to it dozens of times helps solidify the messages of the song. Dozens of times, but I still cannot listen to it enough.
We all tear up to this one. It just hits a chord. I hope this song is remembered for a long time!

It’s truth but better said than most
It is OBVIOUS that our Lord and Savior has his hands on this and it wont be stopped and CAN NOT be stopped. the world is waking up instead of just being WOKE. I am a 61 year old Jarhead and do not cry, this song and these words have me crying every time I hear it. The first time that I was introduced to this song I had to stop listening while acting like I was because I was going to cry like a baby. Now I could not care any less. months later I still tear up. Thank you for one of the best and thoughtful reactions I have heard. GOD BLESS EVERYONE😇😇😇😇🙏
Don't mess with a crying man ( not talking about a boo-hoo-er ) I'm 56 & have this for this for I don't even remember how long . If a man is in public with tears & don't seem to mind if someone sees he's not a place to be messed with & very bad things could happen if you do .

It's amazing how a song can spark something so big.
Billions, there is not a working person in the world that this does not resonate with. I have seen reactions from Pakistani villagers, Indian villagers, English, German, Russian, Polish, Nigerian, Egyptian, Brazilian, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, Indonesian. Basically this is how every average worker in the world feels.

And it's a worldwide anthem, I've seen reactions from all over the world to this song, india, germany, uk, africa, sweden, netherlands and more countries, nearly everybody cries or they hold back there tears, myself included, it's such a good and strong song.. Just pure facts! The new worldwide working class anthem!

I found your channel through Oliver Anthony, you have a lot of good advice on there that I'm thinking about as a guy in my 20s trying to navigate this new world. I wasn't really aware that this world was this bad until i came across this song because it's all I've known. This song made me realize that I want to eventually be a pillar for my people and not just try to make a good life for myself. Those rich men of Richmond are doing exactly the opposite to their own people.

Careful. In your mad scramble to avert communism, your country is skidding toward fascism. Mine is too, especially here in Alberta. This song rightfully slams both sides. Consider who you are getting your info from, and who you are willing to cede authority to, and how much. Authoritarian thinking can creep in from each end of the spectrum, and it DOES matter that a target is being painted on any one given group. I want brilliant, innovative people to get rich and I want people who are in dire straits to be fed and sheltered AND I want people putting in 40 hrs. or more to live a comfortable life beyond their jobs. Inequities need to be addressed, not targets painted. There are mechanisms in each philosophy that mitigate the worst in their opposite. There are no excuses anymore to write off good ideas just "because." Too much empirical data exists on what works and what doesn't Your declaration of "Communism!" is just such a write-off -- especially in light of the fact that small "c" communism has worked in farming communities for millennia. But then, so has small "c" capitalism. Even small "f" fascism has it uses. But with this plethora of knowledge, no excuses. Listen to the song. Let it hit you. Do not let any any one group suborn it into an anthem for their cause because, frankly, some of those groups are just painting targets on things for you to do the shooting and on you to do the dying.

We all are just human beings who, for the most part, want the same things in life.
So far this guy breaks this down perfectly. Oliver is a hero! He’s touched so many acrsss socioeconomic lines. We can be one!
My view is this song is about discord. The expectation of the social contract which has been annihilated (great description). Practically every lyric makes a statement, which is followed by discorded reality. Of course the gem of the song is how politicians want to control everything, which wouldn't even be so bad, if they simply gave a shit about the electorate, rather than accumulating more power and enriching themselves.

(The discord, or in this case a simultaneous similarly, between the lack of concern over the working class and abusing defenseless children)

(The discord between the mental illness, opiate/ fentanyl/ suicide epidemic ((btw overdoses are rarely ever counted as suicides)) and politicians once again completely ignoring the issues of the working class, as the cost of living keeps increasing with no relief, including the increase in energy prices which is the most regressive and its actually a planned political policy with no consideration at all of the consequences on the poor and middle class).

I’m elated to find you having well articulated substance to add. I think yours is the definitive reaction video people need to watch for any kind of insight into this song that they may need help with.
I put this in a few places, but it needs repeating. The powers that be are going to hate this guy for the unity he brings to the people. I found you through your reaction to 'Hi Ren'. I was glad to see you reacted to this song, because I frankly look at this song as a litmus test. Your reaction, thoughts, and gut impulses relating to this song tell me so much about you. I've shown this song to almost everyone I know to sort of gauge their reaction to it. People who are disinterested, or write this off as some kind of "far right" dogwhistle, are truly so out of touch that I think they might be beyond the pale.

I watched The Tribals React react to this, two Urdu laborers who had the song translated into Urdu, they were crying by the end. "This is so true"
This one hits me pretty hard, I deliver commercial Meals On Wheels, because at 40 I decided I wasn't going to work where I wasn't helping people directly, and see the welfare abuse Daily. All the people who think it's "mythical" need to get out and DO something instead of being in the Ivory Tower they are in. The street is more real to me than the nightly news ever was.

Rich men north of Richmond... besides the beautiful alliterations, he means the guys up north - the Yankee power, in the Southern sense of the word. He's from Virginia, a good ol' boy from the South. Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy, which at the time was up against the rich Yankee men. Yes, Washington DC, Boston, NYC, mainly. Nothing has changed in +160 years.
Beautiful music, great poetry, so much meaning and emotion in so few words. As a working class person from France, I really feel what he says, especially about welfare that is given to lazy people and refused to people in need and that work hard or are willing to work hard. I was in this situation once, and was just told to make do. Which I did and managed to survive.
I interpreted the song in the same way as you. Thank you. I love hearing from people from France. I have a soft spot for the French.
