I'm also not a fan of them removing the stalks. With everything else in Tesla already being so simplified and streamlined compared to an I.C.E car, this wasn't a necessary change and should be optional when ordering the Highland. Additionally, they removed the option to change your braking settings for 2024 models and going forward. I'm always a fan of options so that change isn't great either.
I have a M3 LR highland here in Australia and the blinkers are not an issue at all. Similar to riding a motorcycle. I love the simplicity. This car is amazing at all levels. I couldn't be happier
@@paulcane7160Very true.
Yeah more on this on the full review tomorrow.. I think depending on where you live in the world, it makes a big difference. If you live in the USA, Australia, Canada, where aren’t that many roundabouts it’s really a non-issue. If you live in Italy, England, France, et cetera where there’s lots of roundabouts it becomes quite a big issue as I’ll show you in my main video
I have had mine a month now, has never been an issue. Took 30 minutes to get used to.
Can u pls explain “removed options to change braking settings”? Do u mean that 1 peddle drive is only option?
I also think that the loss of stalks is a retrograde step. They don't have roundabouts in the USA so don't care about indicator confusion when exiting roundabouts. I also find that using the stalk for rapid changes between forward and reverse during 3 point turns very intuitive especially as there is no need to use the brake pedal below 5mph.
There are definitely roundabouts in the USA lol
@@PPCCO.I can attest, it definitely depends on where you live tho
Certainly very few roundabouts in the USA and I haven't seen any in California. The lack of interest in improving the auto wipers is another indication as to the heritage of the Tesla design. My old 2011 VW Golf had better rain sensing than my 2021 M3.
I also think that autopilot will find roundabouts difficult. To join a roundabout efficiently humans can often tell if a car is leaving by watching its driver. Not easy to program that into autopilot. OK if all vehicles have autopilot but will lead to sluggish joining in the meantime.
Yeah I agree they definitely don’t have as many as we do here in the UK. I think a lot of US uses don’t think about the concept that the steering wheel is a moving target button and in some cases the buttons will be upside down and the top will go right in the bottom will go left and vice versa.
I think that they are also getting a bit ahead of themselves as the indicator problem will be less of an issue with 'fly by wire' steering.
The only reason why I would not buy one is because of a missing indicator stalk. Otherwise great car review
Yes that makes no sense to me.
Thanks full review coming soon
My feelings exactly the same. Why not a factory option?
Lack of indicator stalk is stupid and you’re going to need to visually find it at times, not sure about direction choice on screen either.
Yes I tend to agree it’s a little bit awkward even though I’m getting used to it there are times when I’m driving at quite high speed and I have to look at where the button is which is not great
Just a quick first impression to whet your appetite, any questions you want answered in the full review? comment below!
Excellent stuff! Love the ultra red!
I think compared to our Model 3 2021 I’d feel the same as you sound insulation wise. However for owners 2018/2019 it might be a bigger difference since we have double glazing at the front already compared to 2018/2019 ones. So that’s were the 30% came from?
@@mrv6159 yeah I have the 2021 with double glazing in the front and it’s still a bit improvment, every touch point inside the car is now soft which helps
Would love to know about the seats. I have the 2021 Model 3 SR+ and the seat base is just too small for me. I am around 6ft 3 and it does not offer enough under leg support on a longer journey.
Do you know if the Floor Mats & Boot liner from the 2019-2023 Model fit the 2024 Highland ? Be great to know in your full review.
My Ultra Red is scheduled for delivery in 3 weeks so good to know in advance if my current 2019 All Weather Mats will fit.
@@jamo19781978 same issue in the MY
Thanks for posting this Mark! I reckon the lack of stalks is a huge mistake on Tesla’s part, and not just because of the indicators. On my Model 3 (also 2021), I have learned to habitually use the end of the stalk to activate the wipers rather than rely on the (dreadful) automatic setting, not sure how I’d use this new setup for activating wipers quickly…maybe a custom wheel button press.
Thank Mark! 👍 full review coming soon! Yeah my end of stalk button is wearing out haha! On this new car there is a button on the steering wheel, but honestly the wipers aren’t any better
Indicators on the steering wheel is a poor idea I agree. American designers clearly haven’t done their research on Europe where roundabouts are common.
Yeah I tend to agree I don’t think they’ve been flying around roundabouts in the UK when testing this out
Thanks for doing this Mark. Excellent first overview. I hope they will make an exception for UK and (where possible) bring back the indicator stalk. We need eyes on the road when things are busy. It will be interesting to see if you get used to the indicators in a few days time. Please keep us posted
They won’t be making an exception for the UK 😂
Thanks Bob I wish they would! I’m getting used to it, but it’s certainly not ‘better’
Put a piece of Velcro around wheel at 9 o’clock position so you can find the buttons by FEEL.
You set braking mode to HOLD to get the regen braking.
@@scottbreseke716 It didn’t even show up as menu option
Regen braking is in Pedals And Steering menu. Set it to Standard. You have to be in Park before you can change it.
Hey Scott yes I’ve checked and it’s not here even in park on this car
@@MBrown I've gotten new information since my last post. In the new models, Tesla has removed the other braking options. So now Hold in on all of the time.
Never driven a Tesla with the Yoke or Stalks removed, though I want to experience it. I get that it is completely different, but I don’t see that as bad. It might be awkward at first, but that doesn’t make it bad. The best argument I see for the stalks is, they’ve been used since the beginning of time, and they work, so why change it. But that isn’t a great argument. If every car since the beginning of time had turn signal buttons and everyone has learned to drive with them, the same argument would be made about adding stalks.
So many things in a car are the way they are because that’s how they have been for ever. It doesn’t mean that is the best way to do it, it just means that the builders have never looked for ways to innovate, as prove by tesla with EV cars, unboxed production process, 48v electrical systems, direct sales model, mobile service, etc…
Hey Jason they’re bad because they are a moving target, we have so many roundabouts here that you just don’t know where the button will be, it could be on your left, you right etc and when the wheel moves around the top button, is now the bottom button if that makes sense
@@MBrown I totally get that and understand, but here in the US, we are not required to signal exits at a roundabout. I honestly can’t think of a situation where I am using the turn signal while in the middle of a turn. In my daily driving, the turn signal is engaged 99% of the time with the wheels pointing straight ahead before beginning the turn process. Maybe in a parking lot, as you are rounding a corner, you might want to signal to tell others you are taking a parking spot, and in that situation I could see the turn signal buttons being difficult, for but that is rare for me as well.
Just looked it up and the Tesla SEXY buttons can be programmed to control Turn Signals on the Model 3 Highland. They would be a good alternative to anyone who doesn’t like the removal of turn signal stalks.
beautiful color Mark overall great looking Model 3 the interior looks terrific…simplistic. excellent review thank you
Thanks for watching!
The elimination of the stalk for the indicators just seems a terrible idea. I am not sure that I could ever get used to it.
I’m starting to get a little used to it, however I still don’t think it’s an actual improvement
Everyone wants a Tesla. People that cant afford one, has to critisize, but never mention that they cant solve the money problem. Beautiful car. Every Tesla owner I have talked to (hundreds) are very satisfied with their super electric car. Easy to get used (minutes) to the advanced technology of Tesla, just like an Iphone. If you find that complicated, you are in deep shit. 😎
Hey I do own a Tesla already
I think one thing they could do is use a voice activated indicator. It might be easier if you just press a button and say ‘left’ or ‘right’ and it just puts the indicator on.
I was thinking exactly the same. I should have read your comment, first. 👍
Yeah, that could be a good idea and would make it a little bit easier to change quickly
That would be terrible. Having to talk to put on an indicator instead of hitting a stalk?!??!
Model S yoke user here and i love the turn signal locations, got used to it the first day and prefer it, it’s so much easier and faster.
Hey Ben are you based in the USA? In the UK we have so many roundabouts it’s hard to get used to as the target is always moving. And in some cases the buttons are now upside down so up is left and down is right and visa versa.
I love change when it improves things but I just don’t see this as an improvement… can I get used to it, sure thing… but is it better. I don’t the think so
i’m in the US so i definitely understand it would be difficult in the UK with the roundabouts! @@MBrown
Steer by wire will allow hand on at all times. Voice control for signals etc.
Personally, I like the uncluttered layout. There will be "aftermarket" heads up displays - keypads for underscreen - shift knobs for console- etc. using the CAN to connect.
Overall, I would like to see the steer by wire yoke (CyberTruck) in the 2024 upgrades for the Model,s 3 and Y. It’s going to Revolutionize the driving experience.
Cheers
yes it will be interesting to see what new accessories come out for this car
Looks like improvements in all the important things except the stalk "delete". For all of us older Model 3 owners, its sort of nice knowing it is an improved car but not revolutionary.
I added sound insulation to my 2022 so it would fun to compare the two. Probably similar
Oh nice! What insulation did you add? I’d be tempted to do the same, did it make a lot of difference?
@MBrown some Dynamat in the doors, compressed cotton boot liner (for the exposed metal), although the biggest difference was from replacement drive unit guards in 3mm aluminium that have a rubbery sound deadener on the inside. I drive on remote roads in Australia so I got these to protect the motors and battery from road debris and the sound deadening was surprising. Still not as quiet as our 4WD ute but noticeably better than stock.
I'd guess your sound deadening will superior. I didn't think the road noise was much improved between the old and new model 3.
@@vasil7410 will need to try the update and find out
But it’s still missing the most important update. Tesla needs to add a front bumper camera.
One of the best suggestions I saw in another review was to place the indicator buttons each side of the steering wheel which would be less confusing to use on a roundabout. There is already talk of aftermarket stalks which might be the answer. In every other respect the new model appears superior to my 2022 M3 RWD- quieter, better suspension, cooled seats, better interior and increased efficiency/range. Pity they couldn’t have made it a hatchback as I do find the saloon configuration a bit limiting to load large/awkward items.
Many years ago I visited a large USAF airbase in East Anglia. New personnel arriving from the USA were required to undergo a UK driving assessment/test prior to driving on UK roads. When I asked the driving instructor why he pointed to the roundabout at the entrance to the base and said most base personnel would not know how to negotiate it as they had never encountered one before.
hey yes that would be quite a good idea. Would certainly make it much more simple. I actually think they have the buttons configured the wrong way round for the UK. The top button goes right and the bottom button goes left and I kind of feel that most of our turns are usually to the left, so top should be left bottom should be right
@MBrown the indicator positions are the way they are on purpose. With a stalk on the left, you would move the stalk up to indicate right, and down to indicate left. That is why the top button is for the right indicator, and the bottom is for the left indicator.
@@mobilicorpus Sure... but what happens when you go around a roundabout. The buttons are upside down when you're wheel is turning, or left and right. It's a moving target
@@MBrown I’ll let you know about that one when mine arrives. I’m in Ireland so plenty of roundabouts to test it out
@@mobilicorpus yes keep me posted! Full reviews up today about 5pm with a bit more footage
I love the look. Indicators (blinkers) on buttons, I'm not convinced. Will have to try one. Looking forward to your full review.
thanks so so much for review should be up end of next week
Updating the software to allow “indicate left” and “indicate right” commands may help, but not entirely eliminate, the problem.
Yes that would be good, only problem is I’m loud music etc
I've been looking at buying a tesla but I think I'll wait until the refreshed model y releases just for the extra storage area but if like all reports say it'll have the same new feature as the model 3 highland I can't wait because it seems pretty impressive at first glance. Just gonna have to get used to the stalks not existing anymore.
Yeah the Model Y is likely to be the same as this 3 in every way but the size.
I’ve always liked the model 3 due to the sporty look, but I think my next car will be the Y
Tesla needs to add a front bumper camera for me to upgrade my 2019 Model 3 SR+ or our new 2023 Model Y Performance. Seriously that is the critical improvement needed, especially with the removal of Radar and USS. I’m disappointed that Highland Model 3 doesn’t have this. Cybertruck having one is a positive sign. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Model Y refresh, or US Project Highland has it.
Ugh, "get used to it" - tired of hearing this, why are all reviewers scared of calling a spade a spade? It's a crap design. Stalks are so elegantly simple and should never have been changed. We need to stop making excuses for billion dollar companies - we shouldn't need to get used to it, it's a stupid design choice and people need to call it out.
I do agree with you 100% and am gonna include this in the review. I like design when it improves something… and this doesn’t
With the steer by wire, turn signal buttons are superior.
I like the new signals. When I got out of the car the other day, my elbow bumped the stalk and that started a turn signal by accident.
@@scottbreseke716 how was you getting out of the car?
@@briankavanagh7191 From seated position I rotated 90 degrees toward the left.
Nice content as ever - that spec is exactly what I have ordered 🎉
Hope you enjoy it!
The standard range has the LFP battery which does have less Regen than the older battery chemistry and with the LFP battery you can’t change the Regen, this was the same on the older version model 3 too. :)
Thanks, Tom
It's a real shame about the indicator stalk. You found the problem with it half way in the video, when the wheel wasn't straight. The rest of it is a lovely upgrade and I'm looking forward to my service centre getting one in so I can test drive! Or maybe I'll pop down to Trafford Centre to see if they've got any others to look at!!
Yes, it’s an otherwise perfect car I would still get one however it is a shame they haven’t gotten indicator stock
I could see the wipers going on intermittently, is the wiper function still bad ? that’s one thing Tesla has to improve.
Yes, it seems like the wiper function is still the same as my car, which means it comes on randomly, doesn’t come on at all which is a bit of a shame
@@MBrown same for me in my 2022 model 3.
I really dislike the removal of the stocks.
Me too
HNY Mark. Great vid. Love the red, and love the idea of cooling seats. Will be interested to see how you get on.
Thanks Richard! Yes the cooling seats are weirdly quite nice!
So, is it a significant upgrade? Some reviews say yes, some say not so much?! Still torn between this and the BYD.
I think if you currently own a 2021 model three or above I’m not sure I would upgrade however if you’re new to Tesla or have the pre-facelift model this could be a really good upgrade
Getting rid of the stalks is just penny pinching in my opinion and hurts usability (indicators that go round with the wheel - really?). Otherwise it looks good.
I tend to agree. I've gotten used to it a little but the stalk would still be better
1,000% agreed. Having the indicators constantly moving and your hands might not always be right where the indicators are is extremely unfortunate. Sometimes you have to signal quickly while making turns and having the indicator buttons moving is really a pain.
How do you activate the wipers when the auto function hasn’t kicked in? and the wash function? -interested to know
There is a wiper button on the wheel which you tap to activate or hold for screen wash
If I was in your place there and I had a ‘21 Model 3 LR in grey with the ‘18 wheels I would feel I’d have no reason whatsoever to change. Get feeling if the new one had kept the Cruise/Autopilot stalk you’d be very tempted. Where’s your road trip tomorrow?! I’d like to know if happy with charging speed. Would you wait for the Long Range and pay extra?!
Theoretical range of maybe 81% of 318. Would you be happy with that?!
So I fully charged it to 100% and it said 249 miles on this car which is weird! Was only 8c so maybe that! Road trip has now been cancelled but still going to do a lot of driving tomorrow.
Yes for me I’d always have to go for the long range as my family live in Norfolk and we’re moving to Cornwall soon
And you know what? I'm sure you would get used to the indicators after a while BUT the thing is that little indicator button, however much you get used to it, will still always be a small moving target.
I test drove the Highland last week (I currently have a 2022 RWD) and I thought maybe I could put a little red sticker around the left indicator button until I got used to it, for indicating my exit from a roundabout (UK) but that's when it occurred to me that however much I get used to it it'll still, at times, would be a moving target I'm trying to touch which isn't great.
To be fair it wasn't a problem all the time so I think it depends on the size of the roundabout, I think small being the worst.
So I'm not sure about upgrading as I also have parking sensors which I'd rather not swap for Tesla vision. Like you Mark, I did think it was nicer inside and suspension was nice but as you said, not a massive upgrade but an upgrade all the same. Will I upgrade? I don't think so although I did see a certain third party company are about to release after market stalks. Hmm...
Yeah 100% agree, I’m going to try and explain the indicators a lot more as the people who are a fan of them are only thinking about when you move in straight lines
Honestly would you say the car would be better with parking sensors. I’ve stuck with mine because all the new models don’t have them. I don’t feel the cameras are good enough. They don’t even see speed bumps on the road.
Yes 100% the vision can’t see everything
Once you test new model 3 demo that pretty much will convince yourself to trade-in your old model-3 to enjoy more nice functional specs on new model 3... Therefore, lease is a chill option to be considered
I'm keeping my 2021 at the moment just as I prefer the parking sensors and stalks... but I do love the new one!
Fantastic impressions video @MBrown - one of the best I've seen in terms of content coverage and analysis. Does the ambient lighting cause any glare on the windshield / distracting? Thank you!
Thanks so much and this was just a quick video to so hopefully a lot better footage in the full review. Yes in certain directions when driving the car you really can see the light strip. I tried to get a footage of it but it didn’t really come out in the video, so I’m gonna try and get some more over the weekend to include in the review if possible
I have high hops for this car.. Thank you... please can you focus more on the noise or squeaks of the interior if any when you drive slow windows up in the city on bumpy roads in your next video? let us know how it is. Does the interior make noise like the older model or not. Thank you!
Will do! Yes this is much quieter than mine and less squeaking
Helpful review Mark. I have a 2021 M3 and love it. This looks a great step forward APART from the lack of stalks. I share multiple adverse comments on this and wonder if Tesla will be able to sustain this. The other good point made by another comment is what happens if the screen goes down. Can you start the car or are you immobilised? Look forward to your next review
Glad it was helpful! Yes I cover this a bit more in the full review coming up tomorrow!
Mark, not a Tesla owner but some of the complaints I have read is that the windscreen wipers don't work properly, seemed to work brilliantly in the sun (sorry had to be said) hahahaha, looks nice on the inside but still looks the same on the outside.
Hey, yes that’s a true criticism. The ones in my car work okay most of the time but sometimes you’re fine I’ll just come on when it’s completely sunny and not raining or when it is raining won’t come on at all and you have to manually press the button
Happy New Year. Really enjoying your videos. Minor point but I ended up replacing the lights in the doors, footwell and boot in our 2021 Model 3 as the factory ones were next to useless. Is that still the case?
They’ve improved them a little bit in the new model 👍 the boot is still pitch black though
If you have the Sr could you see if it has footwell lights. And please test the so called vision parking system. Thank you.
Hey yes it does have footwell lights
Imagine if you’re eating food in your car and or something spills on the screen or have salty greasy finger tips and the screen stops working. User interfaces don’t always respond. Removing the stalk is a terrible idea.
Thanks for the comment 👍
hmmm…indicators look very tricky to use not good
thanks, Kenny. 👍
Regen option probably locked out because you’re in a press profile. Much like the top speed limiter on loan cars.
Apparently, it’s being fully removed on the new cars
Surely the indicators issue is a massive safety issue!! As you have already highlighted numerous times in such a quick review. Crash waiting to happen be caused people will be incorrectly indicating through no fault of their own but its almost impossible if the wheel is upside down if you’re not quick thinking. What about the magic roundabout in Swindon, that would be a nightmare to navigate with the indicators.
Hey Steve , I’ll be covering this in more detail in my full review which is going to be live tomorrow afternoon about 5 pm 👍
I’ll reserve judgment on the stalk delete until I’ve tried it. Remember reviewers hated having the speedometer on the screen and now it’s a non-issue.
Yeah 100% you’ve got to try it, I cover it a bit more in the full review video going live tomorrow. I think it depends what country you live in and how many roundabouts there are where you live. If there aren’t any it won’t be a problem at all… if there are a lot, it’s a problem
Indicators are a massive problem for the uk i think. We have roundabouts everywhere. I feel this is an American idea. Still a stunning update. KBO. Really good channel
Totally agree!
Thanks for this Mark - always look forward to your videos!
Don't you think the indicators on the wheel make you keep your hands at 10 & 2?
I took the Highland SR for a test drive last year & I like it - but the speakers quality is not a patch on my LR - is it worth the extra cash for that, probs not...
Thank you! So yes for regular driving it’s fine, but on a roundabout it is a little awkward as you never quite know where there button will be
Thanks Mark , I always look at your advice and experience before committing purchase , you and you alone convinced me that the 2022 Model 3 was the right car for me and it was. Great review and keep up the good work.
Thanks so much David that’s really kind and glad I could help! The good news is that if you have the 22, you’re not missing too much with this model!
It is also pretty attractive on the new upgraded model-3 ... Encourage you all should go test drive the new model-3
Hi mark, when you were trying to find regen settings in the menu…. On my model 3 there is no way to turn regen on or off…. Pretty sure it would be the same on yours…. I remember when I test drove the model 3 abou 2.5 years ago the guy at Tesla said they removed the ability to adjust regen about a month before
Thank you, yeah it doesn’t seem to be in this car
Big fan of Teslas especially in Red.
Yes this red is really very nice
Nice one Mark, looking forward to your full review 👍
Happy New Year 😃
Thanks 👍
Thanks for a good overview Mark. I have to hand back my 21 plate LR at the end of this year. I feel like the lack of both USS and indicator stalks will lead me to jump ship and look at a Polestar 4 instead…
Thanks David! Full review uploading this week
I suppose I am not the target audience for Tesla, but it is making its cars less attractive to me with each update. Parking sensors are cheap and effective and nothing it has done to replace them so far is as good. Indicator stalks are cheap, simple and effective so it deletes them. What about the 3 flash function which most people use for changing lane etc? Assume that has gone?? I know our friends in China have probably already made a stick on indicator stalk but should that be necessary?
I think we can assume that Tesla drivers just won't bother to indicate properly at roundabouts - but hey, plenty with stalks don't do that anyway!
Then they add cost by fitting ambient lighting! What use is that compared to a good old indicator stalk
thanks for the comment. Yes I agree you shouldn’t have to buy something else to make something work.
Thanks for that. Of course I’ll test drive one first, but I fear my late ‘21 M3 will be my last Tesla. It’s hard to see how properly traversing roundabouts with buttons is possible without looking down at the buttons. Until steer by wire comes to all their cars this is sadly a deal breaker when there’s other great cars out there. To (mis)quote that awful man: sometimes the best part is actually a part! Keep up the Good work Mark.
I reckon the next gen for all teslas will be 48v and steer by wire
I don’t know how Ferrari drivers have managed for the last 20+ years then….
They did it the right way though, one button each side of the wheel
Ryzen chips always beat out Intel chips....
Yeah, they are better
Check out the emergency release in the back door bin on the left hand side I think that’s a really super cool feature (under the carpet flap) 😊
Thanks will do!
I think your reviews of Tesla are the best I’ve seen. You did strongly influence me to get one last year after watching your very balanced and knowledgeable reviews many times and it is the best car I’ve owned. I do wonder if this new model will be more expensive to insure as it could be harder to repair with the single piece gigacasting used? Presumably it is cheaper to replace a small part rather than a large part. No mention has been made of this so wondered if this could be considered but I am looking forward to your review. I think this could be something I would want to explore if I were looking to replace my car which I don’t think I will be.
Thanks so much Christopher! The full review is uploading now, so will be up tomorrow! 👍👍
Maybe they should add voice control for “indicate left” “indicate right” without pushing a button on the steering wheel ?
Yeah, that would be quite good
I wonder if the dash, side pillar and all the doors will rattle like the previous generation?
So far so good!
You can't set the Regen anymore it is always just set at Full Regen.
cheers, thanks Sheryl, I didn’t realise they changed that
Gear selector on the screen is fine, but my muscle memory will keep reaching for a turn signal stalk for some time. I did used to ride motorcycles with buttons for the turn signals and I adapted to those, so I think it'll be okay. Still think that was an odd decision by Tesla.
Yeah I agree 👍
No indicator storks is a joke tbh.
We need to bring back buttons and dials not get rid of more! 😩
yeah, even for someone who’s had a Tesla for three years, this does take some getting used to
Really don’t see the problem with removing the stalks. For anyone that rides a motorbike they will know switching to using a button is instinctive
The main problem is that the steering wheel rotates 360° so sometimes the buttons will be at the top. Sometimes will be at the bottom and then of course the order of the button changes.
@@MBrown fair point. I guess the US is only getting its 2nd roundabout so maybe they’ve not seen the bigger picture outside the borders
Still don’t know what to make of the indicators on the steering wheel but I guess in time you would definitely get use to it,so love the Ultra Red,definitely need a lottery win now lol ,cheers fella 👍😉💪
Yeah the Ultra red looks really nice!
In pretty much every car I've owned, I've always had this situation where whilst I'm turning, I want to change the volume, or skip a song using the buttons on the steering wheel. Each and every time, it always took a bit of mental gymnastics to figure out what to press. I imagine this is exactly the same with these new indicator buttons. Very weird decision from Tesla. I get that they're pushing for self-driving cars, but we're years away from anything like that. And when we do get it, we'll likely not need a steering wheel at all. We're in this kind of in-between stage that's just less usable. It feels like Elon is just trying to be edgy. Same thing with the door handles, massive touch screen, and the lack of usable parking sensors. Trading usability for "coolness factor".
Yeah, I tend to agree the car it is otherwise almost perfect and this one little thing ruins it a little bit
Removing the stalks was a bad move. That indicator moving with the steering wheel seems very awkward
Yes, it’s possible to get used to it, but it’s just not better
I am sure I read somewhere in a future update the car will automatically indicate when following navigation, I do hope this will be the case but at this stage, it certainly seems like the cart before the horse. I don't really see the loss of the gear stalk as an issue though.
hopefully this will be the case, but at the moment it does make it a little bit harder to drive around mini roundabouts and things like that
How much British money did you pay for your model 3? Is this the standard rear wheel drive or? Which battery? Thanks
Hey, so this is a four day loan from Tesla. However in the UK this car costs £40,000.
Why did the wipers keep going on?
They don’t work very well 😂
There is an automatic mode for them
My M3LR 2021 China built has a lot of tyre noise which is far worse than other premium cars. You seem to indicate there is not much change with the noise. After having it for 4 days what is your view?
Oh yes it’s loads better! Full review going live tomorrow afternoon and I’ve done a better job at recording the noise (as in this video my main microphone was commected)
I noticed wipers turn on randomly.
yes unfortunately I can confirm they haven’t been improved in this model
You need to have a sound deadening sock on your microphone as your current set up amplifies all the road noise. This makes it difficult to hear all you are saying !!!!!!!!
Hey Rog I was wearing a mic but it disconnected so I had to use the built in audio which wasn’t so good
The missing stalks are an opportunity for the after market ... just like the missing instrument cluster was.
hey Phil, yes I’m sure we’re going to see some really interesting accessories come out soon
Stalk is important for me
Yeah, I think it might affect a lot of people bad as you may think, but it is very awkward
I realise you only had a brief drive of the updated Tesla, but SURELY you noticed the terrible reflection of the dashboard in the windscreen !!!!!
To be honest it wasn't quite as bad as I thought, it happens if the sun is behind you but for my whole 4 days, I could only see it maybe for 5-10 mins
The lack of a turn signal stalk follows Tesla’s philosophy, best part is no part. If it’s good enough for Ferrari…
Ferrari did it the right way, though they put the left on the left side of the steering wheel, and the right on the right hand side makes it super easy
The turn signals on the wheel would probably work quite well on steer-by-wire wheels like the CT. I wonder if steer-by-wire is coming for all models in the near future (2-3 years). I would think that now that the Cybertruck has it and Tesla is eliminating the stalks in all their models, all this might be foreshadowing.
I think you’re right. But Elon needs to try exiting a roundabout…. I mean I’ve sometimes tried finding the vol up while steering hard… it fries your brain 😂
Yes, it would be good to try out the steer by wire cars
is their a voice command for park drive reverse?
No at the moment
Was waiting for this vid! Awesome :D
Hope you enjoyed it! Full review coming soon, which will be a lot more detailed
Indicators and gear stalk removal. A solution to a problem that never existed...ie pointless. Other than that the car is a nice incremental step up on the original model 3 for sure.
hey Matt, yes I agree with you there
Hi Mark. Good review however I will not be changing my Model 3 AWD. anytime soon as the absence of the stalks, for me, is a deal breaker
Yeah I think it could be for a lot of people
Aftermarket stalks to the rescue and then its close to the complete small EV
Business ideas right there
Thanks for the thoughtful reply Noah
When is the next full review being released? It would be interesting to see the efficiency at different speeds and the potential real world motorway range (have you been given a mileage limit?)
hey Jack, I’m still filming the review at the moment and hope to have it edited and uploaded by the end of next week as I only have the car for four days. I’m not going to be able to do any true efficiency tests unfortunately unfortunately, but hopefully Tesla will let me borrow the car again.
I want to understand how much can be controlled with voice control. It would be ideal if the indicators worked on voice control decision to remove the stalks was an idiotic idea which will cost Tesla sales.
At the moment there is no way to control it with your voice (the indicators)
Do the indicators work with voice control... so if you said indicate left mid roundabout does that work?
I can confirm in this car, the indicators do not work with voice control
Even if they did, that would be horrendous to have to do every time you turn
the only thing tesla is missing is supersonic speaker option so anyone in the car could listen to thier own music =)
ha ha that would be a great feature
Can’t see how you can obey UK Highway Code 184
Indicate left after you have passed previous exit
With the wheel at rotation of between 90-180 degrees
This should not have been approved for UK roads
Yeah I’d love the stalks added back in
The indicator would drive me mad I reckon. I love my M3, I was hoping for a bigger 'refresh' than this, when mine is due up in 2025, can't see there being another update before March 2025, so will probably try something else.
2 things that drive me mad about my M3 is the window wipers which i know is a common complaint, but the other , not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but over the last 6 months the self drive and cruise control has become VERY sensitive to other cars round me, will break if a car next to me is only slightly towards the line
Yeah I agree I don’t think there will be another change for many years. It’s certainly worth taking a look at the competition and I agree the wipers, lack of parking sensors and stalks are all a step in the wrong direction
Elon said that wipers will be fixed in a future update (apparently FSD beta users in the USA already have much better wipers). Same goes for autopilot/cruise control/auto park. Once FSD beta is done they'll update the other functionality. It's annoying but give it another 6-12 months. That's what Tesla has over other cars - it gets better over time!
The removal of stocks is fine except for turning indicators. At a minimum the indicators should be automatic if you're using navigation.
@@tsh4k I'm not sure it would be able to get the timing right on roundabouts even if it was automatic.
@@tsh4k thanks for the info.
Assuming this perhaps the “reason” no “Performance” edition yet...Tesla is taking feedback from all of testers that can improve spec on the Performance eventually... What do you say?...
Hey yes maybe, could be! Word on the street is there will be no software upgrade for the Model 3
Is everybody filming theirselfs with cars these days!? Jeez, its a never ending list of videos. Is telling stuff about a car that fun to do?
😂
Doing a channel about Tesla’s and not driving one would be weird 😂
Wow, that’s impressive camerawork.
Thank you!
No indicator stalk is utter madness and very dangerous.
thanks Paul 👍
Drove one in Hong Kong , very nice , suspension way better, but needs aftermarket stalks , big mistake for euro market
Yeah I agree, really noticeable! Closer to a Mercedes now
Do accessories like all weather mats fit from the old model or did dimensions change a lot?
I didn’t check that but it looked the same shape to me! Might be worth checking the 3W website
Great video Mark!
Thanks Gav!
How do you flash another car without a stalk…???
You have to press a button on the steering wheel now!
Seriously, I think that’s worse than indication by button..!
