But Shakespeare said it's a person's manners that truly show a person's class. And when he says "at night a candle's brighter than the sun," this is another Shakespeare quote that means when everyone around you is behaving or performing badly, it takes very little to do better. There's no light from the sun at night, so in that case even a single candle flame is bright.

Sting is largely responsible for bringing Branford Marsallis (brother of Wynton, trumpet player) the Sax player into prominence, he was already established but gained a wider audience. Sting has helped launch Trumpet player Chris Botti into stardom also. Sting is great friends with Shaggy also. Both Sting and Chris Botti are still touring and active in 2024! Check out his vast back catalogue from his days in The Police.

@@BklynreauYeah, this is a Sting solo single. Sting, as you know, was the lead singer and bass player in The Police, with guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland. The Police were formed in January 1977 and split in March 1984. They released 14 top 20 singles, of which 5 were number 1s. When the band split, Sting went on to a successful solo career, which started a year later in 1985.. This single was released in 1987, taken from his 2nd album at this point.

Hi! Great artist. He was a member of the band The Police back in the days and then went for a solo career. ❤
Albums "Bring on the Night" "Nothing Like the Sun" "Dream of the Blue Turtles" and "One Night in Paris" all have some jazz influences.
There is a documentary film "Bring on the Night" as well coving his first solo debut with the same album. It is a fantastic film for the music and some of the incites on his process.

This whole song is about the older Gentleman in the video, Quentin Crisp, who was an openly gay man in NY when it wasn't safe to be so. "Takes a Man to Suffer Ignorance and Smile, Be Yourself No Matter What They Say"!!! Yes Sir!!! And yes, Brandon Marsalis on the Soprano Saxophone is just sublime!
