Eastman should do a 12 fret dread with baked Adi or Alpine top and a few different flavors of back and sides. A slightly varnished age. 1-13/16 nut and 2-3/8 at the bridge. The people want it… or rather I do.
12 fret dread (and ooo) with baked addi top, some interesting back & sides, slotted headstock, and varnish. That'll be sick
Dang John giving us the chops on these bad boys!
I owned the E20SS/V and boy was is it absolutely unreal how they’ve engineered them to nail vintage quality with modern stability.
Sadly the used one I bought was stolen, gladly it’s back in the hands of its original owner again 💪🏼
Excellent review gentleman, excellent !!!
I'm looking to try the sappele version of the SS. I own the E1d and the OM1 and love them both, but I'm partial to 11/16 necks for a change sometimes.
Nice review. Thanks.
Love the honesty in your ratings. I really like the appearance of these guitars. Walnut is a beautiful wood. It also sounds great to my ears. I'd love to own one of those.
I like the OO Eastman guitar. The walnut is pretty and sounds good. I may get one in the near future.
I have the Gibson J-15 which is also spruce top with walnut back and sides. It has a really beautiful look and sound. Walnut is going to become more and more common.
I want that 00! Wow! Stigma of a lesser price? More bang for the buck = smart. Eastman can stand on their own. My Martin 0-18 is great and precious, this would be my keep out on stand in living room guitar. Great review thanks!!
I’ve played a walnut Mossman for 30 years and love it.
I can not wait to get my first Eastman when I save up. I'll make sure it's from you guys :) I'm in Indiana so I can make a trip someday.
Renos in Fishers carries Eastman and another spot in Muncie
@@dougdillman6643 Thank you for the info! I'll have to check it out when I visit Indy again in July. Do you know the extent of their inventory? I'd love to try a TC Dread and if they spread around more, a maple dread.
Wow what an amazing sounding guitar!!!
Interesting that they used plane sawn walnut instead of quarter-sawn. Wonder what the tone difference would be between the two
I'm a big fan of John's laugh with diamond inlay, which falls somewhere between the J45 and the D35 with some of the overtones of the walnut E22SS. Unrestrained - let 'er rip, John!
How do we know Jeremy's comment on the varnish isn't intentional? After all they are factory aged. I'm mixed on relicing what happens if you scratch it does it become too reliced?
Thanks John and Jeremy. Not sure which one would work for me. The SS seems to have a better bass. What say you, John?
When will you have the thermal cured TC version of the E20SS? I heard E models will be TC going forward.
Yesterday actually! We unboxed our first one here: czcams.com/users/liveQeTg3NDCofc . Also to answer, yes, Eastman is doing a full TC change over for their traditional "E" series.
The 00 sounds fantastic. Nice punch and really handsome.
It's awesome in person, definitely try one if you can!
Wallnut looks amazing on the back of a guitar.
Kind of like Bolivian rosewood or Pau fero. My Bluerridge br280 has super figured Bolivian rosewood wich isn.'t a rosewood but it looks and sounds fantastic .
Wish they would make a stick bridge, extra long saddle version of that e22slope shoulder. With short scale.
I give both guitars a 5/5! As for that E22SS/V-SB , I've heard several of them, in my opinion for the price you can't beat em! $1800 guitar punching in the $4000-$5000 sound quality range!
I agree. I have one and I think it’s unbelievably good
For being a Eastman dealer they were fair with everything they said. But that bright walnut sound / NO THANKs especially with a Brazilian rosewood price tag on it. Chinese worker’s must have started a Union. Might be a good deal now to start buying old rosewood guitars .
Ah! So Eastman have been experimenting with Eucalyptus for back and sides, so you can play and clear your sinus at the same time. I thank you!
Exactly 😂
129th subscriber LIKE at 20:38; 2,946th listen - would like to record with that 00 tone... would be nice to have one of those in the studio. :0/
In a few months I plan on picking up a solid top, likely Mahogany, guitar with laminated back and sides. I want to max my budget at $600.
Do you fellas know of an Eastman model that fits my general requirements?
Would love to have an Eastman...
Thanks gals and guys for your videos. The NAMM 23 videos were fabulous.
Eastman has All-Solid models priced at $579. Their E1 and E2 models are all at that price. E1 models have solid sitka spruce top with solid sapele back/sides. E2 models have solid cedar top with solid sapele b/s. I have an E2D and absolutely love it. Not sure if you mean mahogany top or mahogany back. Eastman doesn't make a mahogany top. But if you mean mahogany back and sides, you should take a hard look at the E1 and E2 models. Sapele is very similar to mahogany in tone. Usually has a bit more overtones and shimmer than hog. Or if you really want hog, look for a used E6D or E6D-TC and you'll get solid Sitka and solid mahogany. Reverb app is a great place to look.
Or you can spend around $350 for the Eastman PCH line which has a solid top and laminate b/s. But if your budget is up to $600, you would be wise to opt for the all solid models I mentioned. Much better sound quality than the laminate b/s.
If you buy sight unseen, I highly recommend The Acoustic Shoppe. They'll even do a virtual demo for you so you can hear how it sounds.
We agree with much of what you said! The best option would probably be to go with the E1D or E2D in that price range because they are all solid, & Eastman doesn't make anything in that price range with Mahogany, & specifically no mahogany tops in any of their lines. If you're budget is up to $600, the E1D is definitely the way to go. Also thanks for the recommendation!
I really like sapelle, walnut and ovangkol as tonewoods. I'd like to point out that a lot of high-end builders (like Lowden and Taylor and Gibson and others) use those woods for custom builds, or standard models.
I wish I could trade my e20d for the sunburst version of the e20d...or I'd really love a e40d sunburst ❤
I always see you guys using the same mics. What are they, if you don’t mind my asking?
Hi Andy, they are made by Ear Trumpet Labs. Edwina model I guess.
That is absolutely true!
Thank you both!
Walnut yeh it is also used to trim Mercedes ,Bentley and Rolls Royce interiors .
hmm several midprice sellers going to flat sawn walnut after Import crackdowns, Cort factory contracts? I have a Cedar/Mahogany Shecter I,m pretty sure came from there.
That's good old family not cutting to the chase
Is it better than an American made Martin 000 with an Adirondack top and rosewood back and sides for $200 less???
absolutely, those basic depression martins are really tinny and meh honestly. walnut is great though
Walnut is a great wood, for backs. Lowden use it and it not considered infererior. No cheap walnut guitars...
ive got a J 45 dWalnut...its a great sounding guitar. Walnut is OK.
Hi, is that the Studio model?
The inlays and pickguard are tacky looking…. Love the idea of a varnish finish. Will wait on one that looks classier.
The dread has a bright tone but seems to lack the low end punch of a Martin or Collings dread.
Yeah, and it isnt maple either, which to me has a nice dullness to it even though it has treble. Maybe if all the old tunes were played on walnut guitars i would like it, but im too old and set in my ways to be different.
Who cares
Liz can set that up for you
It's a Gibson J15
The killer for me is when manufactures do that worn look, hate it. If I’m buying a new guitar I want to wear it in myself.
That's fair!
@@AcousticShoppe That being said is there a model like that one without that?
@@alinchitown7556 There is not one with walnut Back and Sides, that isn't in their reliced varnish finish.
@@AcousticShoppe What I'm imtrested in is if they make one with the sloted headstock
@@alinchitown7556 Typically eastman does not do a slotted headstock on their dreadnought shapes, but they do on their parlor & OO body shapes.
Beautiful guitars, tone not so great on the dred. OO model sounds better INOP
From a distance it looks like a J-45.
Nope.
The guy on the right cant say 3 words without being interrupted and it's getting old
