They formed around '85 and had a EP called Live like a Suicide but their real debut began in '87 with Appetite for Destruction (FWIW, they re-released that EP later on with new material for another EP called Lies). Appetite is one of the top metal albums of all time IMO. As far as lineup goes.... originally Axl Rose on vocals, Slash on guitar, Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar, Duff McKagan on Bass, and Steven Adler on drums. By the time their next albums arrive, the Use Your Illusion double albums, Izzy and Steven were gone replaced by Matt Sorum (drums) and Gilby Clarke( guitar)..and I believe they added Dizzy Reed as like a keyboardist. They did one more album with that line up called The Spaghetti Incident (an album of cover songs). The band had a bitter break up and the next GNR album was called Chinese Democracy with only Axl Rose left from the original line up. I couldn't tell you who was in the band at that time. Matt, Duff, and Slash formed Velvet Revolver with front man Scott Weiland formerly of Stone Temple Pilots fame. That band is great. They sort of reunited in the last few years. Adler drums part time now because of his recovering drug addiction(s). Izzy is still out though. As far as that AC/DC thing goes, Axl did sub for Brian Johnson. It wasn't a permanent gig.

Axl is from the Midwest (Indiana) and moved to LA. Paradise City for him is small town life and getting back to simpler things. LA was the opposite where things were a “jungle” Every body is fighting for fame “rags to riches or so they say, ya gotta keep pushin for the fortune and fame” the city is polluted “strapped in the chair of the city’s gas chamber, why I’m here I can’t quite remember” them the line about Captain America is about wanting to get back to the simpler times versus the circus that is LA -“Now he’s a court jester with a broken heart he said ‘turn me around and take me back to the start”’ the album this song is on is called Appetite for Destruction and takes you through their journey of discovering Hollywood. Excellent listen from beginning to end.

Omg me too. I’m 45 and when these questions are asked I feel like I should be in a rolling chair. Anytime they performed in California my cousins took me. My walls were plastered with Guns N Roses. But it started getting to the point where Axl would get mad at audience and walk off stage and riots broke out and it got to scary for my parents, cousins etc therefore we stopped going to their concerts. On the tickets it would say it start around 9pm but it would start more like at 12am because Axl wouldn’t go out unless he was ready to go on. And if Axl didn’t walk off stage because audience would throw shit on stage we’d be there till like 2-3am then by the time we made it out the arena and the parking lot we’d be getting home around 4-5am that’s if we didn’t stop at Denny’s or Waffle House for food. There was times I had to go straight to school for dance practice/performance or kickboxing tournament. But it was so so worth it.
P.S. I was young so no sleep didn’t bother me and it made me feel older than 12yo.

To answer your question of “where are they talking about?” I want to say Los Angeles is what they’re talking about “Paradise City” where dreams can come true, pretty girls, beautiful scenery. Guns and Roses were friends and portions of different bands LA Guns and Hollywood Rose, getting together to form this group. Between 1987 and 1991 they were the biggest rock band in the world. Which back then also equaled the overall biggest band in the world. Their debut album sold 28 million records in the U.S. alone (which is a Guinness world record) and maybe another 40 million in the rest of the world. When most successful bands sold half a million record copies. It's the equivalent of a billion views on CZcams. But then Nirvana came and eclipsed them in 91.

The guitarist in the top hat is Saul Hudson also know as Slash. Paradise City was written in the back of a van while coming back from a gig. Rose said it refers to going home (Midwest) from the jungle (Los Angeles). First time I heard them was 1988. Sweet Child O Mine was being played on MTV. Never heard a bad GNR song. Just wish they would have stayed together and made more albums. Been a great ride!

This video is from 1988 filmed at giants football stadium. GNR were the biggest band in the world at the time as you can see the 50,000 people packed in there to see them. They had a few more successful albums before splitting up in 1996. They recently reunited in 2016 and are currently touring and writing music for a new album. In 2016 Axl Rose did go sing for AC/DC only because Brian Johnson was ill and couldn’t finish out their sold out tour. Axl filled in like a champ and got the band through their tour as his voice suited their music perfectly. The guy in the top hat 🎩 with the curls is Slash in my mind the greatest guitarist ever and the reason I play guitar today. When I first saw the video for Sweet Child O Mine I was 15 and was blown away by Slashes playing I got a guitar and learned all their songs. Hope this gives you guys some insight on their legacy and why they are still considered one of the best bands of all time.

they first started making music together in 1985-86 and then in 1987 they released appetite for destruction which to this day is their most popular album. The most hits.
Axl never went to ACDC idk who told you that but that never happened. He played a few shows with them when Brian wasnt able to perform recently, but other than that, no. There has never been another ACDC vocalist since Bon Scott other than Brian.
The past few years axl has reunited with Slash and Duff(OG bassist) and they've been doing live shows. They had a falling out in the 90s where Axl was the only remaining member of GnR. They did some shows with new members including Buckethead(one of the best guitar players of all time) but then they started talking again. I just saw them recently with almost the entire original lineup. I would assume a new album will come within the next year or two. If not it will be strictly live performances.

Appetite for Destruction was actually first released in 86 but peeps weren't ready for it outside of L.A. Then it was rereleased in 88 and MTV played welcome to the jungle on a Sunday night late late at night and it just exploded after that airing and the rest is as they say rock n roll history

My second concert at the Orange Bowl. Guns N Rose's opened up for Aerosmith back in 1987. I was 12 years old. Then a year later opening for Rolling Stones, again at the Orange Bowl. The next time I saw them was Dec 31 New Year's Eve at the then almost new Joe Robbie Stadium. Axel seed during the concert that we are going to make the show a little bit longer than planned. Can you say 2 hours more. We ended up getting a good and happy Axel that day. Paradise City is about is hometown of Lafayette, Indiana. Axle Rose originally started a band called Hollywood Rose. With Tracie Gunns from LA Guns. First the drummer Steven Adler was kicked out for having a big drug problem. Then guitarist Izzy Stradlin left around 1990. The guitarist Gilby Clark and drummer Matt Surum came. Then after Rock in Rio 1994 the band started to break up. Slash first did Slash's Snake Pit. Axel shows up at MTV with a hole other group calling them Guns N Rose's. Slash, Matt, and Duff get together with Scott Weiland to form Velvet Revolver. They break up after 2 albums. GnR gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Everyone is there except Axel. And somehow GnR reunited. Just Axel, Slash, and Duff. But Izzy, Gilby, and Steven have popped up at some concerns doing a song or 2 with them. I seen this new GnR 2x at Orlando 2016 and Miami 2017. Ah, good times. Also, GnR was in the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry movie called The Dead Pool. The movie starts a young Jim Carry playing a musician with a drug problem. He lip syncs the song Welcome to the Jungle. The movie also has a young Liam Nielsen. GnR comes out twice in the movie.

Axl filled in for AC/DC to finish their tour. He can not be kicked out, he owns Guns and Roses. They did break up, and were quoted when asked about getting back together, "not in this Lifetime". Over the last 4 years they got back together for a tour named "not in this Lifetime", and its one of the biggest tours of all time, making over 5 million a gig as a band. Also in true Rock and Roll bad ass frontman form AXL, refused to show up and preform when they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin & Steven Adler were the original band.
Steven was fired in 1990, Izzy left in ‘92, Slash left in ‘96 & Duff left in ‘97.
Axl had entire new band, with different members at different times between ‘97-2015.
Slash & Duff rejoined in 2016, so with Axl they have 3 original members back along with Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus & Melissa Reed.
Axl joined AC/DC on the last 2 legs of their 2016 tour, but didn’t leave GN’R.

First of all, there isn't a way anyone can describe Guns N Roses, because that would be like trying to describe the Mona Lisa. They were truly a band out of their time, and a band like non other. As soon as Appetite For Destruction came out, 1987, Guns had the whole world in the palm of their hand without even realizing it. Truthfully, no one has ever come close to Guns, and no one ever will in my opinion. The very definition of paradise, is what the guitar riff you here in your mind when your bored in school, or when your in the car and hear the very first note of the song. And yet a voice of Skin and Bones starts peaking it's way out and all of the sudden you got the endless energy of Axl Rose coursing through your veins! Or when your just going through those moods when your alone, and you just need a song that takes you back to "yesterday" there's always sweet Patience, or November Rain, So Fine, and Rocket Queen. There's a soul in every song and every word, and I'll be willing to best if it's Guns N Roses, it must be heard🤘🔫🌹!!!!

From Google "What city is guns and roses paradise city about": Much like "Welcome To The Jungle," this was inspired by Los Angeles, where the band was living. The verses deal with the rough life on the streets, but the chorus was based on Axl Rose's memories of the Midwest, with images of green grass, innocence and possibility.
