Wife: “Are you drinking whiskey again??!!”
Husband: “Its an agricultural product made by some really nice people.”
Hahaha, too damn funny
Nice 👍
🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Did this reply actually work? Asking for a friend.
That will be 15.95 please
not in la....I BET ITS 19 BUCKS HERE.
Come to Napa Ang get it for $20.00 true story....
Was charged 15 the other day for an old fashioned that wasn’t stirred and I don’t think they added sugar 🤦♂️
I pay like $7 for an old fashioned here lol
Just to be clear you are not supposed to get drunk, for that go to 7 eleven and buy 6 four Lokos for the same price, hate when people doesn’t understand the culture of drinking and eating
The perfect old fashioned is the way I make it at home, just the way I like it.
I wasn't sure what a cocktail snob was...so I just read the comments section.
They manage to ruin it don't they?
So many people must be perfect.
This is a good bartender making a good old-fashioned.
His explanation about stirring it to shy of being perfect so it rides a bell curve was quite profound. The Old Fashioned is not just another drink it's an experience
Yes it is.
Most things in life can be done so that they're an experience. Or they can be done just to get done. Our choice, really.
Gave myself an old fashioned today
VC LFC sounds like a dry wank
😂😂😂😂
@@SkinnyLegend1800 bruh I was going to say the same thing hahaha
I almost spit out my whiskey reading that comment. Well done.
That’s….Master fashion !
I've watched this same guy now make an old fashioned 3 times... and every time he has made it differently. What the serious fuck.
JcSH2o there no right or wrong way just they way you enjoy it best. Most cocktails have one more two different ways depends on personal preference
Plot Twist: this commenter was literally watching the same video 3 times and saw different things each time
This works too. The way I do it is like 1 bar spoon of Demarara simple syrup, Orange Peel, 2.5oz Bourbon, 2 dashes bitters. Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, stir, strain onto a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with orange peel.
Thanks! I loved the details on the history and how the ingredients work together to affect the flavour.
The drink of drinks! I love how there are so many different variations of this classic cocktail (I offered 6 at a party this past weekend) but you can always come back to the root and it is just perfect!
Thank you Sir. It looks excellent.
Gotta love the "spirited debate" going on in these comments. The Old Fashioned is not rocket science, and arguing over minutiae is pointless when dealing with organic products. Whiskeys vary from batch to batch, so does sugar, and citrus, and bitters. You have to know how to build and balance a drink with the ingredients that you have on hand. In my opinion, the two main things that make my fave OF are using a good rye (not bourbon) and stirring and straining over ice. Other than that, just try to enjoy this basic cocktail. If you can't find joy in sipping an OF without resorting to petty insults over the minor details, you should step up to something a little stiffer, like a nice calming opioid.
O
Agreed....but WRT the opioids, be careful with those things. That shit’ll kill ya.
Well that escalated quickly...
What are Errrbz?
What rye do you like?
I thought an Old Fashioned was just putting the bottle to your lips.
Josh Taylor that’s the „very Old Fashioned“
i think thats called the OG
lmao
Happy 200 Day !
Lol
Very well done! Very simple yet elegant, good job guys!
Plenty of cocktail vids but yours are probably my favourite. Traditionally I have always been a straight scotch drinker but now I love bourbon in cocktails such as Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sour, Manhattan etc
Hello from Houston, TX this is such a popular drink!! thank you for the great tips on how to make it.
Hell yeah! Never knew about the sweet spot, love the detail in this video!
Great detailed video, thank you
I like it with 3-4 dashes of the aromatic bitter but also a couple of dashes of orange bitters. Then rim the glass with the orange peel. My favorite whiskey cocktail and a great way to introduce people to whiskey who say they don’t care for it.
LOVE the "Kind of Blue" in the background
Great explanation and really nicely done!
Super educational and awesome, thank you guys!
thx...good teacher. 😊
Bryan Brown as Doug Coghlin in the movie Cocktail said it best..."The bartender is the aristocrat of the working class". Good information and great presentation. Well done good man.
500 bottles of whiskey on the wall 500 bottles of whiskey. Take one down and pass it around. I'm drunk lol 499 bottles of whiskey on the wall.
funny shit bro
Lotta time on your hands i see sir lol
You son of a bitch. Now I can’t stop singing it.
499 bottles of whiskey on the wall...
@@boxbuildr Suddenly, I feel like I'm back in grade school on a bus full of kids singing that damn song. 😉
I'm a newbie, having just moved to Kentucky 4 years ago, but my favorite old fashioned bourbon is Russell's 10 year. Thanks for validating my taste.
I've modified the Old Fashioned cocktail on occasion with a bar spoon of candied orange peel syrup instead of the sugar cube and it was a nice changeup.
Excellent!
Great video. Cool GM, and a solid recipe. I dig the vibe.
that is one great sounding Old Fashioned. Plus Russel Reserve 10 yr small batch. Great spirit for any drink. Cool that you have gotten to hang with the legend and consider him a friend. thanks for a great explanation and a drink I would love to try. cheers.
I believe all cocktails reach the “sweet spot” when you finish the glass, if ya know what I mean.
Clever.
This is excellent!
Try a dash of Black Walnut Bitters added in with the aromatic bitters. It adds a whole new dimension of flavors that goes great with an Old Fashioned.
great video, what´s that wonderful music btw !? cheers !!
This must be the best "classic old fashioned" video on CZcams!
jibeneyto nope. look up "the bonneville".
That Laphroaig Cairdeas 2013 with the purple label back there is one of the finest scotches I've ever had. It's extremely hard to find now. I knew this video was a few years old as soon as I saw that bottle!
7 Grand! Miss that spot!
sounds like Ben Shapiro
Blue Eyes White Privilege cocktails don't care about your feelings
I was just thinking the EXACT same thing. It's like listening to his lectures at 50% speed.
Witf is white privilege?
was thinking the same exact thing lmao
ahahahhhahahah
Great to see a professional at work. Smooth production quality video!
I've had an old fashion from there. It was good.
In the 1960 Oscar winning movie "The Apartment" (produced, directed & co-written by Billy Wilder), a doctor (played by Jack Kruschen) tells his neighbor (played by Jack Lemmon) that he should be a 'mensch", and goes on to explain that it means "be a human being". And thanks for this "Old Fashioned" recipe ! VERY interesting, entertaining & informative ! THANKS for sharing ! CHEERS !! :-)
very few bars here in Copenhagen know how to make this, my fav cocktail
which is weird as both whiskey and bitters are very popular here
Thanks for sharing, where do I purchase the bitter?
I probably have 3-5 a week. My go-to cocktail. Always trying for the perfect mixture.
Can you use the same orange on multiple cocktails? Just wondered whether the orange turns bad if you let it be for multiple days without it's peel.
Great video
Nicely done, I concur.
Gotta love a bar that stocks Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Octomore!
Amazing guys 👌
I've had mine pretty similar but the interesting part with the old fashioned I had they actually torched the orange peel with a torch lighter it brought out the orange citrus flavors. I thought it was a cool twist to a classic drink
I see that Cairdeas 2013 in the background..... I see you.
I like the citrus oils lit with the flame!
He sold me I was a fan before signed Don Draper
bitukukuasukgremany3 I was thinking about him too. I didn’t know what was going on when he made that thing.
I muddle an orange slice and some Italian cherries (not day glo, the fancier kind that comes in syrup) with the sugar and bitters.
seriusly??? this is absolut wrong!
Thank goodness the guest spoke
I see that Bruichladdich on the shelf behind him. Great scotch, love it
Did you see the Octomore? LOL! :)
There are so many different variations of how people make these. I muddle cherrys and oranges with the sugar cube
nothing beats a sugar cube because it adds layers to the drink, it gets sweeter towards the end also give you some textures, syrup does the job, but nothing beats an old fashioned with a sugar cube
I like one small orange piece in the brown sugar when muddling, I think the orange pairs very well with a sweeter bourbon
I LOVE old fashioned such a great classic! I muddle the cherry with a half a teaspoon of the juice along with the sugar cube and it gives it a very nice hint of sweetness... I found that extra splash of cherry juice is definitely popular with more of my female bar patrons cuz it adds more sweetness. I like how you say people like different amounts of bitters because the truth is everyone does have different palates and I have a hard time drinking whiskey so I like it more sweet. :) And its def a drink for everyone not just old timers :) GREAT VID!
“Ahhh that’s ah nice old fashioned, haven’t had one in awhile”
Great drink
Felt like an economic class in college. The good old bell curve.
Wonderful video
Thanks for the visit
This guy has got it dead on. An Old Fashioned isn't perfect.....it becomes perfect!
Classic....gotta make me one now
That's what I'm talking about. No cherries or muddled orange. Thank you! The perfect old fashioned.
Muddled with a wooden spoon handle.
I love whiskey, however I have mixed feelings as to drinking it in cocktails. Where lays my conflict?? That those whiskey based cocktails are delicious AF!!
I told my brother I was going to make an Old Fashioned for myself and if he would like one. His response: Old Fashioned _what_ :D
I use a teaspoon of simple syrup or agauve syrup in mine. Works great.
Try substituting Gomme syrup for the sugar; very smooth taste.
awesome
YES!!!
The way I first learned how to make an old fashioned was not actually with a sugar cube, but with maple syrup. About a barspoon or two. Every single person I've made it for has said it was perfect
Thanks so much for this video...one of my fav. drinks...but I haven't found a good recipe...I'll give it a shot (pun intended)
3 - 4 dashes bitters
I use demerara simple syrup which just instead of using a cube use a 1:1 ratio of demerara sugar with hot water and make a syrup
Add .5 oz of the simple syrup
1 oz of whiskey ( bourbon preferred )
Add ice cube ( one large one )
Add another .5 oz of whiskey
Couple turns to get that ice to the sweet spot
Definitely express the lemon and orange peel over the top and voila , old fashioned
Pretty good.but those orange and lemon peels are alittle on the large size. Don't want to be working around them to take a sip. Downsize those and you have the perfect old fashioned. Good vid.
I want to know more about that tie bar than anything haha. Hugo boss black tie bar?
And why is it clipped on so high?
this is the way i like my old fashioned's. just whiskey bitters and sugar, no club soda nothing fancy.
Speaking of the citrus oils in orange peels. If you squeeze an orange peel at an open flame it’ll shoot little flames.
I enjoy adding a cherry, though I don't know how authentic that is. The lemon is weird though...
The lemon is metro.....
I've seen a lot of people say "orange with bourbon, lemon with rye". I say "do what you like"
Bourbon is sweet; Rye makes it taste much better and is true old fashioned!
I use maple syrup and orange bitters. If you use Crown Royal you can call it a Canadian Old Fashioned.
Take out the lemon peel and this is very close to perfection. Shake and then serve without the ice to stop further diluting and you're golden.
Nice👊🥂
Guy sounds like Ben Shapiro telling me about whiskey...
Man I was thinking the same thing!.
Went to 5 stores before finding sugar cubes. Dang!
What's going on with his shirt
Randy got an old fashion in south park. Crème fraise episode, mmmkay
JFC, my mouth was watering as he was making that
When this placed first opened, they used Maker's Mark as their well.
@Flatus Antiquitous To each their own my friend. All I know is to make sure to always have large and clean ice cubes when you make your old fashioned cocktail. The whiskey you choose is your preference.
Master Distiller "Jimmy Rustle" Holy shit im dead
Best old fashioned!
Can’t believe no one else heard “the lick” at 3:19 XD
Dude, nice catch haha
Isn't that the drink that Thurston Howell the Third liked to make on board his plane in the movie - "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"...???
When interviewing a new bartender for possible hire, I always use the Old-Fashioned as my practical exam.
Ever since I started using Raw Honey in my Old Fashioned I never used sugar again. So many ways to create dynamic sweetness with the different types of honey.
Agave syrup works really nicely as well.
@@jasonwolfe1305 Light agave and bonded Rye have taken over as my go to. You're 100% correct. Plus, no refrigeration, easy dilution and low glycemic index. Win win win.
I've never found whiskey to be intimidating.
But I have lost some fights against Rye.

No lemon, one less giant ice cube.
I might have missed it, but is that a specific kind of sugar that's used in this video?
You ever thought of rewinding the video or watching it again.. Or even paying attention. This is knowledge and tips from a great bartender. Disrespectful on many levels. Figure it out dude..
