I would generally say singers shouldn't attempt this song. It was such a seminal raw expression by D'Angelo. Career defining. Many people can sing, and they can hit the notes, but often, covers add little value to music overall. It's much like a parrot impersonating speech; it doesn't know what it's saying, it's not meaningful. But this cover, the instrumentals, the interpretation and Giveon making it his own own is an addition to the conversation. Well done.
