Ricks has a clear great thumping sound other words the pickups on the Rickenbacker is just like Bose speakers and Bose speakers are the very best yeah there are other speakers to sound good however none of those speakers sound like a Bose
For me the sound of the Rick bass is the best! It sounds organic and natural not machine like the Fenders. When I hear Paul McCartney and Maurice Gibb's bass I am like in another place. Thanks for the love, man.
Hey Johnny, got a question. I've watched you play all kinds of basses and you've even played basses l didn't really think much of and you've made them sound fantastic!! I like to know, of all the basses you've played, which one is your absolute go- to, favorite bass? And if you haven't already made a video about it, would you and explain why? Keep doing what you do. You're funny, nutty, but most important to me, a down to earth, person! Much love - MIKE SCHENCK
I'm Japanese so I can't understand some of what you say. And this sentence will be somewhat wrong. I'm sorry. BUT, I can understand "You love Rickenbacker." I respect you. I respect your LOVE. Please keep doing a good job forever. May the love of you and Rickenbacker last forever. Thank you for reading.
By far the best Rickenbacker demo I've seen. Anyone that claims Ricks aren't an ideal funk bass; the Rick will fill any genre, just depends on who's hands it's in. Proof once and for all a Rickenbacker is just as worthy a funk machine as is a Jazz bass.
Agreed. I’ve owned a few Ric’s and I have yet to find a situation they can’t handle. The newer ones are especially versatile with the vintage tone selector pot. The naysayers obviously haven’t spent much time with them. In stereo you get the “one trick pony” Geddy, Squire, Lemmy thing that the haters talk about. In mono you can EQ it to get just about any sound besides the Jaco thing. Great slap, great finger style, even a great Motown sound with the mute engaged. Absolutely love the things.
This video just cured me from my depression. Apparently great tone and good funk cancels out bad emotional funk. It also helps that this man is like the embodiment of pure joy. He's like a Mister Roger's that's full of positive vibes and can thump out the sweetest sounds. Thank you Mister Long ❤✌🎵🎶
Damn, man. You played the F*** out of that thing. You must be a gas to see live. I wish you all the success and great music you can make surrounded by people you love to share a stage or studio with. Eleven stars on a scale of 10!!
Johnny, you are a true treasure to humanity a real joy you bring to the world and just one of my favorite, all-time musicians. Absolutely amazing always smiling and a lesson to us all. Jim Chicago 🙏🏻
I've been playing since 1969 my friend. I've got a 75 4001 that I bought new off the shelf, and a 2010, also bought new. I haven't kissed mine but I love them. Now , on to you my man. You really need to go to the emergency room , cause YOU RIPPED on that Ric
I'm a year and 4 months into my bass journey and I love it, you inspire me to become a better player! Love to see someone who treats their instruments with so much passion!
Haha same here man he was being silly for the first few minutes there that I just knew he was going to rock that Bass and I was pleasantly surprised candy to my ears
Johnny L, you got the jazz brother like I've never seen. I've always believed with all my heart that one just doesn't play the instrument, one makes love to it! The more you make love to your instrument, the better she'll make you sound! You got that, brother!
I’ve been a guitar player for over 25 years. A week ago I bought a fender p bass guitar and I can relate to this guy’s happiness. Playing bass is pure joy, so much much it makes me so happy. I’m nothing but smiles and excitement when I play my bass. This guy make me want a rickenbacker bass now 😆. Good player!
Rickenbackers are the sweetest sounding basses, no contest. I use Rick-o-sound on mine in my rock band and there is nothing like standing on a stage with that awesome sound washing over and around you, your pant legs flapping in the wind in front of your amp.
You sir are the best of us! You and your Rick fit eachother great, you have such a great energy, and the thump sounds amazing! Much love, keep on thumpin man!
Johnny Long, I want to thank you not only for the sweet and varied, versatile, "you-name-it-the-Rick-will-do-it" jam, but also the thorough tutorial on how to coax every tone I could want and crave using all the available options and settings on this surprisingly versatile Dream Machine. I already suspected that the dual-circuit, dual-capacitor 4003 was the exact bass I should get when I reach the point where my budget will allow me to make the leap; your demo and tutorial CONFIRMS it, sealing the deal for me! I recently played a 4003 through an Ampeg SVT-4 PRO... that combination gave me EVERYTHING tonally; I couldn't believe my ears! Played with all the bittons and switches on the amp head; the tonal versatility of that amp was just UNBELIEVABLE. (I was smiling a 360° smile!!!) Even got me into "Fender territory" tonally... richer bottom than I thought possible from a Ric! And the neck was SOOOOO comfortable (my hands are not very big, just average, so I struggle with a "Precision" neck). The neck on the Ric is JUST RIGHT for ol' Glenn! The sound and feel are pure JOY to me, so I can relate well to your love for The Lady! (Mine will be blue.)
Great review Johnny. I got my Rici back in December (new). Still trying to figure out my tone, this helps a lot. And you are so funny. I love my Rici so much too. I could be wearing sweatshorts and a tattered Orange t-shirt and when I hang my Rici on my shoulder I'm instantly wearing a tuxedo.
Fun Fact: The Harmonics at the 5th fret don't work when using only the neck pickup... That pickup is sitting on a harmonic node... Go ahead, check it out for yourself!! ...and, you have great taste in basses! I love your spirit! :)
we all know how distracting a neck pickup would be if you slap a rick but this guys pulls it out with ease like it's not getting in the way of his hand
This guy got enough energy to power nuclear plant.
This is somehow the last place I would’ve expected to see you
You saying he's made of plutonium?

Even for the most heaviest sounds look at Lemmy from Motörhead
The only reviewer of the Rick that can actually play
I think it’s not that it’s bad for funk but that it’s just so well suited for rock. I used to feel the same way about by Schecter Diamond Series.
@@rogypop it’s such a stereotype lol even Scott Pilgrim plays one while all his bandmates are on shitty equipment

Johnny is dressed like the bass, I don’t know if he planned this or if it’s just a coincidence but either way it’s cool
I just realized that Lmao
This guy plays this with such fluently, respect, pride, and appreciation. Even if he couldn’t play well, he’d still love playing it. Great sound!!!!
I can just SEE the aura of positivity around him and his bass
Videos like his can put a smile on ANYONE'S face
Best bass review ever.
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow thank u
Yeah!
This guy is magnificent! He seems like such an awesome guy. And the way he plays that bass is so cool!

Not the F***, he played the FUNK out of that bass... Great player, indeed!
Now wish that for me, please.😀
This is the best demo I've ever seen on CZcams. It put me in a good mood!
I'm amazed at how every note comes through so cleanly - oh Johnny, you're a PLAYER! I think a lot of it is just your technique - flipping incredible!!
I love this guy. One of the best demo’s of the Rick, that I have seen, plus this guy is a joy to watch!!!
Loving the enthusiasm this guy has!
Me, too... Pure joy!
Hahaha... SUPER !!! Even his clothes are perfectly matched to the finish of the bass.
Johnny Long: killer bassplayer, bro !!!

Not only are you a fine presenter but you are a great bassist. I am amazed at the way you hit those harmonics !

BOOTSY! I was taken to Funky Town and back. Great playing DUDE.
I think he loves Rickenbacker
I just kissed a bass three times, then found this clip immediately out of the blue - cosmic! Great stuff Johnny!
When you start playing my face automatically smile, i don't know, maybe i can feel your positive energy . You so damn funky groovy
Rick James was an incredible musician/singer he recorded amazing records and for me the best of them all is the incredible GLOW !
Eat your heart out P-bass, this Rick blows Fender out of the water in funkyness.
Fernando II de Taboada this sounds more like a pbass or a jazz bass
It really does ur so Right how ever Dude s very Sloppy Yuck .
@@dahrincook2110 i would argue enjoyment trumps technical proficiency any time.
dude you are a cool player and reviewer 👍

I love how much you love your instruments. Every single one you show us and get us all excited about it. Love that.
Absolutely LOVE this dude! GREAT player, knows his stuff and is very entertaining!!!!
There are many critics of Rickenbackers who say that you can't slap a Ric. .
first time i see slap and finger pick a rick. i'm no joking. sounds great.
Well, he just DID... and it sounds RIGHTEOUS! Yum!
@Gary Nahpi try kissing to make up
Cordell"Boogie"Mosson played one.
I have a Ric. When I play it,,I try to beat the paint off if it when I Fungk!!

Nobody should be this happy :) :) I love Jonny's playing...enthusiasm...his whole outlook.
First vid I have ever seen of yours. Hands down I love the way you do what you do and keep on doing it! My man!!!

Great energy, great video... Maybe nexttime try a hofner violin
They always say that the Rick is not a slap bass, but what the heck of a slap bass is that? Love it..
This is the most entertaining instrument demo/review I've ever seen. And I love Rickenbackers too!

This is amazing for real. Super good sound and attitude from this gentlemen
Love that Ricky sound, edgy with bottom.

I love that sound
You da man with the slapo-rick sound
