  • Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around, which includes dozens of projects to improve public transit in LA County. Currently in planning stages, the C Line (Green) Extension to Torrance is proposed to extend light rail service to connect more of the South Bay. This project is beginning the environmental review process to study two alternatives, or potential routes. Provide your comments to inform future study during the scoping period, January 29 to March 29, 2021. Connect to the project at www.metro.net/clineext

    Also, metro doesn't talk about the most important part of these stations....ZONING
    Its not enough to build these stations. You need to build walkable and bikeable towns around these stations. There is enough Land in Torrance to achieve it.
    It should be about getting into your car to drive to these stations. These stations should be places that people are living at. And they should be highly dense with very little need for cars.

      @theexmann Před 3 lety +10

      Metro has been encouraging development along their transit corridors though I'm not sure what Metro has authority over vs the local cities when it comes to zoning issues. That might be more up to the local city governments.

    This is the wrong end of the C/Green Line to extend. A glaring oversight ever since it was built, the C/Green Line needs to meet Metrolink at the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs station. A one station extension to the east to connect to Metrolink is much more important than this.

      I think the plan is eventually to San Pedro following old ROW train tracks. I could also see it connecting at one point to the Blue Line in Long Beach, but anything having to do with Orange County probably won't happen. Today, Metro already owns the Rail ROW through Lawndale currently used by freight trains. There are children crossing the Rail ROW to elementary school. There is loud freight train noise and automobile gate waits, when freight trains pass.
    I hope the existing Metro Rail ROW option is chosen, concurrent with solicitation of more Federal Transit funds to tunnel Metro's Rail ROW from 162nd Street to near Artesia Blvd. A linear park for Lawndale should be built over the Rail ROW so that kids can safely cross and play atop the Rail ROW. This approach brings more benefits and lowers impacts to Lawndale, Redondo Beach and Torrance than tearing up Hawthorne Blvd again.
    I don't know whether the freight trains would require a 3rd track in the ROW or if freight trains should re-route to different ROW. But since Metro owns this particular ROW, the priority should be Metro Rail. Let freight train companies pony up more funds if they want a Shared-Use ROW solution.

      @theexmann Před 3 lety +5

      Yes, we all know. The issue is funding. Grade separating every intersection increases the cost tremendously. I'd rather they focus on building miles of track than grade separate everything. Better to build more miles of track first and then go back and grade separate if needed. They can also implement signal prioritization for the light rail trains. That can help with speed.

      @@capuiakidyt7572 The biggest advantage of light rail is cost per mile, but it is slower than subways because they have to compete with car traffic.
