  • So many great antiques and vintage items reside in retirement homes! We’re holding a private appraisal fair at Fountains of Saint Petersburg, Florida, where people are bringing the treasures they’ve kept a lifetime to have evaluated and valued. What will prove to be the thing to have kept?
    Pretty and practical pottery? Family photos and keepsakes? We see all these and plenty more in this appraisal square, where stylish and sculptures of glass, metal and stone and a stunning stained glass lamp came to their present owners for bargain bids, thrift store prices…or even for free! Some of these now sell for thousands, and we talk about the values of each today.
    Behind these collectors’ personal stories, each item also tells the story of its origins. We so enjoy bringing these stories to life, and getting to go beyond mere retail value to discuss sentimental value is part of the joy of watching appraisal fair footage! We look forward to you enjoying this private event along with us.

    Good evening, George! Love the appraisal fairs! The blue European enameled vase is really pretty. It definitely looks Czech to me. Loved the Voltaire bronze! I'd like to have seen the maiden that goes with it. I really liked the spelter boy statue, too. Loved the Nippon vase with the sailboat on it. There's no room here for anything else, but I'd make a place to put that one. The Chinese stone carving was super-interesting. I'd like to have that Weller Kingfisher pitcher. She got a steal on the Lalique sculpture! I really like Waterford crystal, especially the "Lismore" pattern. I would probably faint, if I got that lamp for free!!! 🥴😂 The appraisal fairs are always a lot of fun!!! Thanks for allowing us to be a part of it!!!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Před rokem +2

      I'm glad you concur about Bohemian on those pieces, the level of enameling seemed too heavy for English to me. The Voltaire was excellent and I hope they bring the maiden next year. Everyone responded really well to the Nippon vase, even people who don't usually care about porcelain liked it! Weller Kingfisher is perhaps my favorite of their patterns...Funny how I remembered that Lalique piece, it caught my eye when new 30 years ago and now I want to find one for $300! Thank you so much for being a part of it, I'm glad the people at the retirement home are willing to let me film

    I had that pattern of stainless by Jensen and I ended up parting it out and getting thousands of dollars. I don’t know how many pieces were in the set that the person had, but each piece of that flatware, at least for me, was selling for anywhere between 50 and $100.
    I based my prices on replacements, and the pattern is called blue shark. I can’t remember, but I got close to the same price as their website because they didn’t have hardly any of the pieces at the time. I think I sold my last piece of this set about two years ago.
    Most people would probably have sold it for much less and sold it quicker but I didn’t mind holding onto it because it’s pretty rare. It definitely paid off in the long run.

    Thank you George very fun & informative. In regard to suicidal artists, 2 pieces of original art that I found, when I got them home to research I discovered that both artists had took their own lives. It made me sad & kinda lessened the appeal of the pieces. I’d like to think that the artists spirits are happy when they do their work.

    The story about yellow in china is not quite right. It only applied to clothing, while many pieces of porcelain were decorated in yellow for the upperclass families. Porcelain for the imperial family was only made at the imperial kilns. The Buddha figure is very sort after & worth $500 to $600.

  • @persiphonehellecat
