    Hope all my regulars realize I have to make silly titles so people actually click on the videos... I am trying really hard to get the info out there, but when I make an intelligent sounding title the videos get hidden and no one sees them...

      I definitely understand. I didn't even read the title, just clicked on a new Kikopup video. So maybe many other regulars won't even notice..😏

      If it helps more people have happier families with their animals. It can only be a good thing IMHO!

      Don’t apologize! You utilize a platform that reinforces and requires it. Some of the most informative, professional, and high level creators on CZcams use the same practice.
      Your content is the best on CZcams - and that’s a fact!

    I love this. The number 1 priority when I get my pup is to make sure he will be calm around my old dog, since she isn’t the biggest fan of puppies ;)

    Nice. This is one of the only FF CZcams channels I can go to without feeling judged for being a balanced trainer who wants to learn.

    This is exactly what my adult rescue dog does. It’s like he never got past this puppy phase. Nice video. I am hoping I can use some of these techniques to help him.

      this will take time, you could work on settles on beds in the livign room then do walks together on leash to get used to moving a bunch while there are distractions and not having to hyper focus on the other. You could also work on the cue "leave it" so you can tell the dog to stop bothering the other when it happens. I made this video about training a cue to mean leave it from dogs czcams.com/video/6jYfKK17ZBs/video.html

    Informative and helpful as always, but even as someone without a playful puppy right now, I still watched the entire video because I love the calm, sweet and gentle way you teach and communicate with the dogs. Watching your videos has really changed the way I communicate with my dogs (although I’m nowhere near being this level of calm all the time).

    I found this video after about 3 months of dealing with my puppy being less than respectful of our 3 other dogs, but even though I wish I had seen it sooner im really thankful I saw it at all.
    This method is working great and im very optimistic for my pups/dogs future together, thank you Kikopup!

    This is super timely for us! I was looking for a very similar topic from you last night. My nephew’s new labrador pup needs work on recognizing another dog’s signals surrounding polite inter-dog behavior and/or overly exuberant play. In his case, it’s with an older labrador who’s tolerant, but clearly doesn’t like his rough play. I see as I type your great “pro tips” at the end and how they build on the behavior that your demo pup learned from them in his earlier lessons. Perfect! Thanks so much! Will share!

    Recently got a 8 month border collie mix and this is SO HELPFUL. she gets activiated by my cattle dog when she plays fetch or does exciting tricks. she goes into "stare and stalk" mode and breaking it down like this is wonderful. Thank you!!

    Thank You! this is so helpful. I have a 14yo senior Aussie, and a pup, and the pup stalks and herds the elder. He needs a break, and now I have an idea of how to approach it.

    Awesome video. Your timing is so spot on. I feel it is the key to sucess in this situation. Your multi tasking skills are great. This type of puppy would really get into trouble in life with out this type of training. I wonder if it has been playing with a lot of rougher adult dogs already?

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  Před rokem +6

      no, just his siblings, and he was not terribly rough, just impulsive, not thinking to move on and do something else when another dog says no. These types of overly bitey mouthy pups tend to be the ones that end up as wonderfully social with dogs and people. So i am always more worried when a puppy doesnt mouth or bite at all like my dog wish as a puppy

    This was really wonderful to see! Between the training sessions, how did you continue "managing" the behavior? Did you have Epic and Rio in separate spaces or did you try to intervene somehow when Rio lunged at her?

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  Před rokem +11

      super fun to teach as a trick more complex to teach as real communication. For me my dogs communicate so well with body language and behaviors, like going to the door when they need to go to the bathroom etc. Teaching them to vocalize is also fun but be careful what you wish for. Anytime I humm or sing wish wants to join in lol.

    My dog can be out of his bed on and off during the day. How can I enforce a stay until released in the same place when it is free to get in and out?

  • @bash3681

    My current dog who is 2.5 yrs old is very obnoxious/jealous when I pet or treat other dogs. If the dog is near me and I’m giving a treat to the other dog ( I’m even giving treats to my dog in this instance) he growls at the other dog. If the dog stil wants the treats then he nips. This is the same even with petting. It applies to all people in my household. So when a new dog is in the house I restrain from petting or treating the new dog. But that brings me to the question, can I never have my own second dog because my dog behaves this way? Or can this be trained? Pls lmk

    Whenever I correct and try and stop my 11 week old Lab puppy from biting me she seems to become even more reactive and bite me even more and harder. I have tried redirecting, time out, teaching her handling skills. She even sometimes like to run at me then start biting in a frenzy 😔.

    Hey there. I see that you are rewarding him quite a bit. Is this a condensed video or is it ok to reward that much ? Honest question. Thank you !

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  Před 11 měsíci +4

      yes good question. its not good to do training sessions where the puppy gets treats in fast succession if they are only focused on the treats, but because hes focused on the dogs, its reinforcing him for not doing anything and its easy to then not use any treats at all- like as you saw at the end of the video , in just a day, where if you used too many treats to train a behavior the dog is doing to get the treat it would take time to teach them to do it without treats present
