I've greatly missed going to the Met for ballet by my wonderful ABT ! Pre-covid I used to love going into NYC for ballet, walking, museums. Etc Since covid the city has really deteriorated and I've no desire to return.
Background Music 0:09 Nixon in China- Act 1, Scene 1: "News Has a Kind of Mystery" 2:10 Catalani: La Wally- Act 1: Ebben! Ne Andro Lontana 7:10 La Damnation de Faust- Part IV: Dans mon coeur retentit sa voix 10:18 Gershwin - Porgy and Bess Act1-Scene1-Summertime
Opening (from Nixon in China, which by a funny coincidence is running on Mezzo right now as I'm typing): Nixon: "Juice! Juice! We FLY HIGH in the USA..." 🥰
I rode a bus past there in 1965. I don't remember there being construction going on. And I do remember because I noticed it from the Calgon Bath Oil Beads commercial.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the opening; the people were poor and needed proper welfare. I love the Met and opera, but the people of new york skimmed against the poor/working class just as they do now, and we should not rewrite history! Instead, the city () kicked ut the immigrant community that lived there and displaced them with this fancy overpriced neighborhood.
That is a point. But look at what helping the poor has done to N.Korea and Cuba : everyone becomes poor. Lincoln Center - no slouch - provides music, dance, acting and singing. Plus there is much affordable housing in the 80/20 buildings and the NYCHA housing projects that are blocks long behind the center .
I usually hate architecture from that period but this building is strikingly gorgeous.

Great video. Thanks!
10:30 sitting on a table when there are few chairs available ... 🙄
It would be nice if they could have captions to describe the background music and artist.
"Hell's kitchen." "Remember, what the doorman said. Feed your head. Feed your head." So they gave him the Pharr-Murr's daughter.
