I once told that to Alex Lifeson of RUSH, another three piece and his exact words were, "I guess you haven't heard of ZZ Top". That is praise at its finest.

ZZ Top was actually originated in Jefferson County. They couldn’t get airtime on the overly conservative radio there so they made their professional start in Houston. Similar to Janis Joplin who also moved from Port Arthur to the city to find her fame.

My first rock concert was ZZ Top in Seattle, loudest band I'd ever heard, my ears rang for a week after the concert. At that point they were still doing the cowboy look, what else would you expect from a "Little old band from Texas"? Still one of the best bands around, would love to see them perform live again.
I was at that concert as well, I remember the roadies were tossing crazed groupies off the stage during the concert. And Billy was wearing a 10 gallon hat and playing his LP back in those days

I've seen ZZ Top many times.The best time was at the Cotton Bowl with Carlos Santana and Steve Miller Band. When Dusty sang "Tush" and sang the lyrics...'Dallas Texas', the sound of 40,000 people on their feet cheering was the best! Thanks Dusty. Great times!
I saw them a number of times too. I remember seeing ZZ Top open for the Stones at the Cotten Bowl, halloween night, I think it was like 1981? The Fabulous Thunderbirds were before Top and then the Stones. Wow...great days.

I agree with Ericynot....I dont understand how they sound so good with 3 basic instruments. Its incredible. They are so good ! I love how they mix pop, country, rock and blues. They play with such incredible tight yet smooth soul.
Saw them live back in the beginning. They had the stacks of amps with the steer horns mounted. The showmanship and musicianship was amazing. Totally mesmerized!
I saw World Wide Texas Tour in the 70’s and loved them ever since ! The “Fandango” album has never been beat. Unbelievable that three musicians can put out this incredible music. Their signature sound - Texas, blues rock.

"real" Texas sand, cactus, tumbleweeds, rattlesnakes... and a Texas-shape stage. Then, just three incredible musicians put on the show of a lifetime. Incredible !

Was always interested in the group as a kid, I think it was the name. Now that I am an adult I began listening to their music and I was blown away. Most people tend to think they are a rock-n-roll group, i disagree. I think they are more blues with elements of rock(which is what most music is anyway). I also think its amazing how they are just as good live now as they were 36 years ago.

Indeed Rugie, back in the day when they were just starting out NM was the first place outside Texas that they went. We loved them, and they love NM. They ALWAYS put on a special show for us.

RIP Dusty. The last time I saw them in a very very small village in Southern Germany (Schwäbisch Gmünd). And we were soo proud that the little ol' band from Texas were here.
I more than likely was conceived to these guys, I know my parents saw them in Texas in late 83 (indoor show in California) while my mom was pregnant with me, and I have taken my dad to see them twice now as an adult. Forever will be one of my top bands, just love that groove. I just love that some of their live tricks haven't changed in the almost 50 years that they have been around.

The energy in La Grange is phenomenol Rip Dusty you were one of my influences to start playing Bass. Saw them in Hartford CT. Great show!

I’ve listened to so much ZZ Top this past week, as everyone should have. All of these old rockers all seem larger than life, and it’s easy to assume we’ll have them around forever. RIP Dusty.

RIP Dusty. The last time I saw them in a very very small village in Southern Germany (Schwäbisch Gmünd). And we were soo proud that the little ol' band from Texas were here.

Zz top were the first band i ever saw live in our hometown of Houston, TX. Rest in paradise Dusty
I more than likely was conceived to these guys, I know my parents saw them in Texas in late 83 (indoor show in California) while my mom was pregnant with me, and I have taken my dad to see them twice now as an adult. Forever will be one of my top bands, just love that groove. I just love that some of their live tricks haven't changed in the almost 50 years that they have been around.
If this doesn’t make you feel like kick starting that old Shovelhead and tearing down the road, you have no pulse. If you don’t know what I’m talking about keep moving.
