    Thanks a lot for this excellent video !!!! It increased my probability for maybe getting a "Mozart" pair for my office.
    I use a traditional B&O speaker (old Powerlink) 5.1 setup via an Almando decoder together with a Beosytem 2500, Airport Express (Airplay) and cheap Philips 4k TV (for ambient light) + AppleTV 4K 2ndgen for my living-room. But since I also recently put a tiny Homepod mini in the same room, I'm amazed how often I just use this - convenience / Apple integration wins (in my case playing music directly on the HomePod). And I'm very worried with B&O's apparent focus/advertising on Google,... support, when I don't need or even want it. Apple ecosystem convenience made me decide for AirPods Pro instead of H95 (and giving away my H9i) and kept holding me back on buying an Emerge pair so far. I'm waiting if Apple might revive its HomePod for one more year, since B&O seems to have too much of a non-Apple focus. Having your open/independent view helps a lot!!!!

      Like you I am totally in the Apple eco-system and I like it very much. Around my house I have six full size HomePods and I love them. Those aren't made anymore and I think I will migrate to B & O stuff in the future, I totally love the B & O A9 for example, however if B & O were more integrated with the Apple eco-system it would be more appealing.

    Currently, i already use beostage as a soundbar on my samsung the frame TV which is connect through hdmi cable to the separate source system on that tv and it good works on that setup without delay anymore.
    as we know that the source system on the frame samsung tv already have HDMI Arc, so i have an idea to add more speaker to do a surround system then i trying to buy beosound emerge.. the question is.. does the beosound emerge will possible to connect the source through HDMI Arc on the tv source system?

    I recently bought a Beosound Level and trying to follow your instructions to use it with my Apple TV 4k 3rd gen and a Samsung TV. While the Apple TV does let me choose the Level as a "temporary audio output", it seems Apple removed the ability to use any speaker other than the Homepod as a "default audio output". And despite using the e-arc connection on my tv, I don't see any e-arc options in the Apple TV menu. I'm wondering if only Homepod enables the e-arc settings now, or if a change in the tvOS software simply handles it automatically now and "hides" it from the menus. Would love to hear more about this if anyone has more info!

      Apple appears to have made changes to their software since I made the video, I think that they only allow HomePods to be set as permanent speakers for Apple TV, other Airplay speakers need to be set up each time they are used

    But the latency still exists, no? I have to assume that the AirPlay setup simply introduces latency compensation, thus putting things back in sync - which sounds great for TV/film, but wouldn't work for live applications (e.g. games).

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Před 2 lety +2

      You are correct,Airplay compensates for the latency so it isn't a problem during movies, however, you can't use Airplay effectively for live applications such as gaming or karaoke, as these cannot be compensated for while playing live.

A couple follow ups 1) Does the content have to be playing through Apple TV (e.g., though Apple TV's Netflix app and not the Netflix app on whatever smart TV it is hooked up to.) 2) Do you think hooking up an over the air tuner like HDHomeRun then using the Channels app in Apple TV would be a way to watch live content without lag?

  • @DeepNightHour

    Hi Steve,
    Currently Apple does not allow third party wireless speakers to be set as default speakers, and Homepods are necessary to enable ARC on Apple TV. So I think with your method, ARC connection is neither utilized nor required, and the speakers cannot play from other sources that are connected to the TV… or am I missing something? I’m trying to setup the speakers for my parents to watch satellite channels, and it seems it’s impossible to enable ARC on Apple TV with my pair of Emerges.

    What about from a computer? Audio streaming does not matter if there is a lag or not, but watching CZcams or other videos you can not adjust the lag. A movie played using VLC can adjust the lag. I have done this because of the lag using uPnP with a pair of wi-fi/bluetooth speakers but had to guess at the parameter.
    Watching this on a laptop to a pair of Emerge speakers has more than a second lag. The Levels are the same.
    To set up on the laptop the Emerge and Level show as devices (wifi) but to use as a sound device need to connect via bluetooth.
    The desktop does not see either pair as devices and without bluetooth cannot make that connection.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, that is a good option, I use VLC for playing movies on my PC and this works very well

    • @geraldmcmullon2465

      I re-visited using the Emerge and Level for surround from the computer using analogue inputs. Level as front and Emerge as rear channel using RCA to 3.5mm cables. VLC dialled for the 330ms lag and set up for 4 speakers instead of the normal 6 channels I normally use. At normal listening levels very pleased with the quality and how they do work together. The Emerge, being used as rear speakers frequently beeped at me as if reconnecting. The line level dropped out and switched to Google Assist. As this was occurring every few minutes I suspect that when there was no rear channel audio the speakers switch out and sometimes not reconnecting. Whilst using VLC to control the lip sync issues it drifts during a movie and drops back to zero when going onto another video clip. The Chrome browser extension to do the same to control the lip sync auto-adjust for 300ms lag in the tool but then does nothing when watching CZcams. I don't have HDMI eARC on my monitors, not even the 65"touch panel.
      Autumn of 2022 one of B&O rivals in the life style systems market have a €14,000 five custom speaker surround system and an expensive box of electronics. Wireless and still cheaper than four Beolab 20, a centre and sub. Emerge, Level, Balance are so close to working with video source material, give more flexibility than larger wired in systems, lower cost and wireless. B&O and other manufacturers are not looking at customer's needs. This might be a niche market but equally because of costs; both in terms of money and having six speakers set up for watching movies. The small life style speakers could be used around the house by different family members and simply brought together for movie night. I wouldn't do that with Beolab 18 or 28 too much weight to move around.
      As much as B&O claim now that it can't be done it is still most likely an issue of software development. Over a year ago they suggested that they could be used with a TV, in 3 and 5 channel with future software upgrades. As more people are using computers and laptops as the source of their entertainment speakers need to be able to fully work with them out of the box.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for your detailed response, I agree that the planned B&O update to allow Emerge and Level to work as surround speakers is critical to getting the full potential from these speakers. I hope that they will get this ready quickly so that we can reliably use them in home cinema setups

      My daughter has an iPhone. She selected Airplay. A list of found devices showed Emerge and Level speakers. Her phone has Bluetooth switched off. She was able to select the speakers and play a CZcams video and video file without any lip sync issue and no setting up. I don't have an iPad or Mac to test. As the Windows Laptop and desks top can not cast from Windows Media Player or Chrome browser without a lag regardless of adjustment tried what is Apple Airplay doing on an iPhone that Windows is not able to do?
      This could explain why a Mac laptop user didn't find an issue with lip sync. I don't have a TV and noting I have has HDMI ARC or eARC but I do have a spare display port which a CYP debedder converts to 8 channel analogue audio. I don't see how Apple 4K TV or Chromcast device could be used with my computer as source showing on the computer screen over display port/HMDI. I am not able to switch all my hardware and software to Apple MAC versions and I still do not know if an Airplay MAC could do surround with Emerge, Level and Balance in 4 or 6 channel combinations.

      Yes, but they can usually only delay sound by up to 12 metres or 40mS. These speakers give a delay of 550mS which no receivers can account for.
