  • Took a look at a new tripod from Robus and compared it to my old tested and trusted Feisol tripod.
Both of these compared pretty favorably with each having some advantages.
The Robus tripod was sent to me for comparison.

Definitely looking at the Robus sticks because a bowl can be added so I can use my Sachtler fluid head. Nice review!

Hey, Scott. Great review. I've had a Robus 5570 for several years and love it (I don't think they make that model now). Glad you like the Robus. The 5580-3 is a steal right now!

It is still offered for sale at B&H. The brand falls under the Gradus Group, which incudes the VELLO line and others; essentially an in house brand. I’ve talked with their support, and it is very good. I was told if I ever had an issue with my 5570, it would be covered.
Good tall legs ( I’m 6’-3”) and nicely built, but I get some flex, and the leg locks could be better. The Robus ball head that came with it is superb. Maybe not on the level of RRS, but close.
I hope Scott can get a Leofoto to try out. I think they are a brand that will take off, and will be a dominating force in the world of tripods. I recently picked up an LS-364 C from Leofoto USA, and it is much more solid and stiff, compared with my Robus. Leofoto USA is exemplary!!! A shout out to ‘Patrick’ and gang! Anyways, Happy Shooting!

Good review Scott. I use the Induro Grand Series CT505, the stability is by far the best I've used, coming from a Manfrotto series tripod. The lock/unlock mechanism is super smooth, with one twist action. It's a good tripod for the taller photographer.

I reveiwed their monopod recently assuming they use the same twist lock system, I found it to be very nice! (but the monopod was short!)

I picked up the monopod and both seem very fair, well built and good price.

Hi Scott, nice review. I have been using the Feisol Elite CT-3472 for about 2 1/2 years and have been very pleased with it. I knew about the odd thread size for the feet going in and came up with a DIY solution to adapt the larger Feisol thread to the standard 3/8 inch thread used by everybody else. I use claw feet on mine, but also have a set of long spikes that I use occasionally. The main reason I choose the Feisol was because they offered a very reasonably priced leveling head as I do mostly landscape photography. But, I also use it with a gimbal and long teles and I find the tripod very stable. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $1500 on a Gitzo or RRS.

SO FUNNY! last week when I did this review I started looking for an adapter! I thought it would be the perfect cheap solution. feel free to message me with what you got, for some reason the specs dont seem easy to find but I think it was an m20? metric to 3/8??

@@WildlifeInspired Hi Scott Sorry for the delay in responding. Here's what I came up with:
      Items needed:
Weiler 07769 Adapter 5/8”-11 UNC thread to 3/8”-16 UNC Nut (for angle grinders) x 3
(available on Amazon and maybe at welding supply houses)
The following items are available on Amazon or should be available at most hardware or
home improvement stores that sell tools:
5/8”-16 Die (used to convert male threads of Weiler nuts so they will screw into tripod legs)
      1” OD x 5/8” ID Stainless Steel Washers x 3
      1” OD x 5/8” ID Flat Rubber Washers x 3
      Optional:
Die Handle for Die (I used a large adjustable wrench and it worked fine)
      Conversion Steps:
      1. Place Adapter Nuts in a vise thread side up
      2. Slowly thread the Die onto the threads to alter their pitch.
      3. Place one ss washer and one rubber washer on each Adapter Nut with rubber washer on top so it contacts bottom of tripod leg when nut is screwed in.
      4. Slowly screw Adapter Nuts into bottom of tripod legs, making sure that they do not cross-thread, until rubber washers contacts legs. Do Not Over-Tighten!

Don't bother with Gitzo, i bought one of their 3 series XL tripods as i wanted a taller tripod than my Feisol CT3472. The Gitzo is nowhere near as stiff and the leg locks keep sticking. I will be getting rid of it next year and probably get the Feisol CT-3372L.

Excellent review. I have the smaller Feisol ct3401 and while I generally like it, it too has the dumb end cap feet instead of the proper threaded kind like on every other brand. Another issue I have with my Feisol is that the collars completely seize up in very cold temperatures.

    • @WildlifeInspired
      @WildlifeInspired  Před 2 lety +1

I think the Feisol is a great value and I am very happy with it. That said, the feet make me crazy. It's such a simple fix, and people have complained for years about (the monopod is the same). I haven't had any major issues in cold temps with either monopod or tripod, but you may be using for longer period of time or in colder conditions (God bless you)

I’m using an Artcise AS90C tripod from Amazon and it performs amazingly well. The main tube is 40mm in diameter and the current cost is $337.00. A great value. My other tripod is a ProMedia Gear TR344L which has a main tube diameter of 34mm and the current cost is $1249.95.

  • @rogerapplegatephotography5500

    Scott - Nice review.
    My two cents:
I have a Robus (8830). I used it extensively over the summer for landscape and for birds. Two issues I ran into: the apex on the Robus is too large and the tripod is awkward to carry around with a camera and lens on it. When the tripod is extended, the feet do not automatically align so you can carry it on your shoulder. The other issue was the little wing nut screw device that tightens at the apex fell of a few times. Once while I was standing on a dune at White Sands NP. What a pain.
My other tripod is from Pro Media Gear. Like your review said, it will cost to step up. The Pro Media Gear is more expensive, but is smoother and more sturdy to use.

Why does your audio in studio sound over processed. Do you use a compressor of some sort?
Benro makes some very nice tripods that are affordable as well.

    • @WildlifeInspired
      @WildlifeInspired  Před 2 lety +1

I use a dbx 286 but i don't compress a lot, I will clean up audio sometimes at the end so maybe I did something there. I am running a one may show here a lot so I think having some for of compression live is helpful.

The Robus looks very much like the Leophoto - certainly very similar in design. Quite happy with my Leofoto LS-365C Ranger. Cheers from Down Under!

I just reviewed their monopod and was impressed! Would love to look at their tripod as well, I'll see if I can get my hands on one from B&H
