- I have been a fan of Ann Lofquist’s landscapes for years so it was a great thrill to finally meet her at her opening. Her work is beautiful and the example of how she's led her creative life is invaluable for any aspiring artist. Live frugally, check your ego at the studio door, and make art that connects to human experience.
I apologize for getting the year wrong at the end of this movie, Ann's show is this year, which is 2024, NOT 2004! Your elderly and apologetic videographer!
This was refreshing to hear the thoughts from such a talented artist. So much emphasis is put on trying to be different to suit modern ideas but art made from the artist’s true personal love for their output is what matters more than stylistic gimmicks
Ann's work is a visual breath of fresh air. One feels the presence of nature, as she captures light and form with her marvelous painting technique. I enjoyed the comparisons between the studies and the final studio works where she can reinvent and expand upon the composition. Once again John, thank you for this wonderful introduction. I'm sure her show will be a huge success.

I think, despite her not nodding towards climate change there is an environmental aspect to her painting. Her reference to needing to go further and further away due to invasive species.
