8:24 Beginners practice until they get it right. Pros practice until they can't get it wrong.
That is exactly right sir
Its reassuring to see professional performers still get nervous. Cheers Mr Chapman.
i have my first gig in 2 days, thanks rob!
Best luck Dude😀
How did it go?🤞🏾
How was it?
Your a good dude, i havent gigged since december 2019 and i only started in early 2019 😅 hope it goes well dude and gives you a fresh boost of energy
This is really great advice Rob. I’ve been doing the exact same thing for the past few weeks for some upcoming gigs and it’s made a huge difference, I’m using the Headrush FRFR as my monitor to simulate being onstage. I wish I had taken this approach years ago. You’re sounding great too mate!
Great video Rob!! I always practiced/ rehearsed exactly as I was planning to perform the gig. I also found the playing live 2 or 3 nights a week, every week was much easier musically than, later in my career playing concert type events a few times a year.
My bands only just got back together for practice with a new drummer, hoping to be able to do some shows later in the year, great advice for practice👍
Good luck with the live shows Allan, thanks for watching :-)
Greeeeeetings Rob! Long time fan of you and your channel and I just wanted to say that this latest video was informative and a great guide! Keep up the GREAT work Chappers! 🤘🏻
I can't wait to get your vinyl!
Great video, thanks for the help!
Good stuff Rob. Always thanks for your vids.
This was helpful. Thanks Chappers. Great insights shared.
Another jem, thanks dude! 👍
cool video, my bands back gigging and having a routine is crazy important, I will definitely be setting up the studio this way from now on...... and standing up!!!!
Thanks for watching Danny, yeah man standing up is absolutely important :-)
Hi Rob I hope things are settling in for u in Malta! I can see in your eyes how much you miss playing live...bet you hat first show back will rock! June 25 and wish I was there..lol.. good luck and be safe man!
Great advice Rob! 🤘
Great video Rob🤘🏻
Great advice! Great video! Thank you my man!
thanks Rob. i needed this
Thank you so much for this video, Rob! I started a new band in April and we‘ve been rehearsing regularly ever since. We play Punk/Post-Rock and I‘m the only guitar player and vocalist although I have never taken over vocal duties (we‘re not going for real singing more for punk shouting). I was worried about playing and singing at the same time and your tips are so valuable. I just got a microphone and next rehearsals we‘re going to start practicing with vocals. If you plan on doing more videos about singing and playing, I‘m all for it! Cheers!
Solid advice, I do similar routine. Also vocal warm ups( use the ones with mouth closed/humming, won’t stress out vocal cord)
For home use with bigger amps, I recommend a volume pedal. A good volume pedal will keep your tone the same, but at lower volumes. Now that I found out how much volume can be reduced with one, I am no longer scared of how loud a bigger tube amp will be in my house. I will use a 2x12 Cab which is all you need for only small and medium sized gigs and if you are on a mic at bigger shows than you will be able to get enough volume anyways plus if you are too loud to fit well in a live mix than a volume pedal can help you not sound too loud. As to 4x12s sounding fuller, in a band mix I don't want too much bass anyways.
Also, I'm going to eventually get a 50 watts amp head I want because 50 watts is enough for playing with a drummer without a mic setup and I saw/heard proof in a video I saw.
I really hope you guys tour the states soon. Would love to see you guys live.
Really miss the USA!
excellent advice ...
Great singer❤️🔥
Good tip!
Your singing voice is amazing these days!
Great video
Great to hear that you will be playing live again Rob. Maybe get CW&C over to the west coast at some point in the not so distant future?
Definitely would love to tour America again it’s been awhile :-)
Thank you Rob Chapman for your contribution to the music field.
No way I'll be giging any time soon haha but great video :)
I play bass and I have a gig in a couple weeks. It’s my first time ever playing a solo live so I’m kinda nervous 😅
How’d it go? And do you have a recording of it? I’m a bassist as well.
Love the dark tone! Which rig you’re using?
❤❤❤❤
Still stuck gigging in Wiltshire lol. However, we recently lost our other (main) guitarist, so Rebel Station are back to a three piece. However, I'm playing through a boss Katana head 100w with a Harley Benton sc vintage 1000 and I cant get a "full sound" to fill the stage. I always find the boss head a bit Lacking in fullness whatever guitar I use (even more so with a single pickup Ibanez), but are there any tricks when playing small venues with a PA and an engineer that can make the guitar in a three piece feel a bit bigger live?
Should that all be up to the engineer and front of house EQ or are there any pedals or cab twinning etc that can help for the sound the punters hear?
Cheers Chappers!
Tommi
Greetings Rob, you are doing a great job 👏 please remember sell me some guitars 😁
I'll take the new V in that purple you did for the tele
Rob!! I need your help on this! I messed loads this friday for our first gig in almost a year! How to fight the fright?!?
Hey dude, just practice until you get bored that really is the key, run it again and again even in your head if you are not at a rehearsal studio
🤟
Have a good time 👏
New subscriber here..! thanks Rob
Thanks for subscribing sir nice to meet you :-)
Holy shit Adam.
I hope u come back to the states to play again..
Hi Eric, definitely will - hopefully next year there will be a tour :-)
@@RobChappers oh man Rob im there...be safe my friend and good luck in all your life's endeavors...rooting for u as always
I have my PA and my amps that are mic'ed into the PA in front of me so I can hear my FOH
I gotta get used to singing and playing at the same time
Hi Rob , do you live in an alternate reality where there are 35+ hours in a day ?
it‘s all about time management 😅
Ha ha no, I just get up very early...
Thanks Rob, our first for the summer is in 8 days. My problem is if I try to practice while the boys (4 and 7) are up they get really excited and want to help me play by grabbing the strings and twisting pedal knobs. If I wait until they're in bed, I can't make any noise. So I end up at rehearsal wasting the other guys' time tweaking pedals and practicing lines because I didn't show up prepared.
Headphones? My housemate works nights, so I play through headphones a lot
I always stand up to play an electric guitar. I don't feel right sitting down.
You should work with adrian smitj
What happened to Rock & Roll??!?!
Live music used to be all about Cigarettes & Alcohol, but now it's all about getting to bed early and being careful about what you eat/drink in order to keep you voice in good shape...
Party On!
Yeah it became more professional. Double edged blade innit
People simply got sick of making themselves sick. The biggest fun is in the people and the music, more than making ourselves sick!
There’s a reason Motley Crue live in the 2010s wasn’t comparable to what they were in the 1980s. When it doesn’t make you enough to be rich even after the cost of party life you need to behave to preserve your musical career and income
Did you check out Justin Johnson yet?
Chappers dont lie we all have forgot how to play live lol
Where do you put your're wig m8
A more realistic simulation of a live gig shouldn't have the placement of the PA behind the performer. Therefore, a floor monitor has to be a part of a more realistic simulation of a live gig. In addition to setting any associated instrument Amps with the amps direct to PA and amps 🎤 to PA. The monitor should have the performer's preferred mix sent in from the PA.
These conditions are imperative to simulate a live gig. As there are no simulations of a live gig other than a copy of a live gig setup.
he didn't say it was to mimic a gig, he said it was to mimic playing in a band. subtle difference.
n1
ahoy
In my case, I need to START practising again. Due to COVID, and due to new job schedules, the band has been on hiatus. I have not even TOUCHED any of our songs.
Dude, party the fuck up
Do you think townsend sing loud? Or his face fools us?
Both, he sings loud in some ranges and not in others
Just make sure you poop sometime BEFORE the gig
I am just glad that I have always refused to sing in addition to torturing guitars.... ;-) I just cannot do it.
Dude what the Hell 2 kids in and u not Married u Heathen
I am married… i’ve been married for six years, what the hell are you talking about.
Honestly man sometimes CZcams just leaves me staggered that people would leave comments like this…
I love the fact that Rob's clearly wearing a wedding ring in the video 😂
Moron.
chappers can't play guitar
