  • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) aims to transition to a zero-emission fleet by 2035, raising several practical and security concerns. Cold weather impacts EV battery efficiency, requiring advanced thermal management and heated charging stations. Rural areas lack charging infrastructure, necessitating a comprehensive network and mobile units.
Current EVs may not meet police work demands, prompting partnerships with manufacturers for purpose-built vehicles. Limited operational range suggests using hybrid vehicles during the transition. Charging times and cybersecurity risks also need addressing. Balancing EVs with ICE vehicles for high-stakes operations is crucial to maintaining the RCMP's effectiveness.

Let's bin our current, viable, fleet of ICE vehicles in favour of a fleet of EVs with all the problems bring with them. Genius. How long before they incinerate potential criminals when the car's battery goes bang and the doors won't open?
