It broke my heart when I found out why Mr. Nebbercracker acted the way he did, plus the last dance he got with her was so touching 😭

This movie made me tear up as a kid because how sad his wife’s passing was 😢

The message was that people who have suffered too much cannot be healed, and should be put out of their misery. It's like helping street people attain heaven by setting them on fire.

The beginning story really caught me off guard.
“The 2000’s were a lawless time.”
That’s when I went to school too.
“The entire class would be sent to the library and drag out the cart with the tv vcr on it.”
I do indeed remember that and know the cart too well.
“The old librarian lady would say we’re going to watch the DOLL HOUSE MURDER!!”
Hmmm… I never saw that but I never remember seeing any scary movies….and then it hit me. It was basically the opposite of the scene with the critic in Ratatouille, I basically had war flashbacks about the scary movies they showed us. Yeah, I was pretty much terrified of everything when I was little too.

It's always so fascinating meeting people scared of horror, having been raised on horror since I was 3; my parents were horror junkies and figured they'd get my little sisters and I into it so they wouldn't miss out on anything. We have a home video of our dad dressed as Pinhead with chains and real pins. I still remember high fiving a guy when Paris Hilton died during House of Wax and being present at the midnight showing of Hostel. I loved all the horror shows growing up as a kid in the 90s. Although I will admit horror games are completely different than movies; I'm a big sissy when it comes to them, I'll play them, but I will get scared and need the lights on. The ending of this movie was so sad, yet really truly made my family and I love it. I like to call it the first true "Up" heart wrenching moment before Up came out (the first few minutes of Up is what I'm talking about) and definitely made you feel stuff. It's a great Halloween movie. Cute video, BTW. I subbed cause you were pretty darn entertaining.

Great video and love this movie too. And I also get easily scared as kid, seeing just a photo of Sadako's eye from Ringu wouldn't let me sleep for a few nights, but now I love and enjoy watching horror movies.

This movie was really great :) My son was exactly how you were with scary movies. So I got this not knowing what to expect ( I figured he wouldn't watch it). I was surprised when BOTH of us just sat there and couldn't stop watching. We still watch it once in awhile :) Great video!

4:45 back then this film and *The Ant Bully* came out around the same time, I was too scared to see M.H. from the poster alone so I went to see The Ant Bully instead

love your analysis of this film! i feel like this was such an impactful film for most people of our generation even though most people don't remember what happened besides there being a scary house and really messed up imagery that was maybe a little too scary for a PG film. this also compounded with the fact that i had just moved to the US from a culture that doesn't celebrate halloween or 'do' scary movies for kids, so it was truly wild going from really tame children's cartoons to seeing corpses and skeletons and fucked up houses that was a little too much for my impressionable kiddie brain to handle! i have to somewhat disagree about the art style, though. i feel like while it was slightly better than some other more realistic animation styles that were attempted of that time, there's still some of that early 3D animation awkwardness that added a lot to the eeriness of the film, like occasional unnatural character motions, certain character designs that weren't cartoony enough, stuff that pushed it into the uncanny valley for me that resulted in this film being cemented into my memory as one of the creepiest things i watched as a kid! i don't think a modern remake would be able to capture the same haunting uncanniness and the earnestness of the original film, so it really is a gem of its time.

your channel is some of the best film analysis I've found on youtube. Between movies like this, critically acclaimed stuff like the shining, you're able to pull really fantastic points from all of it. Thank you!
