Very good video. I now know how to do much more. I will be sure to show this to other show people. I have a yearling heifer that I am training. She is such a good girl and I not know how to square feet! Great video!
This is a absolute amazing video! Good on you, you made the angus look beautiful! I have a black angus heifer, that I am going to try it on :) thanks heaps !
i would rinse my steer once a day but when he comes home there is 3 feet of snow.... thanks for the video. i wish i found it last summer cuz we had a clipping incident and he looked bad!
I have a question... My steer doesnt have enough hair to "Puff" him for the show and the fair is in 3 day. Do you think its ok to just brush his hair down? Also, my steers companion steer is getting slaughtered tomorrow, do you think he will be ok not having his friend for 2 days? Or will he be to depressed to eat?
hey. I have never owned any cows or any sort of livestock. I really want to get into showing. what does a good show cow look. like and what do you do at shows?
john Thomason for first of all u half to get it trained to lead by putting a halter on it and tie it up for a few days so it gets used to it then get it farmilar with noise and used to the washing part
The longer the better but the head should be clipped if it's a beef heifer, if its dairy clip everything except the bottom of the belly to give a deeper rib look.

Be sure to watch Part 2 of Fitting and Showing Angus Cattle. These tips are great no matter what breed you have.
angus cattle are great fun! me and my dad own 15 of them.. they are the most calm breed of cattle out!
Wow, beautiful animals. Their cleaned black coat is so nice..
Learned a lot here. Great video

@rodeogirl13245 @Mr14NYM15 Actually these animals are heifers, but the tips given can be applied to heifers, steers and bulls.
You can bath them in the winter, but typically it is done indoors. The animals are then dried before they return outdoors.
This was SUCH a helpful video :)
Yes, typically most people will do it in a barn. We then use a blower, which is like a big blower dryer, to get all of there hair dry.
Angus cattle are naturally polled, so they do not need to be dehorned. Other breeds that have horned cattle make choose to dehorn them at birth.
@cowboytbterry its all just a matter of how much work in effort you put into it actually
i live on a angus cattle farm in ireland and thats my dads job he does it completly diffrent
i would rinse my steer once a day but when he comes home there is 3 feet of snow.... thanks for the video. i wish i found it last summer cuz we had a clipping incident and he looked bad!
cleanest cattle in the world
Love Angus cattle. I love our Limmies though! :D
I'm about to get a calf
Amy Selvey awesome! I get to pick a commercial calf

@EpicArabianPony welll my dad and i own over 1,000. and i vote angus is the tamest breed of cattle out there!
Um it depends on what kind of calf it is. My personal opinion is herefords are tame and so are maines/maintaners. But we all have our opinion :-)
Shorthorns are pretty good too
It said only wash like 1 or 2 a month your supposed to wash them 1 to 3 times a week
Rinse everyday before a big show at least a month ahead. Then go back to 3-4 times rinsing a week
washing to much will dry out the skin
i showed a calf at my local fair

What type of clippers do you use?
It tells in the video
do you clip red angus differently than angus?
is there certain lengths for different parts on the cows or bull?
Cody Burris
Cody Burris you trim the crest shorter on a cow so it looks for feminine
@ADeadlyPancake not unless you live in warm climate

Hi do I clip my heifer short or leave her fur long because she has sorta long fur
The longer the better but the head should be clipped if it's a beef heifer, if its dairy clip everything except the bottom of the belly to give a deeper rib look.
The longer the better if beef, but clip the head, but if dairy clip everything except the bottom of the belly
The longer hair the better. It makes it easier for fitting.
Kellyann Hahn leave her long
@Mr14NYM15 the animals they are demonstrating with are steers..... not bulls:)
scrub down not in circles. circles will break up the hair.
Ericka Dale ya
Ericka Dale sometime I think these people are wrong just be they see someone else on u tube do it or something
MB McClure That's actually a really smart theory!
You wouldn't say black angus. You would say just angus. If you had Red angus say red angus.
@bikerbro4life I have to disagree. Go the Murray Grey!! My 2 friends and I own like 17!
They wash the cow milk breast and they wash the cow milk little Pee drops
i think sullivans show supply sponcored this LOL
*What a waste of time and money.*
