They have so much more story and importance put into them compared to the main cast. When's the last time you cried over Sora, Riku, Kairi, or Donald? They've had sad moments, but never had to find out one of them was a puppet and had to fight their best friend to the death. They've never questioned their own existence as a whole. Each trio has had terrible struggles, but none as bad as Roxas, Axel and Xion.

Then Aqua having to fight her best friend and seal the other one away before being thrown into the realm of darkness themselves. I'd say they might have the most tragedy out of all of them.

Three friends went on their own quests and adventures, had many victories, experienced loss and defeat and ultimatelly their stories ended in tragidy. Yet in spite of that, their journey wasn't meaningless since they managed to make their loss a pyhrric victory for their enemies. Vanitas "died" and failed to create the keyblade, Xehanort faced constant struggle for control of Terra's body and likely lost his memory for a bit, or at least had to lay low for a while. And more than that, they managed to pave the way for the heores that would come afterwards. The days groups are just a tragedy fullstop. The breakdown between Lea and Isa was inevitable, as you can see that Saïx always had golden eyes which mean he was already unkowinglly a vessel. Roxas and Xion literally cannot coexist without one of them dying. All of them are being lied to manipulated by their boss, and two of them don't even have any memories so it's not like they could know any better. The quote on quote "good guys" can't be trusted either, since they seek to get two of them killed. Even relying on each other isn't an option for them due to the aforementioned vessel and puppet issues. They are truly helpless, alone and without recourse, preyed upon by both sides of this "war". What's more, comparetively, the BBS trios situation never realy felt exactly hopeless. Sure the odds were massively stacked against them considering how much planning Xehanort had put into the whole thing, but at least they could actually fight back. The tragedy of BBS is that it always felt like, if only they had been a little stronger, just a little bit smarter, been aware of the danger just a little sooner and if they had trusted and relyed on each other just a tiny bit more, then maybe there was chance they could have actually won. The Days group doesn't have that. There was no action they could have taken, no choice they could have made, no person they could have trust or relyed on to prevent what happened to them. Because of the situation and circunstances they were in, their tragedy was well and truly inevitable. The only thing they could do is cling to each other and their happy days until it all eventually comes crashing down. And when it inevitable did, time was up. Regardless of wether they chose to accept it, fight it or try to avoid it, one way or another it would always end in hopeless tragedy. And that's why I feel that the story of Days and the suffering of that group is more impactful than BBS.
I think this might be my favorite scene in all of kh. There is so much emotion and the delivery for axel and you really feel the anger and frustration he feels. If they remade days, I want to actually play axel in the fight to bring xion back.
When I was younger I prayed for the day something like this could happen but nowadays I hope this doesn't happen the only way I would ever watch an anime Kingdom Hearts is if it's entirely ran by Square Enix and Disney has nothing to do with it but that is so unlikely
There's another beginning to Xion and Roxas's s story. An alternative I deem better than... this (I believe in forgiveness, but I also believe in paying your debts when certain values are violated, and the truth is, he still manipulated her into ending herself and, didn't reveal he planned to lead her brother figure into the slaughter). There's a good dark fanfic called "Twilight Will" in which he refuses to return to Sora. Sora is my favorite character... But I was very proud of Roxas for fighting to claim a future of his own design. Because that is how you know you're a living being. Any less, and you just happen to be a toy that breathes. And besides, a battle hardened soldier ? Forget emo Riku (yes, I'm aware I should have more empathy for him given what he went through), this is the dark badass opposite of the optimistic protagonist I wanna see. I love Sora, I understand their sacrifice was an option, but it shouldn't have been their first one. I mean, even the MoM created measures to ensure the survival and ressurection of his disciples. Then again, Riku was a traumatized 15 year old when receiving orders from the bitter sociopath who saw him and Sora as his weapons. It's incredibly easy to manipulate people who are constantly questioning themselves and carry a lot of guilt.

The game was great, but I believe that the game could've been better and improved. This rewrite is meant to make it as long or longer then Kingdom Hearts 2 and puts many earlier developments in the main story to rest, but also creates new ones for the next saga. This rewrite also combines scenes from Re:Mind so just pretend that there is no DLC expansion, as those should have been in the vanilla game. This rewrite is not meant to disrespect the original writers, this is just meant for fun. This story will be split into three stories, Sora, Riku, and Kairi's story, it runs on a certain order so changing the story order is not optional. I'm not a CZcamsr, so posting in the comment section is the best I can do to get my rewrite out there.
