Those terrain kits aren’t as expensive as I thought they would be according to the price list. Good to see. Bit of a shame we didn’t get any new sculpts for WoC in the first or second wave but glad to see those rank and file chaos warriors back. Always loved how imposing they are as a wall of shields (the new AoS sculpts are great too but definitely suit skirmish more than rank and file).
Yeah I’ve used all the new stuff, and it definitely is a squeeze on the bases, the increased base size has helped with that a little. I can see a lot of people maybe using the new kits a chosen instead of the metals.
Sorry for the late comment. Been on a few holidays the last 2 weeks. Just wanted to chip in: My favourite ever hobbying moments were my orcs vs my friends chaos. Such fun battles. I personally believe Fantasy Chaos was the best army GW ever devised. The models looked amazing, the army was well themed and storied, and I remember it being relatively balanced on the table. Good to see it returning.
so pleased to see the terrain coming. Won't collect the chaos, but is heartening to see another army being released. Only just got my dwarf battalion assembled at weekend and they drop the terrain!
Yes I hope they pick up the pace a bit now and I have also heard rumors that The Old World has passed Age of Sigmar in sales numbers and then we have to take into account that there are a lot of AoS models that have been sold for to be used in ToW, I looked through what I have bought myself for AoS model kits to use in ToW and there are at least 9 of them. One of them is to use as terrain for my Night Goblin army. And I'm a little torn about the terrain that's coming now, because I've backed a kickstarter that will take up, if not all, the majority of next month's hobby budget. would have suited me better if it came when I can afford it again, because one of the stores I shop at is giving 17% off during pre-order. First world problem I know. Also want to say that I like this format of videos
Thank you, I’m trying to do a few more like this in and amongst the painting and hobby stuff. It must be hard for them to get a clear picture of what’s bought for what game system, but I’ve no doubt they will have seen an uplift in certain product lines that were clearly AOS product only being sold for TOW.
I think it’s just rumours that have spread, I’ve certainly not seen anything in terms of evidence, but things spread and develop like Chinese whispers.

I think High Elves would make sense next, and I’d imagine they will now save Wood Elves to come before or just after Beasts, but you never know, they could go with Empire next, purely as it’s the essence of the old world.
no new models says to me they are holding out for a supplement release or such down the line for the actual big war against chaos. I think the range here is pretty good, new models in aos ranges are great but wouldn't be bothered with a lot of these older sculpts
As a chaos player Im excited but a little bit disappointed about no special characters miniatures being released. Also, I think we really need a new chaos lord on dragon miniature. Egrimm van Horstmann was released 30 ys ago, we need a new model for chaos lord/ sorcerer on dragon. How do they expect we get that miniature ? Good video btw
I wonder if that’s why there hasn’t been a new miniature for this release? There’s new special characters, one of which looks to be a dragon, maybe that’s the plan but it’s not ready yet. Would be very cool. In the short term I think AOS really has everything we need to fill the gaps.

Loving seeing Old World inch up on the GW store. When the bulk of the products are just old hash with the cooler new characters always sold out that speaks extra loud. 1st time in years I have had a steady flow of GW products pouring in.. I did cancel my WD sub though as I was frustrated with the lack of Old World content. I'm sure we'd all like to see more but the truth is I can only paint so fast.
It’s a shame about White Dwarf, I didn’t expect to see much, but I’d have hoped for at least one more article, but understand why it’s focused on 40K & AOS. It took a long time for Horus Heresy to get regular(ish) content in WD, so it’s not impossible in the future.
I’m more excited for Old World than 40K and I hope once everything is out there is a release schedule akin to Horus Heresy. Definitely not looking forward to anything like the AoS or 40K release schedule. Super excited about the terrain too!
My assumption would be that it was more akin to Heresy, just down to the resources that SDS have alone. I think it’s possible we could get a sort of new edition after 3 years, especially if the ‘scope of the project’ has changed they they say. I can see a scenario where some more factions are brought back, but the rules get a new book, but pretty much a 1.5 release, with some rewording and FAQs worked in, all Arcane journals staying current etc.

Since its rumored they're releasing at the beginning of September I see this release as coming really soon Either way my big excitement currently is coming with the terrain.

They’ve already announced what’s going to be up for pre-order this Saturday, but I don’t think it will be long before they announce it. It’s usually at 18:00 on Sunday that they announce the next weeks pre-orders, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for sure.
Love the WoC minis. Love that champion of chaos and the chimera, plus the chosen. If I can snag those just as painting projects I'll be happy, and maybe look out for something else to pick up in the future. None of the made to order stuff is a must have for me. I'm really psyched for that terrain. I think everyone will be, it looks fantastic.
Very exciting! Now, I would have liked to see 1) a mono-god army of infamy option, and 2) Forsaken platic kits back on shelves (definitely one of the more popular core choices for competitive play). Hoping we'll get those things before long. But over all pretty happy :)

Really happy with this minis! And so many of them! I'm still recovering financially from all my dwarf purchases, but I would love to have some of this models.
Very exciting times. Everything does seem to be picking up pace very quickly. The Norsca styled army of infamy excites me probably the most. Those werewolves have to be part of that surely? Chaos minis from yesteryear have held up really well…albeit some of the marauder minis have some goofier biceps etc but I’m sure a careful paint job can do away with a fair bit of that. Maybe a little bit of a shame of lack of characters but they look to be coming in metal if anything. I have a bunch of old Realm of Chaos metal minis that will work well as characters. The AOS minis as you rightfully point out will add a huge amount of variety available for the upcoming old world range

Let’s hope we get a good run now. The MTO does look a little ‘light’, but i imagine some classics will be lost to time if the moulds/masters aren’t available.

Really looking forward to the WOC release, and I agree it feels like momentum has picked up again. Even if WOC take longer to come out, if they keep up with articles, reveals of terrain etc it won’t feel as long. I was originally planning a WOC army using the S2D range from AOS, but looking at these again I think I’ll actually go for mostly Old World kits with maybe some S2D stuff for characters. Looking forward to your Hellcannon tutorial!

Oh yes absolutely. I have to roll with the news cycle a bit, there’s been 7 Epic based videos in the past two months, but it’s been Old World news heavy in the last few weeks. I have at least two planned for the next few weeks, one hopefully this month.
It’s so nice to see them available again. I was very kindly gifted everything but the hills, half assembled and painted a few months back, could never have afford the eBay prices for them. Going to grab some hills though.
Warriors of Chaos is one of the very few WHFB armies that never interested me. Which is a good thing in this instance, because I'm glad The Old World is (re)growing continuously, but my wallet could use a break after Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, Orcs and Dwarfs all brought (or brought back) models I wanted. And than I saw the Hellcannon. And of course my Chaos Dwarfs want that Hellcannon. RIP my wallet, you almost got away this time...
I just hope they'll update empire troops for the release, warriors of chaos held up great to the test of time, but stare troops look pretty bad for 2024, not tk bad but they are getting close.
I’ll be honest with you, I think there’s zero chance of that happening. The only faction to get new core was Brets, and that’s was part of a new unit and a system release thing. The last Empire state troops were quite late in the context of many of the returning plastics, 7th edition I think, to replace the ones that came in the 6th edition starter. They were quite modern multi-pose and are generally quite popular I think. I know some people have converted cities of Sigmar from AOS is you’re looking for something a bit more modern.
I think so many people already are, I imagine they’ve probably factored that in to their sales targets. They were probably the easiest faction to run based on AOS models.
So I started the project as a speed paint, but then halted it when I couldn’t make the game I was painting it for, then Dwarfs were announced and I started working on them. So they’re all built and ready, airbrushing done, and some other base layers. The plan will be now to go back and finish them and make a big video on it (already have a lot of footage). I did discuss my original plans in a livestream, I think the basic list was talked about as well. Large chunks of Bretonnians are constantly unavailable in the U.S. Heck, GW even canceled and refunded an order for questing knights command months after I saw it in stock and ordered it.
Yeah that’s not good, and I’m not suggesting everything is right, I was careful to say UK webstore, but I feel things might be turning a corner. Stock across all their ranges isn’t right still, and I don’t think it will be fully fixed for a couple of years yet.
I’m not sure if I’m honest. I think in most cases they want to completely separate the lines and IP’s. The Dwarfs have now been removed from the cities of Sigmar range, but I think they’re still covered by rules in AOS for Dispossessed? I’m assuming they don’t sell much for AOS, and while some people will buy from the TOw range to use in AOS, they’re just accepting that will have to be the case for a few miniatures while it takes a few years to resolve itself.
You know Games Workshop is creatively bankrupt when all they can do is reuse old moulds. Good stuff though, but then all of the Golden Age GW stuff was.
Not lack of creativity, more the capacity of creatives and production to do more new stuff. They have a lot of games to serve these days, but I’d obviously love to see more new stuff too.
I think it's a bit unfair to judge the success of the Old World based upon the initial lack of releases (I commonly see complaints online equating the lack of releases to GW's supposed lack of interest in supporting this game). I think it's pretty evident from the rash and frequency of product we're now seeing that GW probably had a steady release schedule planned, but had to drop that pretty early on due to a log jam of product (I'm guessing Legion Imperalis being delayed and then the drop of Skaventide meant they did not want to cannibalize their own sales).
I agree 100%, wish more people realised the limitations that SDS have, let alone the wider production and logistics issues. From a personal point of view I’ve added that commentary because I think it reflects the questions I see in the wider community, and I’ve definitely noticed a change to the positive since the Dwarf pre-order. That of course seems obvious and predictable, but the rapid Dwarf wave 2, terrain and now this I think have added back any moment lost. I think they’re doing a great job on it, only think they could reasonably do is communicate some things a little better, but that’s always been a challenge for GW, but the ToW team are smashing it.

As an aside, a video tutorial of the Hell Cannon + its rerelease in remastered resin (I can only imagine the nightmare that model in metal was) now means it's an instant buy for me (not sure if I should be thanking you or not, it's already been an expensive few weeks...)
Well you could probably build 2k from that, you could use the old warriors as they are and the new AOS ones as Chosen. You’d probably want to add stuff to make it less one dimensional, but you’ve pretty much got an army.
I made mine from 2 Vanguard boxes and some Darkoat, but all those Warriors you have are worth loads of points.

@@MiniatureRealms I have a bunch of the Warcry Chaos Warbands so they probably could stand in for some Marauders. Maybe the "Old Warriors -> Warriors, New Warriors -> Chosen" trick also works for Chaos Knights? AoS Varanguard are so crazily expensive its not funny anymore...
Using the new stuff as chosen is an excellent idea, if I expand my army I think I may well end up doing that. I’ve made my marauders using the Darkoath stuff, and some Warcry bits that have since gone out of production. The new Darkoath stuff is even better though, it came just after I’d built mine, but I’ll be dipping into that range when I expand.
Hmmmm to be honest this release is a little dull and I think it's because of AOS. Their models are much nicer and just overall look better. If I did do a warriors of chaos army which I don't think I will because I've just done them for AOS i will be using AOS models
Meh, all of those returning models are those horrible modern ones and not much for Made to Order either, disappointing. Hopefully they'll bring out some proper models later on, there's so much unbelievably stunning Chaos models from the 80s and 90s.
I would have liked to see a bit more from the classic ranges. For the main range I prefer the new AOS kits, but I guess this gives people the choice between some slightly cheaper old fantasy options, and using the newer stuff.
@MiniatureRealms Yeah, it's a bit strange, the AOS kits are superior if you want miniatures of a modern style and the returning quite recent kits do not entice oldhammerers like myself. Oh well, I'm sure they will still sell and hopefully they will bring out classics like the Realm of Chaos range later on.
GW is doing the release all wrong. Dragging their feet, no communication, only releasing one faction at a time. It's like they don't want people to actually buy their products or go to the tournaments. Everything they can possibly do to push customers away they do
I can understand the frustration of those eating for their armies. I won’t respond in full here as it would just be too long, but I’ve covered Ona few of my videos som stuff that covers this in more detail. In short, it’s a ‘Specialist Design Studio’ game, there’s two writers and a system manager on this game (the system manager also runs MESBG & Bloodbowl), the miniature designers and painters are likely shared with other SDS games (Necromunda, Heresy, Blood Bowl, MESBG, Adeptus Titanicus, Legions Imperiialis). Essentially a fraction of the number of people who work on 40K, or even AOS for that matter. They simply can’t deliver all the factions in one go, even 40K couldn’t launch 9 full factions in one go. Let alone the factory and logistics couldn’t cope either. So I understand your frustration, and they’ve definitely made mistakes, but unfortunately I don’t think what you’d like to see is realistic.

Chaos and the Dogs of War were my go to back in the 90s. Great seeing how all those old sculpts look like they were just made recently.
It’s amazing what a new paint job and rebasing can do, so good to see them back.

Local stores tend to do pre-orders on TOW stuff, especially the plastics. I’m sure if you ask them they will order what you need in.

It’s really fun to see people blowing the dust off boxes of stuff they’ve had for years, seems people dig stuff out each release.

I'm still recovering financially from all my dwarf purchases, but I would love to have some of this models.
I’m glad I bought the AOS chaos minis for my army, means I can just buy a Hellcannon and maybe a big centrepiece.
I was sure next in line was The Empire or the High Elves, but chaos - I love it!

The Norsca styled army of infamy excites me probably the most. Those werewolves have to be part of that surely?
Chaos minis from yesteryear have held up really well…albeit some of the marauder minis have some goofier biceps etc but I’m sure a careful paint job can do away with a fair bit of that.
Maybe a little bit of a shame of lack of characters but they look to be coming in metal if anything. I have a bunch of old Realm of Chaos metal minis that will work well as characters.
The AOS minis as you rightfully point out will add a huge amount of variety available for the upcoming old world range
I’m excited for the Norsca army as well, that should be loads of fun. I’ll definitely be looking at doing something with that.
I’m so happy to see these back. I LOVE chaos! And I hope you are right that the release schedule seems to be back on track. No more big main studio releases planned as far as I know, so now they can release the good stuff 😎
Though I’ve got to say I’m gutted the Brian Nelson metal knights aren’t coming to MTO. Back to eBay it is!
Let’s hope we get a good run now. The MTO does look a little ‘light’, but i imagine some classics will be lost to time if the moulds/masters aren’t available.

I wonder if they’ve been added to the range lately, or only recently been remoulded and made ready. Definitely unusual for GW though.
Really looking forward to the WOC release, and I agree it feels like momentum has picked up again. Even if WOC take longer to come out, if they keep up with articles, reveals of terrain etc it won’t feel as long.
I was originally planning a WOC army using the S2D range from AOS, but looking at these again I think I’ll actually go for mostly Old World kits with maybe some S2D stuff for characters. Looking forward to your Hellcannon tutorial!
Thank you Thomas. The S2D kits make nice Chosen warriors as they’re slightly larger, if I add any of the older stuff to mine I may use them as such.

Oh yes absolutely. I have to roll with the news cycle a bit, there’s been 7 Epic based videos in the past two months, but it’s been Old World news heavy in the last few weeks.
I have at least two planned for the next few weeks, one hopefully this month.

It’s so nice to see them available again. I was very kindly gifted everything but the hills, half assembled and painted a few months back, could never have afford the eBay prices for them. Going to grab some hills though.

Warriors of Chaos is one of the very few WHFB armies that never interested me. Which is a good thing in this instance, because I'm glad The Old World is (re)growing continuously, but my wallet could use a break after Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, Orcs and Dwarfs all brought (or brought back) models I wanted.
And than I saw the Hellcannon. And of course my Chaos Dwarfs want that Hellcannon. RIP my wallet, you almost got away this time...
I know the feeling well, I have this down as a ‘no further spend’ but the Hellcannon will be a must have.
I just hope they'll update empire troops for the release, warriors of chaos held up great to the test of time, but stare troops look pretty bad for 2024, not tk bad but they are getting close.
I’ll be honest with you, I think there’s zero chance of that happening. The only faction to get new core was Brets, and that’s was part of a new unit and a system release thing.
The last Empire state troops were quite late in the context of many of the returning plastics, 7th edition I think, to replace the ones that came in the 6th edition starter. They were quite modern multi-pose and are generally quite popular I think.
I know some people have converted cities of Sigmar from AOS is you’re looking for something a bit more modern.

I think so many people already are, I imagine they’ve probably factored that in to their sales targets. They were probably the easiest faction to run based on AOS models.

So I started the project as a speed paint, but then halted it when I couldn’t make the game I was painting it for, then Dwarfs were announced and I started working on them.
So they’re all built and ready, airbrushing done, and some other base layers. The plan will be now to go back and finish them and make a big video on it (already have a lot of footage).

Large chunks of Bretonnians are constantly unavailable in the U.S. Heck, GW even canceled and refunded an order for questing knights command months after I saw it in stock and ordered it.
Yeah that’s not good, and I’m not suggesting everything is right, I was careful to say UK webstore, but I feel things might be turning a corner. Stock across all their ranges isn’t right still, and I don’t think it will be fully fixed for a couple of years yet.
Over half of bretonnians stuff is pretty much always out of stock on the Australian website, I’ve been trying to get the resin kits since January
Yeah resins and metals seem to the biggest issue in general, and definitely outside of the UK.

Will models from AoS leave AoS for TOW ? Like the chaos sorcerer, it means they shall make a new model for AoS ?
I’m not sure if I’m honest. I think in most cases they want to completely separate the lines and IP’s. The Dwarfs have now been removed from the cities of Sigmar range, but I think they’re still covered by rules in AOS for Dispossessed? I’m assuming they don’t sell much for AOS, and while some people will buy from the TOw range to use in AOS, they’re just accepting that will have to be the case for a few miniatures while it takes a few years to resolve itself.
You know Games Workshop is creatively bankrupt when all they can do is reuse old moulds. Good stuff though, but then all of the Golden Age GW stuff was.
Not lack of creativity, more the capacity of creatives and production to do more new stuff. They have a lot of games to serve these days, but I’d obviously love to see more new stuff too.
I think it's a bit unfair to judge the success of the Old World based upon the initial lack of releases (I commonly see complaints online equating the lack of releases to GW's supposed lack of interest in supporting this game). I think it's pretty evident from the rash and frequency of product we're now seeing that GW probably had a steady release schedule planned, but had to drop that pretty early on due to a log jam of product (I'm guessing Legion Imperalis being delayed and then the drop of Skaventide meant they did not want to cannibalize their own sales).
I agree 100%, wish more people realised the limitations that SDS have, let alone the wider production and logistics issues.
From a personal point of view I’ve added that commentary because I think it reflects the questions I see in the wider community, and I’ve definitely noticed a change to the positive since the Dwarf pre-order. That of course seems obvious and predictable, but the rapid Dwarf wave 2, terrain and now this I think have added back any moment lost. I think they’re doing a great job on it, only think they could reasonably do is communicate some things a little better, but that’s always been a challenge for GW, but the ToW team are smashing it.

As an aside, a video tutorial of the Hell Cannon + its rerelease in remastered resin (I can only imagine the nightmare that model in metal was) now means it's an instant buy for me (not sure if I should be thanking you or not, it's already been an expensive few weeks...)

No they’re model kits, they’re require painting and assembly like other kits.
Hmm, I have nearly 30 of the old Chaos warriors and got the Vanguard box. How much more would be needed for ToW?
Well you could probably build 2k from that, you could use the old warriors as they are and the new AOS ones as Chosen. You’d probably want to add stuff to make it less one dimensional, but you’ve pretty much got an army.

I made mine from 2 Vanguard boxes and some Darkoat, but all those Warriors you have are worth loads of points.
@@MiniatureRealms I have a bunch of the Warcry Chaos Warbands so they probably could stand in for some Marauders. Maybe the "Old Warriors -> Warriors, New Warriors -> Chosen" trick also works for Chaos Knights? AoS Varanguard are so crazily expensive its not funny anymore...
Using the new stuff as chosen is an excellent idea, if I expand my army I think I may well end up doing that.
I’ve made my marauders using the Darkoath stuff, and some Warcry bits that have since gone out of production. The new Darkoath stuff is even better though, it came just after I’d built mine, but I’ll be dipping into that range when I expand.

Hmmmm to be honest this release is a little dull and I think it's because of AOS. Their models are much nicer and just overall look better. If I did do a warriors of chaos army which I don't think I will because I've just done them for AOS i will be using AOS models
I can imagine if you’ve already done them for AOS then much of this range would seem a bit dull, I’m certainly happy with the AOS versions I’ve used.
Meh, all of those returning models are those horrible modern ones and not much for Made to Order either, disappointing. Hopefully they'll bring out some proper models later on, there's so much unbelievably stunning Chaos models from the 80s and 90s.
I would have liked to see a bit more from the classic ranges. For the main range I prefer the new AOS kits, but I guess this gives people the choice between some slightly cheaper old fantasy options, and using the newer stuff.
@MiniatureRealms Yeah, it's a bit strange, the AOS kits are superior if you want miniatures of a modern style and the returning quite recent kits do not entice oldhammerers like myself. Oh well, I'm sure they will still sell and hopefully they will bring out classics like the Realm of Chaos range later on.
GW is doing the release all wrong. Dragging their feet, no communication, only releasing one faction at a time. It's like they don't want people to actually buy their products or go to the tournaments. Everything they can possibly do to push customers away they do
I can understand the frustration of those eating for their armies. I won’t respond in full here as it would just be too long, but I’ve covered Ona few of my videos som stuff that covers this in more detail.
In short, it’s a ‘Specialist Design Studio’ game, there’s two writers and a system manager on this game (the system manager also runs MESBG & Bloodbowl), the miniature designers and painters are likely shared with other SDS games (Necromunda, Heresy, Blood Bowl, MESBG, Adeptus Titanicus, Legions Imperiialis). Essentially a fraction of the number of people who work on 40K, or even AOS for that matter. They simply can’t deliver all the factions in one go, even 40K couldn’t launch 9 full factions in one go. Let alone the factory and logistics couldn’t cope either.
So I understand your frustration, and they’ve definitely made mistakes, but unfortunately I don’t think what you’d like to see is realistic.
