Mmmmmm.... 10:1 is normally great and you did nothing wrong. However the sea always teaches us lessons so from tomorrow, it will be 15:1. In any event, to have only dragged 50 feet is a great effort. Next time, during the blow, let out more chain. More and more chain on the ground makes the best anchor. Easier than having to pull up the anchor during a storm and then re-anchor. You guys did a great job and should be commended! Lots of love.

The standard WD-40 "is not" conductive... A must have is the WD-40 Electrical Contact Cleaner!!! It cleans and leaves no residue and is conductive : )

Reminds me of the song "Riding the storm out." That is part of the price you pay for all the great things you get to enjoy and share with us. Glad the bimini did not take a hit. Keep on keeping on! Fair winds and following seas!

We got hit like that while anchored at Big Major's Spot at Staniel Cay in 2016. We've never put our rail in the water sailing, but one of the wind gusts that day did put the rail in the water. We cranked our engine to stay in place and watched a mega-yacht drag by heading straight for pig beach. They got it under control just before hitting bottom I'm sure, and when they motored by us all the crew was on the foredeck and looked scared as hell. Afterwards, we had to get in the dingy and go retrieve all our stuff that blew off the boat and floated to the beach! Enjoyed your video!

You mention that you anchor with scope 10:1.
Was it only with chain, or did you also use a snubber, was the snubber of nylon and how long was it??

Changing the name of a boat is considered bad luck in the sea going world. What i read anyway, The Sea Will Tell book by Vince Bugliosi. Buck was told it was bad luck but changed the name anyway. edit If you are superstitiious, google black pearl and hoop ear ring. If you run into trouble you can trade Poseidon a black pearl for your life. A hoop ear ring, Neptune will rescue you from the water. Some woman wrote a book about surviving a shipwreck in the Trashman yacht (owned by a millionaire in waste industry) She bought a necklace with a black pearl embedded in a hoop ear ring. She also throwed it in the water and lived to tell her story. One other lived. 3 others died.
