    Excellent work on a very handsome boat!! This is one of the finest looking sailing canoe designs I have ever seen. I hope you will post some reports and videos of your sailing experiences. I would expect the boat might be rather tender going to weather, but that comes with the territory with sailing canoes. Where do you plan to sail it??

      I plan to upload some sailing content over this summer. Currently I am sailing on a little lake in Luxembourg (called "lac de la haute Sure"; it's tiny) but I also plan to take the Waterlust for weekend trips to the constance lake and the baltic sea when I know the boat a bit better.

    • @elltielle
      @elltielle  Před 2 lety

      Hi Guy,
      I saw your recent videos, all looking very good. I'm not sailing a lot lately sadly, I got a lot of work to do and always have to drive about 1h to get to the lake... (crying smiley).
      I was on the water only once this year in disgusting wind with a boat of a friend, I helped him to re-do all of his hardware and ropes.
      In winter I repaired a Fireball I got for free after it fell over on land during a storm, I had to partially replace the deck. It's fixed now and on the lake, I'm yet to take it out for her first sail after the repairs, still not sure if I keep it or try to sell it.
      You live close to the water, right? How long does it take you to get from your house to the sea (or is it a lake?)
      Best regards, Lukas

    • @elltielle
      @elltielle  Před 3 lety

      Pretty well, I can't compare it to other sailing canoes though because I never sailed one before. It's very different to a "normal" cruising dinghy, but I got uesd to it pretty fast.
      The option to have two masts/onemast-no reef/-one reef/-two reefs or no mast at all and paddle it makes it very adaptable to the wind, thats very nice.

    Great canoe. It's possible to sleep in?

    • @elltielle
      @elltielle  Před 3 lety

      Yes it is (if you're not the tallest person). I am 1,75m, I can lay down inside the boat and even have room to turn around. (I'm not sure how long the area is, but I could mesure it for you if you are interested)
      I wouldn't sleep on the water though (risk of capsizing in a wave), but on a beach it should be okay. A little tent would fit inside the trunk too.

    • @viniyung
      @viniyung Před 3 lety

      @@elltielle Thanks. Won't be necessary to measure, i was just curious. Here, in Brazil, the cost for the kit would be impracticable. But, David Gentry has plans for one sailing canoe that maybe fit the bill. I think that in a quiet harbour you can sleep into the water. You just need to give a try.

    For your own safety, please wear a proper doublez-filter pro face mask when sanding and dealing with fiberglass and epoxy, plus ideally working on a well ventilated room. Nice work!

    • @elltielle
      @elltielle  Před 2 lety

      Hi Peter, sorry. I didn't see your comment.
      I bought an actual double-filter-face-mask recently (primairlily for spray-paint-jobs) and also wear it now when I'm sanding. I have to admit, it really helps a lot better than those FFP2 masks, should have gone for it earlier, I can only agree with you.

      Thank you :)
      I am not sure about that, I currently only sailed it on a little lake.
      With only one sail at two reefs it was well manageable in high winds, but we don't have waves on that lake so I can't say something about that.

      @elltielle  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, I don't have a scale large enough to weigh the boat, so I'm not a 100% sure. On their website CLC claims 115 lbs. hull weight.
      If you know a simple solution for getting the weight of a boat please let me know, I'm interested in the total weight too.

      Oi Henrique. A canoa Waterlust foi feita pensada no Everglades Challenge e o time Waterlust gostou do resultado. Canoas à vela tam bom rendimento em mar aberto, mas exigem velejadores com mais experiência. Nada que um bom tempo nela não resolva. Outra solução é acoplar flutuadores laterais e no site do CLC eles mostram ela com flutuadores. Infelizmente eles só vendem o Kit, o que no Brasil sairia uma fortuna, mas existem outros projetos de canoas à vela disponíveis na Web, é só pesquisar.

      @@viniyung boa tarde. Esse é justamente meu dilema. Um barco pequeno a vdla para mar aberto. Lógico que não pretendo chegar até a África, mas também não quero ficar na beira da praia. Procuro um barco que tenha bom desempenho na água agitatada. Aí temos o dilema de peso x resistência. Já pensei em construir o barco "proa" , mas parece que fica pesado. E ainda tem a questão de como fixar a ama para não quebrar em águas mais agitadas. Você tem alguma sugestão?
