- Welcome to our full review of the Atelier Performance Cruiser by Hayden Cox of Hayden Shapes Surfboards - a great alternative for someone looking at the Hypto Krypto, or other fun and easy to perform boards for all surfers.
I have been riding this as the stock 6'0 x 21 3/4 x 2 3/4 - 42L
The Haydenshapes Atelier Performance Cruiser is our original Cruiser’s cousin that rips. A perfect full volumed, stable shortboard crafted for all round surfing, the Performance Cruiser is made of traditional PU polyester materials and features a single concave throughout the board for maximum speed and lift. With a balanced profile to bring enough forward volume, this incredibly fun shape ensures you can still find the performance and sensitivity within the design on every wave, for all skill level of surfer.
SKILL LEVEL - Beginner to Intermediate
The Performance Cruiser is crafted for beginner to intermediate level surfers, but leans more toward the latter-or beginners that are leveling up and really starting to perform. Our smaller dims and volume options in the Performance Cruiser illustrate this.
CONDITIONS - All-Around Conditions
The Performance Cruiser is a solid, user-friendly shortboard model designed to catch all types of waves. Its single concave and balanced profile can also work perfectly for surfers in more advanced waves and conditions.
SUITABLE WAVE FACES - Flat to 2-ft Overhead
From grovelly beach breaks to punchier reefs and point breaks, the Performance Cruiser excels in a variety of wave sizes.
In the Atelier Performance Cruiser I have been using the Futures Fins Haydenshapes HS1 thruster fins.

The HS1 Generation Series, designed by Hayden Cox of Haydenshapes, is a large sized thruster in the Pivot template category.
The Gen Series features a Futures’ V2-Foil for responsiveness, and a unique blend of uni-directional carbon and fiberglass for a more stable flex pattern. Similar feel to Blackstix, but a bit more subtle for those just transitioning onto foiled fins.

Looking into getting one of these, I’m 5’9 about 215/98 kg. Would the 6’8 be too big as my first step down to shorter boards? Normally ride egg shapes 7-7’6 50+L. I know some boards too oversized just don’t work.

Hey! You could go almost any size from the 5’8 up - but maybe similar to mine at around 6’0 is a good balance of paddle power and maneuverability ✌️
Thanks for the review! For someone who’s progressing their surfing like you mentioned at around 10:57, would you recommend this model or a reasonably sized hypo?
I’m 5’9 150 lbs and my current board is a 6’0 egg, around 37L.
Either would be fine - the Hytpo is going to be more sensitive, especially off the back foot with that round/pin tail!
Hey, I am definitely interested in this board as someone who is progressing into a shorter board. I am 5’ 8” at 150lbs. My only concern is that it might be a little too much volume for me at 150lbs. How much do u think this would affect my performance turning in the water? Or do u think I could get away with it and just enjoy the extra paddle power ? Also what board would u compare

You just don’t want to be coming from too big a board/foam as you’ll struggle with the jump…
Just discovered you great vids! Also checked out the G-skate vid and I am torn between the two boards of what to get... I'm 6'2 weigh 90kgs and beginner / intermediate surfer who is looking for extra volume to get into the wave early. Any advice on which one to go?
This is so easy to surf - so if you're looking for something with volume to get into waves early and is easy to surf, this might be hard to pass up...
Where did the fin recommendation come from? I ask because when I spoke to a guy a HS, he suggested an F6 Medium for this board, not the HS1 Gen.
Any advice on making the call on which fins?
Hey! Either should be good, I’d recommend the HS1 for maybe a more advanced surfer or if you want a speed generating fin ✌️
Can you please do a review of the DHD interceptor?

Same - it was a pleasant suprise. While I thought it was more for the beginner/intermediate surfer, I think it also holds a nice little spot in the quiver for intermediate/advanced surfers who want a performance cruiser… ✌️
Great review! Im 5’10 150lbs, i feel the 6’0 at 42 liters is too much foam for me and I wont be able to turn that well. they are sold out of the 5’10 at 39 liters. Would the 5’8 at 35 liters be too small you think?

@@TheSurfboardGuide I'd like to. At 42 litres it sounds very chunky for a 6'0". How do you find it compared to the sub 30 litre boards you ride? I'm amazed they can pack that much volume into a 6'0"! Seems to flow fine tho?
@@patrickyoung2106 very different to a normal 6’0 shorty I’d ride, but surprisingly you can still throw it around and do some decent surfing on it, plus it paddles and flows between sections like a dream ✌️

Isn't that just a Chinese GSI modern highline with HS logos, all the dims are exact. Wouldn't surprise me..
Hey! Not sure what that board is but, I do know that Hayden and GSI haven’t done boards together for many years as he moved any offshore production to Surftech, and now is managing this himself.

Sure looks like one to me but maybe a slightly finer nose. I actually have one that I call my mini mal and it's fun.
One word dude...Eeek! That is the funkiest thing ive ever seen. Nice salmon spray...you looked way more stylish on the mid than you did on this monstrosity. This thing fills a void between shortboard and mid that should remain empty.
