Who could have ever imagined that the actual lyrics of this song talk about troubled youth, dead friends & family? This melody sounds way too happy for such lyrics :-)
Mark Foster explained the song's meaning to Spinner UK: "'Pumped Up Kicks' is about a kid that basically is losing his mind and is plotting revenge. He's an outcast. I feel like the youth in our culture are becoming more and more isolated. It's kind of an epidemic. Instead of writing about victims and some tragedy, I wanted to get into the killer's mind, like Truman Capote did in In Cold Blood. I love to write about characters. That's my style. I really like to get inside the heads of other people and try to walk in their shoes." Foster says he considered writing the song from the perspective of the victim, but felt that would be a cop out. He also points out that there is no actual violence in the song, as the threats are all the kid's internal monologue.

Everyone talks about this having an “inspirational and freeing feel” which I can see where they are coming from but I get a feeling of “watching everything around you becoming so corrupt that you don’t see yourself anymore”.
I’ll stand by it, I think Foster the People did a fantastic job at capturing the emotion left behind by the incident. Melancholy, eerie, disillusioned, somehow the music just fits so well. I’m not sure how to explain it, sorry if this sounds cringe

I was used to hear this song in the mall, i didnt knew the meaning yet, so it catches my ear and then i searched it for weeks and i found it yesterday
i was playing my playlist while distracted and was really confused when no one started singing lmao
Everyone talks about this having an “inspirational and freeing feel” which I can see where they are coming from but I get a feeling of “watching everything around you becoming so corrupt that you don’t see yourself anymore”.
Loving the columbine vibe
yikes
My jaw DROPPED
Uwu
There is no columbine vibe
One of the songs where the Instrumental is better than the lyrics itself
very inspirational
The happy instrumental is a perfect pairing with the not-so-happy lyrics
HEY NOW

1:02 (🎶This is where you die!🎶)
Never gets old just like scho-
I’ll stand by it, I think Foster the People did a fantastic job at capturing the emotion left behind by the incident. Melancholy, eerie, disillusioned, somehow the music just fits so well. I’m not sure how to explain it, sorry if this sounds cringe
When the well lubricated slide just goes back and forth...🙉
That sounded very sexual lol
Excellent rendition, sir. =PSH
When you get a back to school ad before the video
Ima turn this up watch 🤞🏾 whole different meaning to it
2021✨

Here you go.
Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, he won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette, hanging out his mouth he's a cowboy kid
Yeah found a six shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden oh in a box of fun things, I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
And say your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
