The stealth 100 was the first amp I found that truly made me able to retire my block letter 5150. I haven't used the peavey to jam or track guitars ever since I bought the 100w stealth, it's just a back up now. The blue channel pushed with a boost is the high gain tone I was chasing out of my 5150 for years. They're very similar sounding, but I prefer the more tamed upper mids(less honk or cocked wah) of the stealth and the stealth is just tighter and has more string separation under high gain that I love, like really rich harmonically. It's just an outright incredible amp for modern high gain tones.
I have to agree ! It's the best I've ever had ! I would say the 2nd best was my old peavey 5150212 combo with Reverb ! I guess that's what Eddie's favorite of the peavey amps was !
Biggest regret is not getting that snofall while I had the chance, such a beautiful guitar, killer amp too, been a fan since embers \m/ you guys are why I'm a guitarist 15+ years.

I absolutely love that you are doing gear reviews. You should try the new Soldano SLO 30 and the Friedman BE100 Deluxe. Maybe the Friedman isn't heavy enough for Trivium's music, but it's still an amazing hot rodded Plexi dream that feels super good under the fingers.
I I've owned this head for about a year going into a Mesa traditional 412. The amount of gain this this amp has is insane... I usually run mine about 3.5-4. It's ballsy
It’s a great sound and a road worthy beast. Should serve you well. I’m using Diezel Herbert which has a great channel 3. At least my neighbors say so ;). Be safe, man and God bless.
Matt, dude, this tone is massive!!! I have the EL34 tube version and love it...all of their amps sound amazing. And yeah, the blue channel sounds great with an overdrive in front for that classic tone but the red channel needs nothing! It's just pure brutal!
I dont understand why anybody would put a overdrive pedal in front of this great amp head ,I would understand if it was a solid state amp but the fact that the tubes are the engine that runs this makes no sense
@@rocksteady6448 I’m with you regarding the red channel. That channel needs no overdrive (in fact an OD really takes away from its natural tone). However, the blue channel, and again, I’m talking about my EL34, it set up to have that classic hard rock and heavy metal tone, so the OD for that specific channel can tighten things up a bit. But that’s why I love the EL34 version of this amp - it’s so versatile.

You demo this so good. I was on the fence about buying this but I think I'll get it. It sounds heavy! I think it will help with making more interesting guitar videos on my channel!
Consider trying the EL34, they didn't just tube swap, but modified it so the gain has way more headroom and flexibility. My biggest complaint was the 6L6 stealth doesn't have a ton of usable range on the knobs. I A/B'd them and sent the 6L6 packing. Better clean channel, more bass without being flubby, and way more tameable mids/top end.
Oh absolutely. I hate active pickups and I feel like I hate them even more on my EVHs. Like it makes the guitars completely unplayable until I can swap the pickups. Too fizzy and harsh and shrill.
@@AD1978leoit's possibly a little meaner sound than Mesa 412. The Mesa over sized 412 is like the best cabinet in my opinion, but load With EVH signature speakers instead of V30.
I love these amps! I just got the 50 watt stealth and its insane! I eventually will get the 100 stealth which I can imagine will be more insane! Great Demo Matt!
The ONE downside to the footprint of these 50w EVHs is that the resonance is on the back of the head. If you are running any sort of the drop tuning you WILL need to A/B that setting along with the bass setting to get it dialed in.
I have the 50 watt versions of the EL34 and 6L6. I may need to add this one too. Does seem voiced a bit different. I have to boost channel two on the other versions in order to get what I like but maybe this one might change that. Very interesting. Great video! \m/

Hey Matt! How do you find the clean sound on it? I bought the non stealth 50w version because my understanding was these wouldn't get the most crystal clear clean tone, more a pushed clean. Thoughts? Sounds heavy as shit!
I had one for a year. The red channel was unusable, even without a boost. The blue channel boosted was phenomenal. The green channel was only clean with the gain below 2, which I found kinda strange. I stupidly traded it for a VHT Pittbull last December and regretted it. I sold that, and now I have a Peavey Invective that I absolutely love. Now to find a Mesa Boogie Mark series to pair with it.
This amp really, really wants lower gain tubes. 12AY7 specifically. I put three of them in mine and the clean channel is clean now. The entire sweep of the gain pot is usable now. You still get full saturation on higher settings if needed.

Well, to be fair...a proper venue will mic up the cab so in that case you could bring a 5w if you wanted to. But if you did do that, I suggest bringing your own mic in case the venue doesn't have any.

Yea hey we're putting together the 5150 III Stealth Amp unbox tab together right now, lets put some bass and drums and some gore checks in there...yea perfect....
Try the NS-2 using it in front and the fx loop. Any thing in front to the input. NS-2 send to amp input, amp send to NS-2 return. Amp return gets the NS-2 output. No hiss. I use a Para EQ at the loop and Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 direct out drive stereo fx and amps. This method made my Mesa Nomad100 quiet.
While I haven't tried the stealth, I have tried the regular 5150 III and the EL34 version. Both sounded good, just not for me. I do prefer the 50W version better of the regular 5150 III. But, I will also say the EVH 5150 III > Peavey 5150. So much easier to dial in, and doesn't need anything in front of it to get a good tone
Imo, i still prefer the peavey built 5150 style amps. Relative to the evh builds, they are less compressed, more open and less plastic sounding in the upper mids. With this said, I can certainly respect how many many also prefer the 5153.... Cheers for your demo.
I played all amp sims for years, searching and fiddling to find a perfect tone. Then when I could finally afford a 5150 III after so many years of playing, I plugged it in, turned it on, started playing, and it was the tone I had always been looking for. I thought, “Damn, that was easy.”
There's something about the midrange on the EVH amps that I don't care for. This is probably the best I've heard, but still something odd there. Almost sounds modeled or something. Might be time to try one out again in person.
I own this amp and I can tell you that the mid-range control has to be adjusted with care it is unlike any other amp I have ever owned, if you push the mids too hard it can get an almost cocked wah type sound but that is easily dialed out.
The 333XL CAN be a decent amp, however, if anything goes wrong with it, good luck getting Bugera to actually do anything. I'm almost a month into a nightmare fight with them trying to get them to actually fix my brand new 333XL(I've played it MAYBE 5 hours since purchase in February and it looks like the Infinium system is already fried. They'll just keep ignoring you until you go away. And don't even get me started on their actually customer service "skills". Obviously your mileage may vary, but that's the situation they've stuck me in at the moment.
Ironically enough, however, if it turns out they can't fix it, this exact amp is the one I'll be buying. Sadly to a certain extent, you absolutely get what you pay for. The 333XL, at almost half the price of the 5150 Stealth, is probably going to show the areas they axed to cut costs.

I'm curious how a 7-string would sound through it. They both sound fantastic, but the stealth has, as you said, has an excellent mid-range to it.
I play 7-strings through my EVH and it sounds just as great. Good 7 string pickups help though!

50w evh 5150 stealth + ts808 + Mesa 412 + les Paul equipped emg 81/85 combo = the opposite of Ned Stark’s execution.
Very nice. I'm running EVH 50 Stealth, Marshall 1960 412 ( V30s ) HX Effects 4cm and an LTD Iron Cross with the EMG Het Set.

It's not Peavey. EVH 5150 iii is through Fender. Peavey 5150 stopped after the ii when Eddie left. 6505 & 6505+ is the renamed Peavey 5150.
There is a reason why it hard to find 100 watt 5153s used. I have the original 100w version. In the room, it sounds fantastic.

They'll just keep ignoring you until you go away. And don't even get me started on their actually customer service "skills". Obviously your mileage may vary, but that's the situation they've stuck me in at the moment.
Ironically enough, however, if it turns out they can't fix it, this exact amp is the one I'll be buying. Sadly to a certain extent, you absolutely get what you pay for. The 333XL, at almost half the price of the 5150 Stealth, is probably going to show the areas they axed to cut costs.

@@auntjenifer7774 you’re right. I could have. Thankfully I didn’t get either. My Stealth is not the Stealth 50. It’s the LBX Stealth I ended up purchasing to replace it. And a Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 40 Deluxe. Never said I bought a Stealth in my comments from 2 years ago either.
