WTF!! How can a live version sound better than a studio?? That's called true talent. As time passes through you realize how lucky we all were to grow up in my opinion the greatest influential music of a life time. 08/21/2022. Music is a virtual time machine.
It was very common at the time to overdub some parts to make it sound perfect. Another common practice was to record two or more dates at the same location (but in many cases also at different locations - see Live After Death for example) and choose the best take for release
What's amazing about Geoff Tate is People thought he was a tenor! What is also amazing is GEOFF TATE'S unique phrasing! His voice was pure Power! It's amazing the high notes he could hit in full voice without falsetto
I've been singing griff tates songs since I was 16 years old. Bought a cassette in 89 and it had only 4 songs on it,took me 4 to 5 months to get the voice level right, now I just sing the songs when I'm somewheres along, wife says my voice level is just to high, then she heard the song:in the eyes of a stranger that I was singing she looked at me and told me dam you sound just like him, call him up and get a deal going, but the virus is in town....no can do for now.
I bought this cassette when it came out, I played it in my car so much, it died and I bought another one and I still have it and I still can play it on my old home stereo. One of my favorite albums of all times. Love all of it.
The songs from this concert are in my opinion, the best live performance I have ever seen from a metal vocalist. He truly sounds like the albums and he f’ing hits EVERY note effortlessly. One of the greats of all time for sure. Too bad a bit underappreciated
Apparently Geoff was originally a drummer, when someone heard him sing, they told him to go get vocal training, and the rest is history. He still kept up with the training even after he joined Queensryche. He then told Chris Degarmo and the other guys to do it as well. That's why they are always awesome live.
Piano and sax, not drummer. He was hosting his friend's band at his grandmother's house in Redmond and then when the band was trying to learn Rush's 2112 he started singing along, which led to them urging him to sing for them since their original singer had left.
Spent my high school years rocking out to this band. They are one of the greatest of all times. There’s NOTHING like the 80’s music, be it pop, rock or hard rock. It was the last age of TRUE artists.
Saw them open up for Kiss in the mid 80's. Just unbelievable. When Kiss came on, my buddy and I listened to a couple of songs and left. We had already seen the headliner.
THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER IS QUEENSRYCHE LIVE IN TOKYO HANDS DOWN..THE WARNING ALBUM IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL VOCALS EVER!! GEOFF TATE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT A VOCAL GOD.
Omg!...This song is pure bliss. It doesn't get any better than this folks. Love the energy of this performance. It's an amazing display if musical power.
My first introduction to this band was from Steve Harris. He was always championing them in interviews given to the press like Kerrang! Back when it was a real community of fans and musicians riding a wave.
This and Mindcrime are my 2 favorite albums for sure. I just actually ordered the CD and I'm picking it up tomorrow! I'm so excited. Can you believe that this was only their 2nd concert ever? ? Geoff Tate singing like a beast! He's amazing with his 4 octave vocal range! I love this concert!
Spot on bro. Not sure when you caught them live but empire, promised land, OM1, tribe days they sounded incredible. This is the first song I heard from QR and I was hooked. Never looked back😎
It's so funny you have modern singers that have to use auto tune or lip sync to mediocre garbage pop and rap tracks.... and here is Geoff singing live to ridiculously hard notes and nailing them effortlessly.
This band had it all. The dynamic, theatric lead singer with unmatched 5 octave range and not one, but TWO lead guitarists That could EACH hold their own! And the fantastic drummer who is top of his class. Scott was doing things in the eighties with hard driving tom syncopations and one of the first guys to use the Chinese cymbal a a full time staple in songs.
This album came out in 1984. Some songs are based on Orwell´s novel. Any coincidence? I don´t know. For me the best album from the year. And we´re talking about a time that Maiden released "Powerslave" and Metallica "Ride the Lightining". This is a truly a old school metal album. And what is incredible about QR is that they never repeat an album. They bring us some progressive sound every new work. Until Promised Land everything is valuable as gold
The Warning is by far the best Queensryche album ever IMO of course. I am old enough to remember when Queen of the Reich came out. The Warning was always in my tape player.
+Narain Vedartham The Warning is the 2nd best album from 1984. Merciful Fate released a little gem called Don't Break The Oath that same year. I'm still not sure which album is better: PowerSlave or Defenders Of The Faith, but I do prefer DBTO and The Warning. WASP's debut was pretty great, too...
A lot of fans got really pissed off when this album released because it was not "metal" like the self titled EP (I was not one of them). It took me a listen or two to begin to really appreciate it. There is so much depth to this album it is astounding. The intricacies of the guitar work, the mood Geoff helps create, etc. It still amazes me to this day.
Back then I was 16 years old and I became a fan of the band. This was and is pure heavy metal. U.S Heavy Metal. Heavy metal with progressive overtones to Empire, which is softer. Then everything ended...
This is the kind of shit that I'm glad I never heard until AFTER I had become a vocalist in a rock band. 🤣💯 Because, otherwise, I probably would have said to myself 'Nope... Can't do THAT. Guess I'll start looking into selling life insurance, or renting wedding tuxedos, or something'. 🤣🤣🤣💯
I seen Michael Wilton and Eddy Jackson this past week or so playing in Ft Myers. Those guy still got it. So glad to see them it's been almost 30 years. We all have aged but dam the still rock.
Fuckin awesome classic album. Alot of people won't listen to the first couple of album's. Queensryche, The Warning, and Rage For Order all Dictate how they would become Metal /Rock Legends. Truly a learning experience for someone who wants to establish themselves into the Rock World!
apart from the length of some vocals and how epic the high note in the solo was live (as well as how strong the note during the 'see' at 3:11 was.) not really.
AllOutWar5000and1 - Music News, Rants, Reviews I'm not certain either although this certainly was different from the album version. I think however that his 'attempt' at 'Take hold of the flame' from this same set displays how live this likely is. Don't get me wrong, he certainly got there on many of the notes but there were a few very painful cracks throughout the performance.
There are some studio overdubs throughout on this performance, they've admitted that in the past. But there are plenty 100% live performances from this era on CZcams and they're really not too far off.
Fucking memories.....I was on vacation with my family in California. Age: 13. Before we set off to Disneyland I was watching a local music video channel there on the hotel TV. No, not MTV. Anyway, this video came on and I was hooked. Scott Rockenfield's drum solo intro got my attention. Upon returning to Albuquerque, I had no way of "sharing" the video. I just had to explain the awesomeness and find the music on cassette. Me and 2 of my best friends got to meet them when they were here on tour for their Rage For Order tour. They were opening for Ozzy. Got their autographs and was so hyped. My best friends and I followed their carriers until we got burnt out on a promo copy of "Empire" I got months before the album officially was released. And then they blew up in popularity ("Silent Lucidity" blows). Some bands are better when they're just outside of the spotlight...
One of my faves!!! This was the original video I remember seeing back in 1983 on Vusic channel 21 in Las Vegas. I have not seen or heard this version since 1985. Thanks to whoever posted it!!!
GEOFF TATE IS A TRUE METAL GOD,🤘 TRULY ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE VOICES EVER! HIM AND JOHN PATRICK MACDONALD (MIDNIGHT) ARE TWO OF MY FAVORITES🤘AND HALFORD OF COURSE 🤘DIO,STU BLOCK,BRUCE DICKINSON, JOSEPH MICHAEL,WADE BLACK,MATT BARLOW,TIM RIPPER OWENS.
I don’t believe these guys really know how great they were. My all time favorite band.
Words cannot express how great this album(The Warning) is.Classic performance here as well.
I agree. Actually my favorite album believe it not.
You can feel their musical hunger that they were trying to show the world.
Scott Rockenfield became my 2nd favorite drummer because of this album, behind Mr. Neil Peart.
Absolutely THE GREATEST VOCALIST OF MY LIFE TIME.
My god! His vocal power is amazing
Best vocalist in the world!!!
WTF!! How can a live version sound better than a studio?? That's called true talent. As time passes through you realize how lucky we all were to grow up in my opinion the greatest influential music of a life time. 08/21/2022. Music is a virtual time machine.
Absolutely 💯..
The only version I listen to #unbelievable
I love live versions when they are good, but this is next level !
It was very common at the time to overdub some parts to make it sound perfect. Another common practice was to record two or more dates at the same location (but in many cases also at different locations - see Live After Death for example) and choose the best take for release
Porque es Queensryche ❤️🔥.
@@fcancyeah even without extra editing they are still better live than in the studio
No lips syncing going on here folks...just a true vocalist
@AMJ awesome!!!!
YEEEAAHHHHHH.....
He's not alone
This is easily in the top 5 best live performances of all time!
What's amazing about Geoff Tate is People thought he was a tenor! What is also amazing is GEOFF TATE'S unique phrasing! His voice was pure Power! It's amazing the high notes he could hit in full voice without falsetto
Actually Geoff was a baritone, he always sang in the upper register.
@@garybecker5851Bro, Geoff Tate it's not a baritone. Are you nuts??
I have to Thank my ex for introducing me to Queensryche. Glad I can appreciate their musical contributions and Geoff's vocal talents. 😎😎😎😎
vocals are amazing
Band lost part of its signature when Chris DeGarmo left. They were awesome in the 80's!!!
He was a HUGE loss...
Devastating loss
hey, when did they tour with metallica?
They toured with just about everyone. Everyone that mattered that is
best in "91
I was fortunate to see them once in 1985 and twice in 1986 at the top of his game imo!! Wow I miss those days.
I was 11 years old in 1984,Dreaming of being Geoff when I grew up.
Seeing in anfra red?
Better take voice Lesson from Professional Vocal Coach, I know some Seriously Professional Vocal Coach

HANDSDOWN THE BEST RYCHE ALBUM ..MINDCRIME CLOSE THO....FREAKN KICKASS
The songs from this concert are in my opinion, the best live performance I have ever seen from a metal vocalist. He truly sounds like the albums and he f’ing hits EVERY note effortlessly. One of the greats of all time for sure. Too bad a bit underappreciated
I seen that in person and it was just amazing
And one of the best recordings in terms of audio fidelity, the engineer and the rig must have had a day in their lives for that
The Warning is my personal favorite of theirs. Geoff almost sounds better than the studio version. Especially on Child of Fire.
Apparently Geoff was originally a drummer, when someone heard him sing, they told him to go get vocal training, and the rest is history. He still kept up with the training even after he joined Queensryche. He then told Chris Degarmo and the other guys to do it as well. That's why they are always awesome live.

The one who was a drummer before joining Queensryche on vocals (firstly joining Crimson Glory), was Todd la Torre, their current vocalist.
Scott Rockenfield is really good drummer
Damn right my brother!!

Thanks for correcting me, I mis-read an article back in the day or my brain is screwed up from loud music and head- banging. 😂
Spent my high school years rocking out to this band. They are one of the greatest of all times. There’s NOTHING like the 80’s music, be it pop, rock or hard rock. It was the last age of TRUE artists.
I miss Geoff so much, he will always be m greatest inspiration as a singer
Saw them open up for Kiss in the mid 80's. Just unbelievable. When Kiss came on, my buddy and I listened to a couple of songs and left. We had already seen the headliner.
A truly phenomenal vocalist! Wow

best drummer.
What an AWESOME song and performance. Absolutely incredible......Need I say more?
Holy crap this sounds better than the studio version, vocals are perfectly accurate to the album version
What an unbelievable performance!!!
THE ONE AND ONLY QRYCHE 💕
perhaps the best live band ever....stunning....
Metal Gods! !
THis guys are amazing even after all these years.
I have purchased this album in one form or another at least five times since 1984. One of my favorites of all time.
Look how hard these guys are working! If you aren’t impressed by this then something is really wrong with you.
My first introduction to this band was from Steve Harris. He was always championing them in interviews given to the press like Kerrang! Back when it was a real community of fans and musicians riding a wave.
These guys went to Tokyo on there Demo "Queensryche"Geoff said there album is coming out next month! THE WARNING which makes this Heavy Metal history!
I was just thinking that. They were touring off of the EP, 4 songs. Incredible talent and vision. Thinking man's metal.
I was thinking the same. 🙂
Yeah that's a fact, I saw concert on VHS a couple months before The Warning was released in the US.
I bought the tape when it came out..
I never knew this song rang so true, and with such urgency, today!!!!! !!!!!!
who would have known when this album came out the greatness that would become 'Ryche....? imagine a world with no 'Ryche... dont want to!!!
Unmatched vocals, guitars and one of the most under-rated drummers of all time! Scott Rockenfield.
My Aunt used to Party with Queensryche when they would play in clubs since she lived in the next town over.
Oh, this was the soundtrack to my adolescence! This brings back the smell of my sister's D&D manuals and the leather bag with the multi-sided dice.
Always put on a better live performance than recording studio takes. I've only seen them three times but always brought the house down.
Spot on bro. Not sure when you caught them live but empire, promised land, OM1, tribe days they sounded incredible. This is the first song I heard from QR and I was hooked. Never looked back😎
I saw mindcrime when I was 10 and was blown the fuck away
Such a fcking awesome song...I remember when this was released. Was such an awesome time to be alive
"It's called WARNIIINGGGG". I like how they did that.😍
Sextina Aquafina YES!!!
It's so funny you have modern singers that have to use auto tune or lip sync to mediocre garbage pop and rap tracks.... and here is Geoff singing live to ridiculously hard notes and nailing them effortlessly.
Greatest live debut ever 👍
True. Saw QR open for them on the Justice tour. QR had the crowd screaming for more. It was like two headliners.
Dat voice!
Una de las voces mas impresionantes que escuchado en mi vida estoy flipando
Judging by their looks, you'd think he'd be singing about women and heartbreaks but their lyrics were far more conceptual than their contemporaries.
This band had it all. The dynamic, theatric lead singer with unmatched 5 octave range and not one, but TWO lead guitarists That could EACH hold their own! And the fantastic drummer who is top of his class. I still liked Promised Land. But after that they lost their edge. Until the new vocalist took over the helm.

Karmak S. Kaufmann the most under rated drummer in the world! Seen them three times. He is a beast!

it's very sad that Geoff is not with them . I love his voise , and the only reason I listen to them .
