  • There's a new bar trigger pad on the scene, the HXM NL-1, poised as a cheaper alternative to the Roland BT-1 trigger pad. Here is my review of how the HXM NL-1 stacks up against other single-trigger electronic drum pads.

      Well maybe only buying 1 if I can’t get the mount screws/L-rod mounts, I have pd-120, then all pdx-8’s…….. always has to be a catch!

    Nice video, Luke. They could have one-upped Roland by including something to prevent the snare lug from loosening over time. I've had to 3D print a cap for the lug holding my BT-1 in place to prevent is from coming loose.

    Bought a pair of these off the back of this review and they work great. One problem I have found is that they don't mount on my Pearl cast hoops, without removing all the rubber spacers, and then they false trigger when you hit a tom. As they don't come with the adaptor like the Roland ones do, you can't mount them on a boom arm etc.

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad they work well for you! Shame to hear about the hoops - I had mine mounted on a standard triple flange hoop with a rubber rim guard. The lack of adapter is definitely the biggest downside, in my opinion.

    Great review; very thorough. You're right about the L rod clamp omission being a foolish one. And that you can't find the !$#% thing anywhere. Deal killer for me.

      It appears to be back on Alibaba but looks like they have a minimum order size of 5 units now and you have to send an inquiry. There is a similar looking pad on AliExpress called "Single trigger Percussion Batting bar BT-2A" that's very cheap, but I haven't tried it myself so can't be certain that it will perform the same.

    @The eDrum Workshop: are you aware the akai mpc one can be a drum module when hooking up a trigger io to the usb input or midi input.
    I would love to see you do a deep dive into this, because i feel its the best drum module that currently exists, even if it is not advertised as one.
    I mean, its a complete music production system, and you can imagine having all the built in plugins and 16 pads with each 4 layers (yes also for velocity,random,cycle) and 4 effects per pad. Then also 4 banks so a total of 128 pads per kit. I mean its a beast, and you can easily tell it to use more thant just 1 pad for each drum. It goes so deep, and on top of all that you can ofcourse build your own music with it as well, i mean its what its build for in the first place. And all of that for aprox $760
    Imagine building a massive drumkit with many many layers, and all the effects you want. Like dub delays, modulations, pitch variations etc. Anyway, im using it and i feel it needs the attention from the e-drum world it deserves. So yeah Akai mpc one. (did i mention you can easily record straight into the sampler with a mic, and that it has its own drum synth plugin)

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Love the enthusiasm! Yeah, I've seen someone using the MPC One before and it does look really cool. I'll definitely have to look into it more thoroughly, sounds like a really interesting idea for some things that current modules won't offer. I've tried out the Akai MPX 8 on a suggestion as a sample playback option but it struggled over MIDI and would sometimes miss things that were sent. Can't remember exactly what the issue turned out to be but it's basically an inbuilt problem. I imagine the MPC One doesn't have any issues there? (Would imagine not as a higher-end piece of gear.)

    • @wormjuice7772
      @wormjuice7772 Před 2 lety

      @@TheeDrumWorkshop Nope at its core its a Sampler with super low latency. Its the trademark of Akai's mpcs so you cant go wrong there. Currently i sampled superior drummer, 4 layers each and set them on the pads, using velocity as the determination to which sample plays (per pad). And it plays perfectly. And im someone who really cant play with to much latency. Each pad has poly settings and you can up the poly to the 30ties range. Currently im using a behringer fcb1010 to control program changes.
      So in just one project i have 10 drumkits, and i switch them on the fly, and because of the poly settings all that is played keeps playing while switching. So hitting a cymbal and switching to a different track with a different kit does not choke the sound. I will search for your email and send a little demo video. That way you can see if it has your interest, and how it works.

    Looks good! Who's gonna be the first one to pick up one of those Lemon modules? hehe. Honestly my Roland bar trigger kinda sucks. I get tons of crosstalk on that thing. I've never really been able to dial it in so well. I would like to have a cross stick zone though, so maybe I'll give it another shot.

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeeeeaaaah, I'm not confident on taking the plunge on the module haha! That's weird, you shouldn't get much cross-talk with the BT-1 if you're using the switch with it and have the X-talk suppression up on the pad it's attached to. What module do you run again? Was it the TD-6? I imagine that one doesn't have the BT-1 preset?

      Yesss! That’s what it been saying! Maybe I’ll buy the Lemon module. Hmmm. And they also have a really nice drum set Amp speaker!!

  • @Paul-md8ms
    @Paul-md8ms Před 2 lety

    I tried the bt1 on my snare hoop and rack Tom hoop but had too much trouble with x talk it now lives on the first cymbal stand just in front of the snare on the left , were you able to use the bt1 without it being triggered by a rim shot cross sticking in any of your tests my module is a td27

    • @TheeDrumWorkshop
      @TheeDrumWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Did you have it on the BT-1 setting rather than the BT-1 Sens setting? If I have it on that BT-1 setting, it never gets triggered by the drum it's attached to, rim or otherwise, because of its internal switch. It can trigger the rim of the drum that it's attached to if you don't set up the cross-talk correctly.
