At 2:12:43 when you asked if something had been released prior to college dropout the answer is no, before college dropout Kanye was just a famous producer that also wanted to become an artist. But at that time everyone doubted him and kept telling him to just stick to producing since he was already a successful producer, which he was producing for one of the biggest artist at that time (Jay-Z) and that he wasn’t going to be successful as an artist. So that’s what Kanye is referring to in the line “they expected that college dropout to drop and then flop”. (Also that explains why Kanye had a Jay-Z feature on his debut album because they were already really close since Kanye was Jay-Z’s main producer)

I’m sure you hear this all the time, but his next album Late Registration, is the College Dropout but arguably better and factually more orchestral and grand sounding. The great lyrics and vibes from the college dropout with much more complex and beautiful instrumentals, definitely check out the whole album. Love the video.

As for the non song, spoken word tracks, You’ll hear them referred to as “skits” or “interludes” and you’re almost spot on. They’re commonly used to help portray the theme or motifs of an album or run of songs. A lot of the best rappers out there are able to make albums thematic or almost like one long auditory art peice i.e. TPAB by Kendrick or 808’s by Kanye. But other times they’re just used to break up albums like an intermission in a musical

      Best song on the album

  • @whateveruggh
    @whateveruggh Před 6 dny +1

Kanye's entire discography is an artistic version of his life at the time.
The first 3 albums is Kanye's rise from the rebel outcast in hop hop that nobody believed in ,to becoming the #1 artist in the game by Graduation. I'm not sure if I see as much narrative cohesion from track to track on Kanye's first 3 albums , I feel like back then he focused more on making the best individual tracks and after his mom died his artistic vision became a little more "big picture" creating a character of himself for albums.
808s is the turning point after his mom died and his first fiancé left him.
MBDTF is him going into a Dark Fantasy world of fame and sex after the Taylor Swift VMA backlash, the album starts with Nicki Minaj in a fake British accent "twisted fiction sick addiction " and the album ends with Kanye Lost in the World calling out to Kim after Blame Game his split with Amber Rose.
On Yeezus, Kanye is completely lost in a sex addicted superstar God alter ego Yeezus but that lifestyle tears him apart at the end but he's still holding on to it and Bound 2 closes the album with him meeting Kim and seeing a glimpse of love.
On the The Life of Pablo Kanye has to choose which one, the life for family and God or the life of fame and sex and the album ends with him calling to God for a way out of the nightlife on Saint Pablo.
Ye is the reality of his bipolar nature and trying to define the real Kanye and deal with his past. On the last song Violent Crimes the chorus is says "Reality is upon us, colors dripping off" it's the end of the Dark Fantasy. And Nicki Minaj closes the album with a real voicemail in her normal voice juxtaposed to how she introduces Dark Fantasy in a fake voice.
After the Dark Fantasy is completely over on Ye he finds God again on Jesus Is King.
Donda (the original tracklist) is an underrated masterpiece and from Jail to Come to Life its a basically a journey of how God set him free.
    Jail
"Guess who's going to jail tonight? God gonna post my bail tonight "
    Come to Life
"God is still alive, so I'm free"
Kanye's discography coincides with his real life because it's all public and all of the media stunts come before album's so his life and his art merge in a way I don't think any artist has done before for an entire career, because Ye is so open and public. He's almost made his life like a movie.

The reason Slow Jamz is credited as Twista’s song is because the song is also on Twista’s album, Kamikaze. They both decided to have the song on both of their albums.

One thing that makes Kanye so important is is diversity of samples. The sample in Never Let Me Down is Michael Bolton’s pro-solo group (forget the name). But he adds on all those layers you mentioned. On the other hand Through the Wire is pretty much just Chaka Khan’s Through the Fire sped up with an OutKast drum beat under it. And that’s just two tracks 🤯
