  • Had so much fun doing this tune earlier today, I've just been kind of obsessed with it since I saw Ekep Nkwelle performing it at Emmet's Place (her Unity Jazz Fest one is great too) - just an insanely amazing performance, great voice, and I particularly loved the raw energy she brought to it, I don't know if that's something you see a lot in jazz nowadays.
So I just saw that and pretty much instantly wanted to do it, asked my friend Ben if he'd be down to play guitar and this is the result. Was very much inspired by Ekep's version but I tried to bring my own thing to it so hopefully that comes across well. I also really liked how she invited the audience to sing along to the song's outro when doing it at Emmet's, so that's what you're hearing me trying to do at the start there (much less smoothly cause I suck at public speaking).
This was performed at the 3 Jolly Butchers in Brighton, a local pub that also serves as a great venue for music events.
Sorry about the video angle and also um the scatting at the end wasn't planned at all and my scat practice is very limited lol so feel free to ignore thatt
    Performers:
    Ben Highgate - Acoustic Guitar
    Credits:
Traditional blues, unsure who composed it but first recorded by Ma Rainey in 1924.
