    This was a rare instance when Teddy was wrong, and frankly he comes across as disrespectful in trying to downplay Hopkins' achievements. Hopkins was incredibly gifted and what he did at his age was amazing. Props to Hopkins for not going off on Teddy in this interview, and just agreeing to disagree.

    And as (at least in my opinion) one of the best things about being a boxing fan, is watching guys go from being young fighters, and go all the way to the top. And as a fight fan, when we watch guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao achieve great things, one of the reasons that watching them do those great thing, is because we want to see what heights they can go to, and waiting to see the next all time great fighter join the legends of history is a big part of it, but Atlas thinks that cant happen.

  • @Tracywithafacey

    Teddy is almost saying that on that night, Pascal was totally different and rubbish where he clearly was not before. You gotta realise Teddy that that is to with Bernard, he made him do what he wanted, he wound him up, he got him frustrated so he was throwing wide punches. This fight was psychological as well as physical, and Bernard won that part easily.

    When you hear Atlas talk, it's no surprise that a lot of people today, like casual boxing fans that only watch the superfights, or the "take it or leave it" fans, or the mainstream media in general, and also the everyday guy on the street who doesnt know any better, when you hear him talk like this, it's no wonder that they all think that fighters today can't fight for shit, and that they are no good guys now, and that the top guys are just the best of a bad bunch. He is so negative its unreal

  • @Taylorslade123
    @Taylorslade123 Před 13 lety +1

    Going by Atlas' way of thinking, we should all just stop watching boxing, because according to him, it is not possible for a modern fighter to do enough to put himself up with the greats of the past, because they fought much more often, sometimes several times a week. Whilst I acknowledge that fighters from that era deserve a massive amount of praise for doing so, it doesn't diminish what a dominant modern fighter can achieve....read on....

    I think that I agree with teddy that pascal is not a level with Bernard in terms of boxing technique and ability. Pascal is a world class operator but remember he is a small light heavyweight and if you look at the fighters that Bernard has exposed it has been super middleweights in the wrong division. Bhopal is a legend but teddy has a point in some respects.

  • @tongwu
    @tongwu Před 13 lety +1

    @leon170184 I personally do not think that Teddy was being disrespectful. All he is trying to say is that if Bernard fought in a more competitive era e.g. Haggler, Hearn and leonard era, when people fought more often. Then he would not last as long. Fighters today do not possess the same level of basic fundlemental skills, when compared with previous generations. As a result, Hopkins, who is an old school fighter, is able to look good against young fighters.

    His reasoning is very much a reflection of who he is, trying find significance of a by gone era...himself. Though he is entitled with his opinion, he is simply trying to get a spotlight thrown in his direction and not to the re-emergence of the sports. Boxing had its fair share of decline. Now, it is enjoying great momentum no thanks to very athletes he is trying desperately to put down and throw under the bus by not giving them credit they deserve.

    What Teddy Atlas is saying makes a lot of sense because these guys like Pascal are really not good solid fighters who have not learn the fundamentals of boxing like B-hop has. That's why B-hop is a master at what he does. He has mastered the craft where as these younger guys have not mastered the craft.
    B-hop is not making these guys fight the way he wants them to fight, this is the way they fight all the time. B-hop is the master schooling the students who are not on his level.

    Well Mr. Atlis is absolutely right, you're only as good your competition. It would be an entirely different story if Mayweather, Jones Jr, Hopkins fought in the 70's or 80's era when it was MONSTERS in the ring like, Hagler, Herns, Sugar Ray, Iran Barkley, young De la hoya, Julio cesar chavez, Hector macho camacho, and so many more gorillas. Bernard thinks he's just the biggest talent in the world, well no disrespect at all Bernard cause I have a style like you and Ward. But you are not in the same league physically than most of these fighters or in 2011. Floyd Mayweather isn't at it welterweight. Teddy is right guys like you Floyd, etc have a skill level that surpasses every fighter today, there's nothing wrong with that. Had you have no skill you'd be looking like Roy my favorite fighter. You're not gonna put a 28 year old you vs 40 year old you cause of the physical side. the skill is there on both sides but the physical side will prevail cause youre not there. These fighters physicality is there but the skill is not and that's why you are who you are cause the skill, it showed vs sergey kovalev as well.

    I like both these guys and respect their boxing knowledge, but they can be quite dogmatic in their communication. No room to bend on anything.

    Agree with teddy that he is a good 46 year old fighter. But he is not great any more and the people hes beating are not all the great.

    Everytime I look at boxing comments somebody's talking stupid
    Teddy atlas is one of the best trainers ever
    He trained Mike Tyson
    He learned from customers definitely one of the greatest trainers ever back when boxing was boxing
    All these fighters cherry pick pick fights
    Hagler fought everybody
    Matter of fact sugar Ray Robinson fought everybody more than once with more rounds

    Teddy Atlas is outta his league on this one...as a fighter he was garbage..Hopkins at 46 beat a champion at 28 regardless of his skill that aint Hopkins fault, i mean the dude he beat was a champion for a reason..
