- SmartReview.com attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2016) to see the latest 4K Ultra HD Panasonic Camcorders. Panasonic has introduced in 2016 their second generation consumer 4K camcorders, the Panasonic HC-WXF991 and HC-VX891 Consumer 4K Camcorders. These camcorders are small, lightweight and record in 4K at 30fps. Both are identical except for a twin camera mounted on the HC-WXF991, and the EVF viewfinder on the HC-WXF991.
New for 2016 is a new zoom motor to give you more control over slow zooms. Also new functions to allow you to crop, crop and zoom, and stabilize your 4K video to HD.
Common features include a Leica lens (f1.8), manual control, Wireless Twin camera WiFi feature (allows smartphone or tablet to operate as a second camera), HYBRID O.I.S.+ , 5 axis image stabilization, 20x zoom in 4K, and HDR recording feature.
U.S. model numbers HC-VX981K and HC-WXF991K

Hi!
What is the difference between HC-WXF990, HC-WXF991, HC-WXF999? Here (in Spain) I only find HC-WXF990, HC-WXF999, but no HC-WXF991. Why?
Is the picture in picture shot always embedded in the final video or can you take the small frame out in post?
Does it allow for the two cameras to record independently, or do they only work as PiP?
I'm waiting to see when Panasonic gonna deliver this camera model ( from the HC-V770 to the HC-WXF991 4K line ) with 1 inch sensor, since all the other models have been coming with 1” sensor but this line still remain with the small 1/2.3” sensor which deliver a lot of digital noise in low light.
Some good new features, maybe we will have to upgrade! Thanks for this review!
on the Panasonic website where they sell this product ( HC-WXF991K) in the specifications of this camera says: Minimum Illumination2 lx (1/30 Low Light Scene Mode) 1 lx (Night Mode (Color)), 0 lx (Night Mode (IR)) .this camera has infrared vision?, you could upload a video with night mode? .thanks
I want the camera that this video was shot with :)
Hi. Does the 981 camera have the dolly zoom affect mode. Because I didn't see the option for it when he showed the menu?
I read this camera can do 120p how do you access the setting to allow this?
Can you choose an area to focus on by touching it on the display?
cool cam, nice video
how would the mic compare to an external rode mic?
The specs are amazing.. but with usb 2.0. sad. those big files will take more time to copy over.
+Ryan Needham I don't know anyone who transfers files using a cable anyway, everyone pulls the card and puts it in the PC.
That's what the sd cards are for.

You said, "its a consumer camcorder, look for a prosumer or professional model for zebras".
My previous GS500 and SD900 also PANASONIC consumerrecorders had ZEBRA!!! So why the 4K not? its in my opinion just a update in camera software, they should DO!!
What other qualities will this camera run?
Do you get the feeling some of these features won't be a software update to their other recent cameras like the VX870. Buy more new stuff!
How big is the sensor????
+andrewcobra2000 HC-WXF991 main one is 1/2.3 and the smaller one is 1/4
+MySchizo Buddy Probably my PanasonicTM900 with 3 MOS sensors shoot better video than this 4K camcorder. You need one inch sensor to shoot real 4K video. Anything smaller then one inch and you get 4 4 4 full HD video not 4K.
+MySchizo Buddy this is the same size of sensor of the sony ax100, or is smaller??
AX100 has 1” sensor, this camera has 4.37 time a smaller sensor (1/2.3”), which means you will likely get 4 times more digital noise on your footage. Keep your Sony AX100 with you.
This camera don't have a zerbra function!!!
What a disappointment it doesn't do 4 k 50p!
