    Great demonstration of the hrd and lion tamer. After not using my hrd for years at home due to the volume issue, I finally ordered one of these. You get a great sound from the amp, even on the drive channel. Thanks for sharing.

    It’s still only giving you pre-amp tube distortion, not power tube distortion. That’s not what your amp sounds like when the power tubes are overdriven. The effects loop comes before the power tubes in the circuit so you’re turning the volume down before it hits them. The only way to get power tube distribution at “bedroom” volume is to use an actual, proper attenuator.

      I've found it helps the sound (even though only preamp) as long as you only want 'edge of break up' - it also enables you to match the home and gig sounds more closely. Any ideas and experience on attenuators for the Hot Rod Deluxe? Also need to replace my lost Dr Watson if anyone knows where I can get one.

      I think depending on the amp it may be changing the position of the master volume like pre or post phase right?

      Put it in the effects loop and add a tube screamer to the front and 🙌 rockin & rolling and whatnot ..

    This really is a game changer if you have a Hot Rod Deluxe or a Blues Deluxe. Mine works great!
    The real question is why doesn't Fender just fix this problem with these amps???

    That works well. Sounds good ! I've built those for a few people in the last year or two.
    But what I really love to do with a hot rod deluxe (or deville, blues deluxe, etc.) is gut the pcb out of the amp altogether and handwire a 59 bassman/68 marshall plexi into it. It's a great conversion candidate.

    Man, I bet that clean channel boosted is where it's at!
    I've ordered one of these for my HRD, the drive channel is a bit meh, but TS9 in front of the broken clean. Got a good feeling about that

    Thanks for posting, I had a 70s twin with a little blue "ice cube" that plugged in to the reverb send/return using the reverb knib as the volume and that was uncreadible! This lion tamer is a great idea!

      Jason Poore I think it’s great. I can run the amp a bit hotter but keep the volume down. It definitely sounds better. You get a bit of that break up. Obviously running the amp loud sounds the best but it isn’t always an option. I’m happy with it.

Ongelooflijk!

    Works great in the Bassbreaker 30R as well - just need a couple of patch cables and couplers as the jacks are further apart than the HRD

      Are you using the channel 2 volume as your master? And does this help tame the massive DB jump when you stomp switch 2 on the footswitch? I am curious because I have been trying to figure out how to use the awesome sound of the lead channel without the massive difference in volume when you go from switch 1 to switch 2.

    I have a purple HRD, these amps are beasts, way too much amp for me but the price was amazing. Being in ch2, clean, with OD/fuzz pedal, u can crank the vol/master a little for home use and get great tone. But I need to get one of these.

      Hi there! Yep, I've had this Hot Rod since the 90s and recently purchased a new limited edition. It's the amp that will work for any type of gig I ever have (breweries, wedding receptions, jazz combos, etc). I've tried a bunch of amps over the years, and the HRD just gets things done! Thanks for your comment!

    I have make the same thing with a 500k pot, 2 x 1/4 jack. Put it all this in a littke plastic box, 2 solder to make.
    5 minutes labour, 5$ and 2 patch cable.
    This make exactly the same thing, for 1/8 of the price.

    Thanks Jason, this helps, am thinking on the hotrod deluxe and the Deville but when I tried the Deville it was way loud at just over 2 very quickly on the master volume control but I liked the tone of the 2 12” Celestion speakers. I think this could be the answer otherwise my options are a relatively small speaker amp sacrificing a good clean tone with headroom

    • @euphometric22
      @euphometric22  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Michael! Yep, there's definitely some noise. Part of that is that this amp is old and has seen a lot of trauma. I have a new Hot Rod limited edition that I purchased recently, and the noise is significantly less pronounced when maxed out. I think it was Jeff Beck who said "that's just the sound of the amp breathing."

    • @CloverTheBunnyABDL
      @CloverTheBunnyABDL Před 4 lety

      You're going to naturally get a lot of hiss when add more volume. Just kind of the give and take of overdrive.

    do you have any idea where the lion tamer puts all the power from the output stages? wondering because attenuators get really hot doing the same thing dont they?
