- What an awesome day! This was a last minute decision on coming to Iloilo for the Dinagyang Festival but I'm so glad I did. The costumes and the dances by all of the 8 tribes were amazing! I was so lucky to be able to see this in person. I can’t imagine how much time and effort went into making all the amazing costumes and learning all the steps to the dances. This is an experience I will never forget.
Here's some info about Dinagyang if you're interested. (Wiki) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinagyang
The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural festival in Iloilo City, Philippines held on the 4th Sunday of January, or right after the Sinulog in Cebu and the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan. Dinagyang was also voted as the Best Tourism event three times in a row among any other festivals in the Philippines, it is also the most awarded festival in the country, because of its legacy, popularity and innovation . it receives an honor and regarded as World Class Festival.
History
Dinagyang began after Rev. Fr. Ambrosio Galindez, the first Filipino Rector of the Agustinian Community and Parish Priest of the San Jose Parish introduced the devotion to Santo Niño in November 1967 after observing the Ati-Atihan Festival in the province of Aklan. On 1968, a replica of the original image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was brought to Iloilo by Fr. Sulpicio Enderez of Cebu as a gift to the Parish of San Jose. The faithful, led by members of Confradia del Santo Niño de Cebu, Iloilo Chapter, worked to give the image a fitting reception starting at the Iloilo Airport and parading down the streets of Iloilo.[1]
In the beginning, the observance of the feast was confined to the parish. The Confradia patterned the celebration on the Ati-atihan of Ibajay, Aklan, where natives dance in the streets, their bodies covered with soot and ashes, to simulate the Atis dancing to celebrate the sale of Panay. It was these tribal groups who were the prototype of the present festival.[2]

It was so fun to watch!
in my college days we used to serve as crowd fence, it was our community service as part of our then ROTC. it was fun.
It must take a lot of practice for them to put on performances like that . And the costumes are awesome and very colorful . 😊😘
They practiced a lot untill midnight.
So much practice! It was so fun to watch
They practice emonths before the competition which is after school then weekends.
As far as i know, they are all high school students from First year to 4th year high school.. They start practicing from the month of June start of school year.. and i heard it's part of their PE subject?
I came from there those tribe members(are STUDENTS of different SCHOOLS heard it's part of their P.E. CLASS so it's part of your grade) they practice a lot months & months they took it very seriously to participate..
WooW!! Super moments. Enjoyed very much :)
They were : )
Thankyou for featuring and visiting my hometown dude.

Good thing you have experienced dinagyang festival in iloilo hope you enjoyed it. More to explore in iloilo hope you have more to time to go around not only the festival but more places to visit food to try and the the people. Have
Thanks I'm glad I made it
Take note that this is just the streetdance...how much more of they see the actual judging area performance of each tribe.....? For sure they will be awe....during streetdance they just use 5% only of their energy and the remaining 95% will be showcased on the performance on 5 judging areas where the judges will rate them according to their performance

Its Great if you got ticket bro their performance are different and much better but I think you need to pay and reserve a week before... Thank you for coming... Try Our Batchoy bro..
This was the street dance performance so no ticket needed, it was amazing to see : )
@@DustinBackpacks .. Its Great you enjoy Dinagyang... Try to eat Batchoy bro.. Its our Local food.. I Recommend you to eat in Lapaz market specifically Popoys Batchoy ....

Oh man sorry I took your spot! I would have happily moved 🙂
@@DustinBackpacks naah i didn't mean that ahahaha.. i meant the general area where i always shoot Dinagyang yearly.. ^_^ you were the guy that talked to Martin right, if i could recall. Well nice seeing you there actually and I do hope you enjoyed Dinagyang.
@@VanS3n haha ah ok, yes that was me. and thanks I really did enjoy it : )
This was a street dancing not their full perfomance. .they do a street dancing before they reach the judging area for the full performance.overall it was fun to watch. coz I was a dancer before of a tribe paghidaet the one got announced champion.
Oh that's awesome good for you!
you should go to Pasalamat Festival in La Carlota City next time in about mid-April if you're still around!
If im around that would be cool!
It’s my city Iloilo...thanks for the video Dustin ❤️
I enjoyed there 😊
I lk ilo a lot. My bf sister in Jaro. Great videos thx
🙂🙏
Lain gid kun ara ang bola bola.sadya sang dinagyang
😀
Hows the drum beat dustin? Those drum hearts pounding
i loved the drum parts
nice camera use..nice video..
thanks!
This is not their performance though. I feel like people watching this will get misinformed. The performances are way grander. This is just them travelling from one performance stage to the other.
i changed the name to street dance so I hope people arent confused..
I hope I was there to accompany you. Haha...
you would have loved it for sure!
@@DustinBackpacks yes for sure. Every year its a tradition to my family to watch DINAGYANG. I miss hanging out there, most especially at night, a lot of bands there, the foods on the streets and of course the drinks. 😁😂🍺🍺
❤️❤️❤️
😁😁😁😆🥰🥰🥰🥰 The city of love
3:05 I saw Martin Solhaugen ,a norwegian vlogger with a filipina girlfriend..
Lol yea we were right by each other
dustin u should have something to protect u from strong sunlight. you dont have melanin as much as we filipinos do. it some sort of skin component which protects us from skin cancer but makes us darker. anyway another awesome video.
You are right.. I was very burnt the next day lol. Thank you 😊🙏
perfect dustin
🙏🙂
Hi
Hi 😀
u missed it this is just the street dance
it was amazing : )
Did Filipinos ever dress that way
Old Tribes dear. That's why It's called. Religious and Cultural festival. Aeta/ati tribes before Christ dress that way. And because it is festival. Of course Filipinos are creative and they add Colorful designs to make it more Festive. That is the ethics of what we call Artistry.
I think this is not the proper venue for their grand performances instead just the walk to the grandstand where there's a wider area and judges make the scores..
Ah ok 🙏🙂
hahahahah bisaya music
😁
That's Ilonggo not bisaya
@@supotnabaog oh ok
akala ko eh sorry
We are from Visayas but not Bisaya. We're ILONGGO. .
your no manners. your shooting in the middle of the street your blocking the performer...
🙂
@@DustinBackpacks haha that is normal here every dinagyang lots of tourist shoots in the middle of street dancing performances as long as they know how to run backwards. Lol
It's very acceptable to shot in the middle of the street. Only in Iloilo Dinagyang festival.
Awesome
It was!
Happy Fiesta Iloilo!!! Mabuhay
