    Family of 4, we just switched from a Honda CRV to the Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE. Averaging 33 miles per gallon and loving all the extra room! Tons of safety features and the massive sunroof is joyous. MPG, Toyota brand, technology and capacity were our major deciding factors over the Palisade.

      @oldageisdumb Před 6 měsíci

      @@danehenderson5480We test drove a regular Highlander hybrid and it was pretty zippy (not on the highway but on the highway access road). The GH is heavier so not sure how much that would affect that. We owned a camry hybrid for 10 years and it had plenty of power so Toyota does a good job with it. But keep in mind a 4cyl hybrid engine is never going to be as great as a solid 6cyl gas engine for the feel. It’s just a preference if you like zippy vs strong (if that makes sense) Edited to say we currently own a palisade and thinking of replacing it with a GH hybrid

    The regular Highlander is perfect size for smaller families as it provides extra space over compact SUVs, but still easy to park and can tow. Grand Highlander is straight up for people who don’t want a minivan, but need minivan size.

    • @almassengale
      @almassengale Před 8 měsíci +4

      It isn't really minivan size though on the inside. Something like a Kia Carnival has almost double the cargo space behind the third row and it is well down on maximum cargo space on everything but the Sienna with its non removable middle row. A Honda Odyssey can fit almost 50 cubic feet more behind the first row than a Grand Highlander can.

      I drove and sat in both a 2024 Honda Pilot and the 2024 Grand Highlander. We chose the GH b/c the Pilot dogged when trying to accelerate onto the freeway (accidently squealed tires accelerating in the GH w turbo). The Honda Pilot 3rd row is claustrophobic with the window layout. The GH 3rd row has a clear full window. I was able to snag a bench 2nd row so we chose the GH. Oh, and the Pilot was about $10k more.

      @@bigk0101 Grand Highlander has the same bulbous dimensions as a van, but much less interior utility, more expensive, limited towing, and very little offroad ability- which is the only reason 3rd row crossovers/SUVs would be a legitimate choice. Vans are just honest with no overpriced pretensions.

    They need a bench second row option in top trims, preferably with a removable middle seat like in the Odyssey. Captains chairs don't work well for my three kid family during those times when we need to maximize cargo space and sometimes we take lots of kids with us and an extra seat might be the difference behind having to take another car.

    By the way, it’s a 2024 not a 2023 as the title shows. I do like that you showed differences of seat back vs forward and explained what 2nd row space would be in other vehicles because comparing cubic feet only is hard to tell. However, what made us decide on the grand (picking up tomorrow by the way) goes more than simple space or knees. You can’t neglect when buying a car the reliability Toyota (and Honda for that matter) offer, resale value is much stronger with Toyotas compared to Kia and Hyundai, the years and years and perfecting their hybrid systems. Those points brought us to Toyota grand highlander. Sure a sweet looking inside of a Kia telluride or Hyundai does look better, I’ll be honest. But for price and other factors I mentioned it’s hard to simply ignore. But she is right in that it really just depends on what you are looking for that fits for you. Hybrid (not hybrid max) we are choosing supposedly goes 36 mpg in city, we’ll test it when we get it and show a video of 3 car seats we need to fit. But that’s about $800-900 a year saving on gas.

    You mentioned 2023-4 Pilot and made it sound like it was larger than the Grand Highlander - I don't think that's the case, although when I sat in the driver's seat and adjusted it comfortably for me in both vehicles and then sat behind myself in the 2nd row, I had *more* legroom in the Pilot. Which surprised me. I think I need to go back and try that again. Maybe Pilot simply apportioned more 1st and 2nd row legroom than did GH, hence why GH has more cargo space behind the 3rd row?

    • @robertoreyes8232
      @robertoreyes8232 Před 8 měsíci

      Wait what? You don’t think the Pilot is bigger than the GH yet you literally confirm that when you sat on both?!? There’s many cars that are big but don’t make good use of the space. Looks like that’s the case here too.

    Hey Kelly, thank you for the great video. If possible and since you are taking requests. I would like to see a comparison of this SUV with a VW ATLAS. I only have one kid so space for a car seat is not a problem but every time I travel try to take the family with us (Grandparents) therefore I am always looking for the most usable space without having to step up to a full size SUV.
    Thank you so much in advanced.

    The mediocre IIHS safety ratings give me pause in a family car as does forcing you to get a two place second row in top trims. Other than that this looks good.

    Family of 3 soon to be 4 in the future. We have a 2020 Rav4 and need to upgrade. We love Toyota and GM but were leaning toward the 2024 Chevy Traverse with a little more space and storage that it offers in the same price range. It is hard to walk away from that really good MPG which Toyota excels at. Great videos, we enjoy watching them and coming with a decision for our next family car!

However, if you weight slightly more power / acceleration or just don't like minivans, then you have no choice but to get the grand highlander. TL;DR being - if you don't know which one to choose, go Sienna.

    Traverse/Enclave/redesigned 2024 Acadia, Atlas, and Grand Highlander are all the same size 96-98 cubic feet with all seats down. Pilot, Telluride/Pallisade, Explorer, and Grand Cherokee L are 10-12 cubic feet smaller. There’s no comparison. Of the big boys, Grand Highlander and Atlas have the best packaging and materials. The Pilot and GC L are nice too. The rest are pretty cheaply put together especially the Korean twins. The materials don’t feel great at all.

    I have this in the XLE trim. Speaking of strange decisions by Toyota to save a few dollars… the XLE trim has no speakers in the third row. And no wiring to even add speakers. Kids can’t hear a thing back there. So annoying. How much would rear speakers cost? Base trim speakers probably less that twenty bucks. But instead I have to spend maybe a grand for wiring and speakers and void my warranty to upgrade. XLE still costs 50 grand. Not like this is a base model Honda civic folks. On top of that, the stop start feature is really annoying. I’d suggest getting the limited trim for the rear speakers and the 360 camera for parking. The new cream color is nice as is the great seats. Love the car other than the stupid speaker issue and stop start. And wish I had a middle bench. Love the sunroof. Love the design of the exterior.

    There is a need for a crossover between the 182" RAV4 and the 201" Grand Highlander. IMO they should give the Highlander bigger more comfortable seats, move the second row back, and remove the 3rd row. Let Grand Highlander be the 3 row crossover. Need serious towing and/or moderate offroad ability ? Get the Sequoia.

    That tilt & slide is not the same as some vehicles tilt & slide. You couldn't have a carseat installed in that seat & access the 3rd row then? Other than entering second row (navigating around a FF carseat) and going between the captains chairs. That's a bummer. I really like the tilt&slide where the carseat can remain installed like in the Lexus TX & Atlas
