    but the problem that I think most of us encounter is hard packed sand, or even non-existent sand, where the club just skips across the surface and blades the ball into the face of the bunker. You can try taking all the sand you want, but if there's none to take it's just a lottery. Bunker instruction videos are never shot in the bunkers that so many of us play in and even practice bunkers so often do not reflect what you then find on the course.

    • @mikerodrick2430
      @mikerodrick2430 Před rokem +24

      The issue is that you can't open the clubface as you do in a bunker with sand because it'll just bounce into the ball because it can't get under the sand. Open the face only a little or not at all & hit it like a chip rather than a long swing. It'll roll out after reaching the green so take that into consideration as well.

    Practiced four times today on the sand now. I had a bunker lesson a month ago and I’m quite acceptable on it but on Sunday I choked twice on bunkers (on Saturday I was excellent). Playing in different courses, of course. And what I mayorly see is that different courses have different sand and that is quite defying many times. Thing is, after seeing your video, which has lots of things in common to what my teacher told me, is to not put the hands so up front. And that was the thing that helped me most. I now have some sand on my garden because they haven’t cleaned it from a construction and was practicing there and it went pretty fine. Ive gained confidence from that simple tip putting the hands more in the middle, so as not to compress the ball as if I was on the fairway. Thanks man.

    The previous comment is exactly what I seem to encounter most places I play. Hard packed, wet, not raked sand, non groomed sand. We don’t have a chance to get out of a bunker most of the time! And plus, where I play, public courses, there is no practice bunkers to improve our blinker skills. I will suffer the penalty for hitting it in a bunker but at least I would like to have a chance in it.😮

    Hi Alex; About hitting the sand & not the ball, if you're in a bunker that actually has sand in it & a flat lie, when you dig your feet into the sand, that puts you below the level of the ball which would cause you to hit it fat if you were in the fairway, so the same should apply in a bunker as well. When you dig in, you should automatically hit behind the ball without having to make it happen. Then as long as the rest of the shot is done properly, open face with the proper set-up & enough speed to get through the sand, it should come out easily. So digging into the sand isn't only for support but removes the necessity to purposely trying to hit the sand behind the ball because it'll happen automatically.

      Yep, that’s very common at public courses. Over time the sand gets removed from play and get washed away from rain if the bunkers weren’t built with, it still have good drainage underneath. This leaves the bunkers being dirt or clay depending upon the soil where the course is located. It is expensive to maintain sand bunkers and many public/muni courses simply don’t have the funds to maintain the bunkers. Or prune trees. Or controlling weeds. Or replacing worn out pumps in water hazards. Of fixing broken water fountains. Or…

    My dear you dont do it deep you will get a direct connection with the ball and the ball will go miles out of the green. When the sand is hard packed it becomes even more difficult

    How do you deal with bunkers that are hard?

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf

      It’s similar goal although the result may not look like the sand travels as far. Intent is key

    Is the bunker shot the same technique as a flop shot?

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf

      Somewhat. Set up is lower and you are not hitting behind with the flop

    I am sure these techniques are correct, however I cannot control the height of the clubhead at the bottom of the swing; it varies by 4-5 cm, usually one extreme or the other, so I either hit the ball above halfway, or dig right underneath. Is there any solution to this problem? If not, no perfect technique otherwise will have any consistency.

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  Před rokem

      Look up the bunker lessson . You neEd to practice low point control. Tee a ball up high and practice swinging end wedge underneath to only hit the tee

      Hi thank you. I have the same problem with every club, although only when I try to hit a ball, not with any number of practice swings with no ball.

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf

      Tbh it’s a similar concept. It just requires more velocity into the sand to get the grains out.

    I think most amateur and high handicappers know they have to hit the sand first and accelerate through. They even know they suppose to hit the sand about 2 inches behind the ball. The problem is they just can’t seem to hit that behind-the-ball spot that they are aiming. So, throw your “focus and looking at” theory out of the window.
