Even though we know the final results now, I have to give you all the credit for not leaving the Tour after the first 15K pursuit. You were very discouraged but followed the advice from your Father and Morfar and you stuck it out. It isn’t about winning all the time, it is about how you approach it and what you give to it. And you gave it all you could. Loved seeing you on the Tour and another great VLOG. I know there will be many detractors over the next week but you stayed for the rest of the event and you made the podium. I was thrilled to be able to see you compete! Best of luck in Dresden and for the rest of the season. I’ll be watching via the Olympic Channel from the US and cheering you in every single race!!

Lisa Costello I agree with you 100000000000000% it’s a perfect way to sum up this years tour de ski competition. The thing that i would like to add is a fact that because of that Johannes won in previous year it was expected from him to win also this year but competitions are NEVER the same because sometimes you just have a worst day or something (there is also a matter of recovery and so on) that’s why we have to look for what’s now not what was in the past because media and fans cause pressure on competitors with expecting too much without thinking of struggle that they actually have 🤷🏻♂️
Stanisław Gorzelany you are right on the money. And this event was completely different than last year when you look at some of the races, point structure, etc. Bolshunov was very strong as was Ustiugov....it made for very exciting racing but people put a ton of pressure on Johannes and he is a human, same as the rest of us. Heck, a large portion of the team went home sick so they didn’t have as much of a chance to work as a team. Simen Kruger is a beast on the hills but nobody was giving him grief when he didn’t win the sprint. My favorite part about watching Johannes ski is his ability to use strategy. I am just so glad he stayed to finish it and not be called a sore loser.
Lisa Costello your words are more than true I hope Johannes will read what you have written ♥️ There is also Iversen who is working for success very hard which is helpful for being motivated by your teammate but unfortunately he got sick 🤒 I hate when people negatively judge others even when they achieve so much... 😭
@@stasio599 exactly. And I don't know about you but I am the furthest thing from a competitive cross country skier as can be. I can't imagine what it takes to do what they do. Nor can most of the people who criticize them. We are fortunate in the US to have a great commentator (Chad Salmola) who knows the athletes and their strengths and weaknesses. He is really fair and he LOVES skiing. He makes watching them exciting....he is the reason I discovered Johannes at the 2018 Olympics. It is nice to see the rivalry but it is also great to see them have some class when it comes to losing. I agree about Iversen who is working so very hard and one small illness has cost him his goals for this year. I have the utmost respect for these guys....this sport is so demanding and they have to be so incredibly fit. All of them, from first through last. Nice to have a fellow fan!!
Don’t be so disappointed, it’s getting more interesting to watch the struggle for World Cup. Good luck from Russia! Anyway you’re really strong and we all respect you for your significant contribution in the development of cross country skiing. Keep going!
The main battles are yet to come! So get some rest and come back stronger (as you always do). You have the heart of a champion and this is something that no one can ever win as a trophy.
A champion is not one who wins all the time, but one who can keep fighting when things don't go as planned. The spirit comes from the heart, and you have that spirit. Thank you for all your vlogs, for keeping me motivated even on days when I'm not having such a great time. There are better days ahead, and you will be ready to make the most of them.
First of all I want to thank you for the past year 2019 🙏 Your vlogs bring so much joy and motivation! You did your very best at Tour de Ski and you came home with an amaizing 3rd place!!!🌟But it's understandable that a top athlete as you will always strive for the gold 😅 It's okay to not be positive 24/7, and it was brave from you to tell us about your real feelings after the competitions, instead of just brushing it off, just more realistic 👌
I hope you know that for us, your fans, you will always be the number 🥇 and we won't leave your side easily! You will definitly win the World Cup, we believe in you and we are so proud of you ❤️ Ps. A very good reminder at 11:15, a thing that we all should work on!
To quote Vince Lombardi: “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up”. You’re still a champion and I’m sure you will continue to fight for the World Cup till the very end!

J & O, another excellent vlog. J, I know the TDS results weren't what you'd hoped, and it's great that you set your bar so high but don't grow disheartened. There's still plenty of WC season remaining to fight for the necessary points. And assessing where you can grow stronger next season too. Exciting times.

Happy New Year, Johannes and Ola! Another great vlog. Even though Tour de Ski wasn`t quite what you had hoped for, third place still means only two people beat you, and random coincidences like not ideally prepared skies are factors beyond your control. Add to that you even went quicker up the alpine course than last year, all in all this was not so bad after all. Some of the stages you impressed immensely, not to say jawdroppigly. Maybe that would have been the case in Toblach too, had the skies been better the first day there. The fact so many of the Norwegians failed at the same day, speaks loudly the skies were not as well prepped as the competition`s. But having said that, I thought it a great shame the tracks and courses in Tour de Ski were designed so poorly many of them they favored muscles over skiing technique or a good head for tactics, like your`s (I haven`t forgotten how secured last year`s World Cup win in Toronto. Fooling a certain Russian to think he could take you - only to speed up and leave him behind when he almost had caught up with you). Particularly the last day`s track up the alpine course favored brute force and determination over technique and brains. Whatever will be next - a bobsleigh course in reverse!? It is just ridiculous to include a slalom course in a cross country skiing competition! I frankly think a better way of organizing Tour de Ski would be to include more competitions, over a longer periode of time - but allow the athletes to pick and choose which competitions they wanted to compete in by, same way as it was in Rally Cross in the old days, only counting a certain number of races in the tour or overall World Cup. Allowing skiers to exclude results they were not happy with, in favor of better results they had achieved in competitions that followed. Such a system would not only reduce the disaster of a bad day or getting too ill to start, since with there being more races in the tour or World Cup than there were being awarded points, the athletes could exclude their poorest results from the results counted, and even add races - hoping to improve on failed ones - should it be necessary. So someone like Hans Christer Holund could opt to only enter 30 and 50 k races, while the Johannes Høstflot Klæbos, Maiken Capersens etc could opt for the sprint races, Iivo Niskanen only to enter classic cross country races, and so and so forth. Unless they were ill, or did poorly in one or more, and then could compensate by trying to enter a 15 k, or something.
Should one or more skier/s achieve maximum points before the World Cup had finished, he/she/they would both get an early vacation, as well as having secured a World Cup win. Should someone else achieve the maximum points, it would have been a joint victory. If no one got the maximum of points after all the races had finished, the winner would be the one/ones with the most points.
The last stage of this year`s Tour de Ski needs to be improved before next year`s competition. Not only was watching the skiers from a helicopter far away so they looked more like a row of ants than skiers, or seeing the leader of the pack filmed at a distance from a snowmobile, very bad tv, but the clocks were all over the place, identifying the wrong skiers and wrong times. It was so bad for a while, I said to myself: well, at least they have got the gender of the skiers correct. The times and names were not. Cross country skiing either has to be filmed along the course, or have the cameras waiting for the athletes to arrive at certain points of the course, the time running. That is engaging and exciting. Watching a long row of ants while listening to helicopter noise, or noise from a snowmobile, is not.
What could have been exciting, at least from a tv viewer point of view, is if instead of just having the alpine course as an option, that was sort of a "short cut," and athletes could choose between taking that "short cut," or opting for an easier - but longer, or maybe with added time in form of a handicap - course closer to the stadium. Television cameras swapping back and forth from the athletes opting for the alpine course, and those opting for the longer - but less tough - course closer to the stadium, would have added an element of suspense, since both day form, snow conditions and individual strengths and weaknesses could have swung the victory in favor of either an athlete opting for the alpine course, or one opting for the alternative one.
Off course there would have been some challenges - not the least how much longer the alternative course had to have been to still be fair. Also the fact more people would be needed to inform the athletes of their time and position during the race would strain resources. But on the plus side I think it would both make the Tour more open, and certainly make the concluding race less predictable. And the latter could make great tv.
