- I should not have passed on this completely amazing bullet heaven/horde survival roguelike/roguelite inspired by Vampire Survivors and Magic Survival. I may know nothing about HoloLive, but I do know this game does all the right things and I can't find a single flaw except that I know it will eat up all my free time. And it's completely free!

Finding people who don't know anything about Hololive who are playing this has become my new joy. First, because it proves the game is good, as it holds up when you don't know any of the references. But also because there are so many inside jokes and references that seeing the reactions to them and just seeing the "What in the...?" is fun. For the record, every single detail in the game is a reference to something in Hololive, including the stage music, which are songs performed by the talents.
fubuzilla is not a cat, is a fox. funny, because a common joke is about fubuki (the girl fubuzilla is based on) being called cat
Really appreciate how attentive you are, actually taking in everything the game shows you. Not many people I've seen new to Holocure pick up on 'Skills' not being the same as 'Items' or 'Weapons'. These are character specific, each having 3 that max at Lv3 and tend to uniquely influence their playstyle. There's plenty of depth for you to explore in the game, hope you enjoy your time with it. It was fun watching you play!
If you like the music tracks; they're chiptune renditions of actual music productions of Hololive and their talents. 'Suspect's a favorite of mine, the song the first stage theme's based of, sang by Aki Rosenthal, Roboco & Ayame Nakiri.

I like how you got the "investi-gator" pun immediately! Most enemies (or "fans") in the game represent the fandom or a mascot of a Hololive member, and investigators are Amelia's fans.
It's great to see all the people who do not know about Hololive play this game and get mildly confused at all the references; heh.
I feel like I'm going to learn more about HoloLive through this game than I ever knew I wanted to, lol. Love the care that's gone into this project.
@@deepspacematt3333 Oh, you are definitely going to. I'd steer clear of the clips of Hololive girls from now on if I were you. I remember seeing just a single clip of a funny anime dog girl happily slaughtering demons in Doom, and next thing I know, I am subscribed to all Hololive talents, and my YT front page is nothing but vtubers; lol.
On the other hand, it's not a bad obsession. They are all good people, and they are entertaining as heck!

The other single most important thing to know about this is game though is simply this: if you press and hold the p button on the keyboard when playing as Ame, you can pet the dog!!!
(You keep petting the dog until you release the key, I believe.)
This game just got a 1,000 times better!

As a vtuber fan for quite a while its great to see that a 1 person fangame is getting so big that it even reaches people that havent heard of hololive yet

I love Hololive. Their product is cute girls doing cute things. Kay Yu who made the game is a professional animator. I saw his name several times in a popular anime. I think he also does animation for video games. He is a fan of Hololive but not exactly a random person.
It's not a one person fangame, the dev team is quite large at this point.
Not a 1 man game, Kay Yu has a team of 3 developers only
the thing about the two skill ups that seemed to have the same effect, is that one was a general skill up available to all characters (3% crit) and the second is an Amelia exclusive skill up (10% crit). Each one has their own skills and abilities you can unlock and level during play.
I absolutely love watching Vampire Survior players play Holocure.
"Free to play" usually means a game that's initially free, but has artificial limits to encourage monetary transactions. I'd just call Holocure a "free game," since there's no monetization, and the developer promised there will never be any monetization.

@@animefan7424 Yes he can monetize it. Just like Capcom, Bandai Namco, Taito, and many other companies, monetized their use of Hololive content. He just has to negotiate a contract with Cover. By repeating the lie that Kay Yu "can't monetize it" you're denying his good will towards the fans. He's not being forced to make it free, he's making it free out of his own volition.

@@dkosmari fast forward to the past few months ago, Cover Corps changed their policies to allow fans to create monetized fanmade games in regards to Hololive
They also gave Kay Yu the green light to monetize Holocure
But Kay Yu stays true to his words when he released Hololive: "I'm not monetizing the game even if I was to be allowed"
"I'm keeping this game as a hobby project"
"I already have profits from other works of mine, all I want is to make a fan game from a fan to other fans"
as such, the game remains free up to this date
and not only that, he's releasing a new fanmade game of Hololive this March 29th, "Holo X Break" which will ALSO come for free

Honestly this game is a right banger! I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it quite a lot.
You don't need to worry about knowing the references or names, even if almost everything is a reference, the game is so well put together that it very enjoyable even knowing nothing about them.
Personally, I would absolutely adore seeing you play more, there's so much to unlock and do!
Having a game that can really hook you while knowing nothing about the "license" is quite the feat.
Even the music are references to songs.

9:42 The hit limit here refers not to the hit limit of the enemies but rather the hit limit of your projectile, in this case the bullet's hit limit. It refers to how many enemies the bullet can pierce through before it gets stopped. It's really helpful to increase hit limit so you can deal damage not just to the front of the crowds but also to those further behind, otherwise your attacks would just get smothered by the frontliners.

@@deepspacematt3333Also the Elite Cooking collab basically makes the Spider Cooking miasma linger around places you pass through. Basically kind of like what you expected Elite Lava Bucket to initially do, except much bigger AoE and much more damage than just Elite Lava Bucket or plain Spider Cooking.

Some explanations: The things you can get from level-ups are divided into 3 categories: Weapons, Items and passive Skills. At the Level Up screen you can see what is a Weapon, Skill or Item!
The Weapons are self explanatory, you have your own main weapon (Ame's gun for example), and other weapons like the "Bible". Pick up more of Ame's gun and her gun will become stronger, until level 7 (the max). Some of the extra weapons at level 7 can be combined with others to create a "collab", a super powerful combo weapon.
Items are things like a Limiter which will grant you +100% pick up range. Depending on which character you choose, some items are more beneficial than others. Ame heavily invests in Crit for example, so Items using or boosting Crit are better on her.
Passive Skills are unique to the character you choose. They are a core gameplay part of the character, so pick those up if you don't see any good choices. They don't show up on your status screen because they are passives.
There's more, but you can discover those on your own.
Practically every single item, enemy, weapon and skill is a reference to something in Hololive, whether from a character, event, meme or in-joke. It's brilliant for Hololive fans. Have fun!

You can do Special by clicking mouse right button.
Collabs available only if weapons maxed out. You can enchant weapons by anvils, collabed weapon will get both enchants (and you will be able reroll both with single anvil).
Upgrading main weapon to awakened and 3 skills will help you construct a build for character. For example, gura's Short heigh skill lets her evade attacks, and combining with headphones she gets around 50% evade chance. Literally evade-tank build. And her shark bite heals pretty well.
About me, I prefer to play on controller, easier to aim

It's always fun to watch a person pick this game up for the first time. The similarity to Vampire Survivors is usually the first thing noticed, but it's great to watch how people discover the depth this game actually has. Hope you have a good time with this 👍

Fangames in general often have really high production values. The number one most important thing in game development is passion and nobody has more passion than fans.
This is certainly the most feature complete free fan game I've come across. And with even more updates to come!

You've got solid instincts for these games. When "Knightly Milk" popped up as an option on your second ever level up, I was chanting "Get the milk" to myself. It's incredibly powerful, especially if you can get it early. Increase the hitbox of your weapons AND increase your pick-up range? I always take it when it pops up.

@@deepspacematt3333 One bit of advice with the milk: it actually creates a slight dead-zone with Calli's character weapon large enough for most non-elite mobs to fit in. It's 'marked' by the shaft of her weapon. The bigger her scythe, the bigger that zone.
I died so many times from this before I realized that Knightly Milk and Calli aren't a good match.

Smol Ame boss is based on, u guessed it, Amelia Watson herself. Since she is a time traveller Smol Ame is an Amelia from a different timeline named the "Smol Timeline #3138" The Ame we know is from timeline #1337, which many theorize it may not be the same timeline we are currently in.

You're the first non-hololive fan I've seen play this that read through the "opening". Its short, but it sets up pretty much all you need to know, but a lot of people go into it going "who am I, what's happening, why are we shooting at chicken and shrimp?".
This was a month ago so I'm sure you've learned, but good god it was frustrating to see Skills passed up for things that takes slots.

In case you were still wondering, what happened in your second Gura game on stage two is that you took a couple hits that put you down to 45 health. You then started moving towards the anvil and took 5 hits of 10 damage each within a single second. The enemy damage in this game can ramp up a bit faster than in Vampire Survivors, especially since there isn't an "armor" stat to provide any kind of flat damage reduction.

I was pulling my hairs off my head when you played Gura and ignored her skills(shark bite, short height) since those are the utilities that you need and will rely in the late game and not leveling your basic weapon. But yeah, first try for everything.
I love seeing first-time players getting introduced to the little in-jokes in the fandom, but I like your play-through lot since you're already experienced with VS and you're methodical when it comes to selecting upgrades.

I've been having a great time with the game (and learning about HoloLive)! Knowing VS helps to start, but this game quickly adds on to that base with lots of its own unique mechanics, which has been fun to learn. I do really like the focus on different skills and playstyles for the characters.

Bro I have 10 hours in the game and have just been struggling on stage 2, giving up and playing the fishing mini game instead, I didn’t see those tabs in the upgrade menu either, thank you.
I am still floored by how great the game is. It seems like every aspect was made to appeal to the most hardcore or hololive fans yet it is completely enjoyable for those who don’t even know what a vtuber is.

Try to prioritize on maxing the basic weapon first then skills, some characters have skills that synergized well with their basic weapons.

its always painful to watch a person's first run, missing all the obvious visual aids to let you know what is what. or people picking superfluous upgrades or stat ups instead of useful items
Honestly he had pretty good instincts for a beginner. Obviously not optimal, but if it works it works. From what I've seen, most people don't even clear stage 1 on their first run.
