Wemby gotta bring back the skyhook. He can literally live off that shot cus it’s doesn’t require a bunch of strength but only height and skill. It’s the perfect shot for him.
Great point
Shit a be unstoppable but instead he wana drive & step back with 3’s he was letting Miller Gaurd him in the paint
Skyhook is more difficult than chucking threes though.
@@jalo3087if you practiced it half as much as your 3 point shot it wouldn’t be as hard
It's perfect for him, I wanna see him do it
He can take his time with his shot, not too many going to block him. Hopefully just nerves but on defense he did great.
It's not just nerves but how much time you've spent doing something else than your sport. He's been asked for interviews all the time days and hours before the game. You need post concentration and he hasn't had that.
Second thing is who you play with and how long you've played with them. Same thing goes in other sports.
In time things will get better and better.
hes just overated guy
Did great? He got one of the nastiest posters of all time.. in his FIRST game
He’s just plainly overhyped by the media it’s gon kill his career before it gets started the way they talk about him
He's 19, y'all guys don't know basketball, when you're in rhythm and everything's flowing all those misses become makes, he actually moves pretty well out there
Draymond was on point in his podcast with PG13. Wemby will struggle on the physicality of the NBA and it will show on his Offense early up until he gains more strength, a bit more bulk and let the game come to him. But defensively, this kid will have a tremendous impact from day 1. They also noted that Wemby is just 19 and is in the perfect team that will be patient on his development.
If you look at Giannis as a rookie and now, if Wemby can have a similar development he'd become a monster in the paint. But a smooth jumper instead of bulking up would be equally good. No one could guard him at the apex with his size. Basically a different trajectory compared to the Giannis one... sth like KD who has never become a massively muscular dude. Well, let's see how this story unfolds...
@@ntnnotyou are a joke bro
Taking giannis as a standard xd
Giannis also was so skinny because he was in deep poverty most of his life
@@spbusei1029 yeah the only dude that should of been picked at number one from europe and he dominated nba defenses from the start is Doncic
If you're reffering to this game, PG was wrong. Wembanyama didn't have any trouble with the physicality, but he had trouble making shots he regularly makes. PG made a point about Wemby not being able to dribble the ball like he's in Harlem, but in reality Wemby's handles were on point most of the time this game. Also this one game is small sample size. Maybe it's his bad day, maybe not and he's a bust lol
@@spbusei1029this guy wasn't near to play in Euroleague. He played in a third level league, and he couldn't even win it. Luka Doncic came to NBA after won the Euroleague, beeing the MVP, and the best league in Europe, ACB. This one, three times. With another MVP in his pocket. And the Eurobasket with Slovenia, he won it too. Before his 20th birthday.
By the way, after all his achievements in Europe, beeing a teenager, Luka was 3th pick in the draft😅. Wemba has the greatest hype in NBA history, by far. Is he a bust? We don't know. But for sure, he isn't the greatest player that Europe has ever seen at his age, or the greatest prospect. Not even close.
Even in his worst performance he was able to help his team defensively with his height and rolling the ball as well
people calling him a bust over one summer league game 😂
ongg casuals 😭😭
Yep, better retire soon
Bro this game only shows where his weaknesses are at and that’s easy pickings for guys like K.Leonard , PG13 Draymond Lu Dort Pat Bev Marcus Smart Jaren Jackson Jr. , any elite defender is going to have Bambi looking like he in front of some headlights he’s definitely nice as a player being 7’3” doing what he’s doing but the NBA is different his handle isn’t that elite just saying
thats a response to all the hype about him breaking the NBA.
Bro he can't score in the summer league let alone score in the nba
Even though he didn't shoot very well, his passing and defense were on point!
He got stripped a ton and threw an errant pass that would've gone out of bounds if there wasn't a player behind the intended target. Wouldn't say "on point". Also missed some easy rebounds
He never shoots well, he was a 27 % from 3 in France 😭😭
@@exa0247 yeah but they said that he shoots as good as KD
Definitely needs to put on more weight I know this is his first game but very poor performance 😢
of course he just had a bad game which happens to everybody but his passes were so basic everyone can make them 😂
The first player that came to my mind after seeing him struggling in posting up smaller players was Porzingis. Porzingis uses his height advantage by shooting over smaller players in the post and midrange and he's also a good shooter. Wemby will struggle in offense at first. He's more of a perimeter player right now but he's not a shooter and it's hard to dribble without getting the ball stolen with that height. His feel for the game and rim protection will be an impact immediately.
He seems a lot more perimeter oriented than I expected, his first time playing guys who aren’t scared of him
Yeah in France they usually give him either too much room or play too close
He will take time. The key is he shouldn't lose faith in himself. Once he acclimatize, he will be one of the best.
Kai sotto will beat his ass, wemby should be undrafted not our Kai sotto.
How do you know?
@@kingofdacourt watch out tomorrow Kai Vs wemby
Keep that same sentiment with Miller.
@@kingofdacourt its obvious. When so many are expecting you to be the next great thing and you fail to deliver at the beginning, you will doubt yourself.
Defensive potential is off the charts, but if he wants to be working in the perimeter he needs a better handle
Well he’s not stocky enough to work down low…so he needs a better handle or at least a consistent jumper to open up driving lanes
Wut? He has insane handles for a guy his size
People put a lot of pressure on him cuz they know they can't block him
@@TheBallsbreakersey word for his size. He’s not trying to play like a guy his size he’s trying to play like a guard. Has to dribble like one. I see hella potential on defense I don’t see it on offense. I get it it’s summer league but he seems like a guy who’s gonna be a defensive player not the generational talent people say he is.
Soft or Nah?
The boy (yes, boy, as he is 19) played his first game with basically the whole world watching. He was feeling the pressure.

This is the first game for him. He should have been nervous and he is only 19 years old. He has a lot of possibilities. I will always cheer for him. Go Wemby🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kid has very good feel for the game and great timing on his blocked shots. Incredible how smooth his jumper is and his handle at that size. I cringe every time he jumps and lands awkwardly on those skinny legs. 🙏🏻 he avoids injury and puts on muscle asap.
Skinny as Bambi
Yes, his ankles are just waiting to get snapped.
He’s fouling. Dude gets special treatment already
of course. hes the tallest guy on the floor.hell gonna get injured with that kind of frame.
I cringe when he drives to the basket, he doesn't seem stable. Sadly its a matter of time before he gets injured.
I didn’t know how much of a willing passer he is. I feel like he’s going to be good for 4-6 assists a game at some point.
He got some assists because he was locked the f up when those smaller guys were covering him on the perimeter. I'd attribute them more to high usage than passing skill
@@chr1s631 average teenager hater:
Especially once he figures out how to really score and teams start doubling. Hes so tall nobodys gnna be able to contest the passes he'll be able to make. His IQ and natural feel for the game is really good. But you know casuals only care about box score lol hes gonna be great
@@jdbtabouret.218 What does wembys age have to do with analysing his game? Would be cool if he can really play because not many his size are able to play sports for a long period except for yao ming who was taller then wemby. yao Ming was able to play 5 full and 2 half seasons. Playing longer then 10 years very unlikely because of his size and strain on his knees.

Defensively he definitely got it. Gotta work on the jumpshot tho, lot of those shots were BRICKS. I bet he was hella nervous tho so im not gonna say too much over one game. Lets see how he handles it over time.
Plus his finishing and driving to the rim needs work. But that and his shot has plenty of time to improve, and I think it will. I also think he needs to tighten his handle, and he needs more strength, conditioning and mobility work. If he wants to make it in this league, he needs, and I mean NEEDS to put on meaningful weight. He needs to strengthen his muscles, and make sure his muscles and joints are flexible and can withstand a beating. Because this league, despite a lot of old head protest, is very physical. A hell of a lot more physical and athletic and skilled than he's used to. But he's gonna work it out. Give him time.
@@paulh.9937 absolutely agree. Especially on putting weight. He absolutely needs too.

First takeaway from watching this...he's going to be a GENERATIONAL defender. I had to add this, the way some of y'all are praying on the downfall of a 19-year-old kid is extremely goofy and lame.
Summer league game dude. Actual nba players are going to be a way better challenge. But his defense does look solid.
More like generational bust 😂
@@sxrryluv Actual NBA players are the same size as well lol
@@kwamebrownofficialnah more like injuries will do him in but not a bust. Hes new to this so he’s just finding his rhythm. Think of it like first time driving a car
More like a GATORADE defender
he’ll be fine. has a lot to work on tho. finishing thru traffic probably the most glaring issue, missed a lot of easy ones at the rim
I completely agree. But he has a lot of time to fix these issues.
He has so so much to work on. Honestly part of his game still looks like a high school player, yet he is already in the NBA. I’m sure he’ll get better, but right now there’s almost no beauty in his playing style.
He likes to play at the perimeter, but he can't shoot from the perimeter. And, he's too tall to drive effectively from the perimeter. And, he's too weak to post-up, even if he tries to come closer. He's a mid-range guy, in an era of no mid-range plays.
@@penkima4923 he can definitely shoot from the perimeter. Just had a bad shooting night
@@MicCCDDNN-rw3uz Wemby is a career 29 % three-point shooter, shooting 28 % last season. And, the 3-point line is a step further in the NBA. The current worst career 3-point shooter is Russell Westbrook, who shoots at 31 %. Wemby can shoot at that clip after several seasons of practice. In the NBA or in China.
Right off the bat, he is adjusting to NBA athleticism. Tougher shots aren’t so easy for him. When you have a dud game and your team cruises to victory. It showcases how truly valuable he is; opening lanes by calling for the ball, being the focus on offense and defense and knowing that he is there to be a superstar… I think some of the tougher angles he takes will decrease and become higher percentage plays. as he draws the double teams. Comfort and chemistry will make him more patient and less hesitant. The body control and effortlessness are there. Can’t wait to see him run the offense and have double digit block games. What a time to be a Spurs fan
There’s so much space between the ground and his hands when he dribbles. It’s too easy to steal the ball from him, especially in the paint
Looking at this I believe Victor will be very good. He made a number of nice moves, the shots just didn’t fall. His shot actually looks good, he can pass and he’s gonna block shots. He’ll be good.
After watching this I can say that, Lebron James NBA debut is the most exciting one.
Lebron siempre jugo con jugadores americanos, me imagino que eso lo hizo estar preparado desde el primer partido
Just a summer league match
Loool 🤣. Bs
@LuisHernandez-yo3ih Lebron played in high school straight to nba
? Lebron sucked in summer league too lol what are u on about
The raw potential is there, perfect setting to develop his game with San Antonio.
You can tell he has great IQ, shot wasn’t falling but it’ll come in time. Will be a great defender and rim protector!
Cant believe they tried to place this guy on the same level as LBJ in terms of NBA ready. Cant go off one game and i think with time he will develop into a top tier talent. But can you imagine what LBJ wouldve done in his summer league debut playing aginst guys his own age and experience?

When he is playing Center against Embiid, Jokic, Davis, Adebayo etc. it's not going to be pretty. He needs muscle mass desperately to play his position. But his biggest strength will be dribbling and shooting. The NBA is going to be different than playing for Metropolitans 92.
Hes not really a good dribbler OR shooter tho lol. Those are certainly not his strengths
@@enterpassword3313 yeah guards have much better handles and shots. he just has good handles and shots for a center
Bruh he will be getting bullied by point guards in the regular season 💀
He's not a good shooter, he shot 27% from 3 all season In France
You think he’s really about to play the center position against those teams? Nah man
I liked what I saw; great confidence, great aggression. It's only a matter of time.
This man potential is through the roof if he is willing to put in the work. He definitely needs to get stronger he got little guys that he switch on bullying him. He needs to stop holding the ball so low he needs to hold it over his head when his in the paint will help with turnovers. He dribbles to much and I know he has great handles for his size but him being so tall already puts him at a disadvantage when he dribbles. He so long he only needs 2-3 dribbles he’s at the rim. Everyone needs to give him time to develop and don’t expect him to take the league by storm year 1. By year 3 the league better be ready for this man cause he coming!
The looks are there especially when he drives he just has to convert he’ll be fine
Had his moments!
Like the first game of Hernangomes in Hustle movie - not all ideal but soon will be better
He got the best handle jus need to get his polish up takes few years in the league to get him 💯

I love how Wemby gets a block and the announcer says its a game changer like we've never seen Gobert and any other 7ft center in the NBA do it on a daily basis. 😂
Well we saw them but a 7.5 center with that reach is something else , he can block Gobert easily without jumping 😂. So he’s going to be a hell of a rim proctector .
Doris Burke is a great cheerleader for this overrated guy
@@DKhalil a 7'5 center with that reach is not something else sir. I believe if you are 7ft, reach should be a given and rim protection should automatically be a basic ability.
@@DKhalillol, its not something else, every 7th ft center obviously has that ability and more him that he's 7"5 ft, of course he's gonna block a lot because of his height and long arms, look how little the other players looks compare to him, it's like playing with your little brother, you're gonna block him frequently

Good and bad here, but the good is great and the bad is mostly fixable (just up to him and the coaching staff). 5 blocks in 27 minutes without knowing the defensive scheme is impressive, even in summer league. That's going to be his bread & butter, and will likely lead him to the conclusion that he needs a stronger base so he can be the diverse defender his length and timing portend he could be. Love that he's decided to come in as a playmaker--could really tell he was focused on that. The even better news in that regard is how smooth those passes were and how quickly he was able to read situations in a fairly loose game. Popovich & co. helped Tim Duncan out a lot back in the early years when he was struggling with double teams by having a rigid system around him so he could pass to spots rather than scanning amidst chaos. Wembanyama is clearly going to be a more dynamic passer who doesn't need that, but some structure will allow this part of his game to flourish even more (as well as playing with more talented players).
The bad I saw wasn't the FG% necessarily, but individual facets of those misses. First, I don't buy it at all when announcers, podcasters, & pundits say "he's so comfortable." The guy looked visibly nervous to me, which is an issue that could clear up by the game on Sunday. More noteworthy, but still fixable, is that he doesn't have consistent form when shooting. Surprisingly, the problem isn't what his arms or hands are doing in the motion, but his body. He leans a little one way on a shot then a little the other way on the next. You can really see it in the videos of him in unstructured shootarounds. He looks like any one of us kind of meh-ing the ball at the rim while we wait for our friends to show for a pick-up game. Great shooters tout consistency as the key, and so-called shot-makers, who aren't the best shooters necessarily (like Kobe), still had next level body control. You lean because that's what is given to you or because that's part of the move you're doing. Leaning just a touch for no reason doesn't help anything, and with his size is unnecessary most of the time. This is an easy thing to coach, but it will have to be a focus; if he is a below average jumpshooter, then the league will just fall back and his impressive handle on the outside will be a feature of style rather than utility. The only thing that really concerned me was the misses at the rim. Twice he got past people only to not be able to finish a dunk or layup. Maybe that's strength, maybe it's conditioning, maybe it's nerves. I don't know, and highlight reels show him doing what you'd expect him to be able to do around the rim, but this is the one thing that felt like a bit of a mystery to me.
The Spurs staff must be so excited to go to work everyday--Wembanyama is a unique prospect, and figuring out how to help someone of his size and skillset develop must be a lot of fun for people who spend all day thinking about basketball anyway.
His defence is elite, which we knew - his offence is raw but possibly great potential, which we knew

@@isaacmatthias4201 Giannis was skinny when he entered NBA look it up Giannis Rookie Year
Daym, I love how mostly everyone is optimistic about Wemby's potential.
He’s looking like a new born deer out ther 🤣🤣
He was straight up nervous. Dude is gonna be a beast 19 yrs old still might even grow taller got the skill set to be a Mega Star in the league🙏
You right, I never saw him missing like this in France
@@corentinm5169 cause france is trash lol
NBA media is something else, calling him the best prospect after LeBron, lol. He has been playing for the French league only and his team did not even win there. By the way, I am from Europe and wish him all the best in NBA.
@@matejatejka6775 when you say france league you mean farmer league right 🤣🤣 French are only strong for surrender! i give him 6 month in nba then he will come back to his trash country
Ok he had good open looks and created good shots. Was aggressive to the rim. Great handles and defense. He was nervous but when he catches a rhythm it’s gonna be scary
He needs to get stronger. He was just caught up in the hype and expectations from him by the crowd. And every player who went up against him wanted to do something spectacular to outshine the No.1 overall Pick. Wemby will be a Star trust me. He just needs to focus
Post up boy!.. your 7’4..
G-B-O-A-T - Greatest Bust of All Time
Nice comment 🤡
I didn't know a bust would win rookie of the year
good game victor wemby1❤️
in few years time no doubt he'll reach his full potential and play at the level of beasts like Zhou Qi
you drunk?zhou qi is also a bust
They gotta draw up some plays for him to catch it at the elbow. Going 1 on 1 at the top of the key won’t cut it against these athletes. He also hasn’t adjusted to how American Basketball allows traveling, switching pivots before dribbling, etc. This was a terrible start for him offensively.
Before this game: HE WILL BREAK THE NBA RIGHT AWAY. JUST LIKE LEBRON
After this game: leave him alones he is so young waaaah
Reality check
Trust me dat boi bout to dominate this whole shit seen all I need to see
He is already good on defense. Take it slow. You will get there. I love that he kept shooting.
He’s going to be a turnover machine from what I saw in this game.
Yeah because he totally won’t be coached and instructed not to dribble in traffic.
He is a finished product at 19 and all these easily fixable things won’t be fixed. Might has well just retire now.
@Dr.HowieFeltersnatch bro is 🗑 he should have stayed in Europe
@@thewarrior8380 19yo getting this much media hype and a sold out crowd expecting him to drop 20p. Next game he will dominate the pressure just got to him this game

There is so much more to bball than putting up 20ppg.
There are actually tons of people in the gleague that could score 20ppg consistently in the NBA, but they all are horrible on defense and can’t pass.
This dude is going to be a perennial DPOY candidate while being a matchup nightmare.
it's a summerleague game bro.
Field is bigger, perimeter is further, air quality is different, players mentality is different, defenders are stronger and team play is lower and lots and lots of pressure on this 19 year old kid for success on his rookie year. Still managed 5 blocks.
