The texture of his voice was different and didn't suit actors. May be that was the reason. However, when singers like Altaf raja and Mika Singh got to sing songs in Bollywood, jolly too deserved more songs
There you said it. His voice texture isn't that attractive and unusual. Certainly do not suit lead actor.

मैं ने आप का जॉली जी के विषय पर आप के विश्लेषण को ध्यान पूर्वक देखा। परंतु जो एक बात आप नही बता पाये की उनके द्वारा स्वर बद्ध एक भी दुख भरे गीत नहीं है। दूसरे किसी भी कलाकार पे जॉली जी का स्वर बैठता नहीं था।

@@sachinkumar1717 गीत ऐसे नहीं प्राप्त होते जैसे आप कह रहे है। नायक के लिये गायक का चयन होता हैं। परंतु कई प्रमाण हैं जब गीत की शैली को प्राथमिकता मिलती हैं । हाथी मेरे साथी, चित्रपट में सभी गीत किशोर जी द्वारा स्वर बद्ध है। परंतु जब " नफरत की दुनिया को छोड़ कर " गीत की बारी आई तो संगीतकार एव गीतकार ने रफी को चुना । दीलिप कुमार के सर्वाधिक गीत रफी ने गाये परंतु जब बारी आई " साला मैं तो साहब बन गया " तब सभी ने किशोर जी को चुना। मुकेश जी द्वारा स्वर बद्ध गीत शेष सभी नायक पर उतनी नही जंचती थी। जितनी राज कपूर पर जंचती थी। पोस्ट को ध्यान से पढ़िए आप । मैं ने लिखा है कि किसी भी नायक पर उनकी वाणी जचती नहीं है।

Sahiba film flopped. As rishi kapoor also a faded actor in 90s. That's why jolly Mukherjee song could not get that much lime light.

I had the opportunity to meet him personally.. I was a participant in a Bengali TV reality show where he was the judge along with Sadna Sargam and Sudesh Bhosle.. He is a great personality :)

@@deepakratnakumar5379 i know the main song is sung by Amit Kumar but at the climax we can hear Jolly Mukherjees voice at the same song. That is also the highlight of the song even though a single line but more prominent.

It is very good of you to mention about Pancham da's anecdote, which very close people like us are familiar about. But sadly, you did not bother to mention about his skills as an ultimate music arranger for all of Hariharan ji's albums...starting from Haazir 1 till Haazir 2, making it a total of 8 albums, including Gulfaam, Kaash, Jashn, Reflections,Horizon, Paighaam, Dil ki Baat and the infamous "Mareez-e-ishq' being his first ever arrangement. He also worked as an assistant arranger with Amar Haldipur ji for Asha ji's famous album Aabshar-e-Ghazal, that was composed by Hariharan ji.
Apart from that, he has composed several fusion albums for Hollywood, including one for Beyonce, and is one of the very few Indian artists to have been mentioned in the International Music Records. His compositions play on the radio till date, and his Bengali album was awarded as the best MD and best singer in San Francisco.
His last Bollywood release was for Dhoom and Jungle, after which he decided to gracefully quit the industry, to make way for newer generation singers. Jollyda has always been very choosy about his work, and is a very passionate musician, who never settles for less than perfection. Hence, saying that he just recorded 20 songs in a span of 25 years is very insulting for an artist of his stature.
Also, sharing one anecdote. The title song of Shahenshah was initially recorded by him, which later Kishore da dubbed. And it was Jolly da's brother in law Bhanu Gupta, who was one of the lead guitarists with Pancham da, wrongly mentioned as brother.

Ur reporting is highly appreciable. In the 90's some music companies were wonderfully marketing their favourite music directors duo & a few singers who were actually stereo typed. The price of the politics was paid by the extremely talented & established singer of the 80's unfortunately.
