I often wonder how many people know that Canadians Soldiers ( not Americans, Brits, French or Australians) took "Vimy Ridge" after 4 DAYS. The English and French had fought the Germans for over 2 years and the most either side got was a few yards here and there. It was the battle that many believed was the Birth of our Nation as it was the first time the 4 Canadian Divisions fought as one. The cost to us was high with over 10,000 soldiers dying or wounded. Yet, it was a defining moment as, for the first time, Canada emerged from under the shadow of Britain. In 1922, with thanks from France, Canada received 200 acres of land in perpetuity and it is where the most exquisite Monument to our war dead is built (right on top of the ridge that the Germans held) and on the Monument, it is written, in French & English "To the valor of their countrymen in the Great War and in memory of their sixty thousand dead this monument is raised by the people of Canada." It took 10 years to build and was dedicated by King Edward VIII in 1936. Lastly, "In Flanders Fields" one of the best known poem sung or read during Remembrance & Memorial Day all over the world was written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae who was a Canadian physician who was a medic during WWI. He wrote this memorable poem on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. Canada has much to be proud of, not only in past wars but it is also the Country that started the Peace Keeping Troop, in the 1950's at the Panama Canal.. As the song says, " And the solders cried "Oh Canada I'd die to keep you free", which I would gladly do. I love Country so very much. Lest we forget!!!
I'm an American living in Canada with grandfathers and a dad who served in the US military. This song always gives me chills. No one can say that Canadians aren't as patriotic as Americans. Anyone who does needs a kick in the shins.
I am proud to be Canada.Thank you, Canadian soldiers. You keep fight for our country, we will never forget. You know those 97 people who disliked? Apparently they are angry little 12 year olds who do nothing but play CoD and think violence, shooting, and terrorism is a joke. Thank you for reading this...
My great grandfather was in WWII, he was an aircraft mechanic as well as a soldier, although he did not die in the war, in which I am great-full for this as I was able to meet him, he has since passed, and it's videos and memorials like this that brings my pain for him back, it was him who inspired me to become an air cadet with the Canadian Department of Defence, and him who inspired my love for aircraft, and greater respect for those lost in battle. Rest in Peace all who fought, Rest in Peace Grandpa.
Remembrance Day is about remembering the soldiers who killed and died. In both World Wars, Canadian soldiers rallied to the calls of King George V and King George VI to protect the British Empire. They fought under the Union Flag and the Red Ensign. They did not go their to protect "freedom" or "democracy". They went to protect the Empire, which means the land, the people, the culture, the laws, the values, the King and the honour. God Save our Queen and Heaven Bless the Maple Leaf Forever.
Never, ever, ever will the brave sacrifices of the men of Canada be forgotten by the motherland. We in the United Kingdom will always hold a special place in our heart for all those men of the British Empire and the Dominions/Commonwealth who twice came to our aid in the fight against great evil. The Canadians showed their steel and their courage at Vimy Ridge above all else, the rightful birth of a new and great nation. Thankyou people of Canada.
"We'll never have a future if we don't remember the past" Unnamed veteran, you truly are a wise man. More people need to remember what we've gone through to know where we're heading. Thank you all for your service, especially on this Remembrance Day Lest We Forget
I remember watching this on global news few yrs back with my papa. He was a WW2 veteran with the PPCLI. Thank you to all the veterans who have served their country and to those currently serving.
I am joining the US Army in Dec. amd I just want to say, thank you to our allies who have given us strength with there sacrifice and strength. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
God bless you all Canada! We're grateful for your help and support here in the States from the US Civil War onwards because we couldn't;ve done it without you.
I remember my next door neighbor was a WW1 veteran he became my idol cause i knew in history an the stories of are brave men who thought for are country an i wish i was in his shoes to experience what it was like at that time.
As a Citizen of Britain, I have serious respect for the Canadians, You are the brother that has stood by us through WW1,WW2 and every war since, You are the little Brother we found and raised until you was ready to leave and survive on yourself, I salute every Canadian Soldier that has died serving for their country and in history for the king/queen! you are part of the commonwealth and out closest ally! As a Brit, I thankyou, God bless Canada and God save the Queen!
The thought alone, having someone i love, out there, and not knowing if he will survive or not, is already tearing me apart! I Pray for all the soldiers, may as many as posible come home.
I can't believe that people can dislike this! My grandparents are immigrants from Holland, which was liberated by the Canadian soldiers. Always thinking of my brother who is a soldier
Young lads and lasses all. They'll never feel the days of winter, they'll never know weakness, they'll never know sickness. For them it shall always be a warm summer, their spirits will be strong and well being will stay with them for all time.
We are too far removed from the lessons of the past. Most of us have no idea of what true hardship and bloodshed are like. Most have no idea what Pillars our soldiers are and how they are the thin Wall between us and re-learning those lessons. Blood, sweat, tears and the Hardship of the few are the Shield for the many. The shield that most never even notice. I hope that there will never be a time again when they will be forced to notice that Shield, and Fear its failure... God Bless the Few!
I can not press more on everyone's hearts how greatfull my country and I are for all those Canadians and me being from Arnhem, also those brave Brits for liberating us. If I had a hat I surely would take it off!
I agree. This is not something to dislike or even laugh at. To those dislikers I would say rethink what your saying. These people are dying for us, DYING! Please rethink this those people.
Britan thanks every single country who fought with us the reason we fight is because we take care of our friends why because it is what we are born to do
My father was a military firefighter i remember how hard i cried when he was deployed to ontario for training for 5 months when i was 11. I cant imagine sending a father, a brother, a sister, a mother , to Afghanistan for a year. God bless these brave men and women and their families for the sacrifices they make.
how can anyone dislike a tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom? do they understand that without the sacrifice these hero's have made they would be living in a world without choices? from this PROUD CANADIAN I SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VETERANS PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE
My heart just sinks when I watch these videos. I do not respect anyone as much as I repect these soldiers. They died for us, we live free because of these soldiers.
I am a veteran....I mourn the loss of my friends and fellow soldiers every day. Please do not let their sacrifice be in vain. Remember them, honour them. They gave the ultimate sacrifice for your freedom.
I like this. We should remember all the veterans, they died to save us all. I am a ex serviceman and proud to be one. My father was a national serviceman in the 50's.
I hade family in that war and i lost every one of them and one of them lived to see me born then died a couble min later so if eneyone dose not show them respect will have to answer to me
I am in Air Cadets (Canadian) and Remembrance Day at school was the hardest. Seeing all the people crying. One of my teachers has a son who attended and only one person (the nicest girl I know) came up to him and shook his hand, crying her eyes out while thanking him. That moment made me tear up and I'm tearing up right now just typing it. Lest we forget.
Those 59 people who hit dislike have no heart, soul or respect for their country or their soldiers. I'm an American living in Canada and I'm very proud to be the daughter and granddaughter of Veterans. And proud of the sacrifices they've made.
I will never forget, I have great uncles who served in World War two, my grandfather was in the air force, and went to Florida for the Cuban Missile Crisis. I've seen my mother leave for months at a time, my father trains the men and women who go serve in missions in Afghanistan. I'm enlisting in officer training in September.
I was privileged to serve on exchange at CFB Borden in the mid-80s. My 2 years there confirmed Canadians amongst the very best of our Allies. Thanks, Folks.
How can 80 people dislike this. It does not matter if you like the choice of song or not, this song is a tribute to the fallen soldiers. From canada and abroad if you disrespect the people who have given their lives and those who are still overseas fighting, or defending their homeland, there is something wrong with you. Remember: to ensure freedom, all gave some and some gave all. Lest we forget.
god bless you canada! these are sights that are seen all over the free world. as an ex soldier (scottish/british) a wee woman in pollok (glasgow), inverness, edinburgh, falkirk, aberdeen, perth, all over scotland, england, ireland and wales, share your sorrow, and your hope. the bad guys will not prevail. jim...xxx
Thank you to every man and woman willing to sacrifice their lives for their country - and a thank you to those have made the ultimate sacrifice. There is no way that we could ever repay these brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen.
Canadian, American, British, French, German, or Australian. Any soldier that died in war gave their lives for their country and for what they believed was right. RIP soldiers of the world, your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Whether or not you agree with what these soldiers have done, they are the men and women who have, and do today, risk their lives to defend your right to have that opinion, whether they agree with you or not. That is true character, and I will be forever grateful for the sacrifices they have made.

This is such a wonderful song. We will always thank God for the men & women who gave their lives for our country to be free; as well as not forget those who came home as wounded soldiers who need our love so that they emotionally heal;- as well as our support financially.
As a retired American Serviceman I found this video to be very sweeeeeeeeet. 5 stars and inspirational. I am honored to have served with the Canadians. It is too bad some sad soul had to desecrate this video with his disrespectful comments. Less than 1% of a nations populace serve their country. There will always be those haters who have a right to voice their hate, a right available to them due to the sacrifice of their fellow citizens. God bless Canada.
i will be going to basic training for the british army in September 2010 and i is a real honor to think i will be serveing with people who are so determined to secure the furture of the world countrys. We will never forget what they have give for the safety and freedom of the people of the world. Rest in peace no matter what country you come from.
