I think it would be kinda cool if they had Barry travel back in time to save himself from Thawne. That way his mom would die, and the show would be an eternal paradox.

As they walked out of the hospital, you were going to see other side characters from throughout the season like T-Dog, Carol, etc.
But due to the actor who plays Hershel passing away, that idea was scrapped and ultimately gave us the crappy ending that we now have.

We've seen this at the beginning of an episode/season and the rest is just him stopping metahumans. He'll be saving a person and then the team says "hey they're a person about to go nuclear" and the rest of the episode or season/half a season is all about who is doing this to people. Sounds boring, yes and maybe. But done right and it could be a good or even great ending. With a message like "even through the toughest battles, through my lowest lows, through the darkest times, I'll always be here to save you" and zooms out to show the city. Flashpoint is actually what his life was supposed to be. In the comics, when he undid Thawne killing his mom, it resets Barry's life to how it's supposed to be and he was supposed to get his powers much later on in life. Originally, his mom was able to see him become the Flash. In Flashpoint, he basically gets that, but, he caused temporal shockwaves that fucked up everyone else's lives.

In the final battle he's fighting the red death, and since for whatever reason they made the red death Batwoman from the cw show, she and him are in the final battle, Kate killed iris, and this time it's impossible to bring her back, Barry and Kate are having the biggest fight ever, their suits are torn, both are out of breath, but Barry is losing, hard, he starts to run again, this time he runs around the globe, they both do, hundreds of times in a single second, they both collide, an explosion of infinite mass, there's only two things left, Kate and Barry, everything else is just a white void, Barry says to her "it's not too late, we can fix this" Kate replies with "look around, we did this, nothing is left, this is all your fault" Barry says "listen, I lost the love of my life, my children wiped from history, the only thing we can do is run, so let's run, there's no excuse for you, but we can both fix this if we run, all my life I've been told to run, whenever a problem arose, that was my motivation, to run, it would fix it, I don't even know if it'll fix anything, but if anything happens, at least I'll know I died trying, so what else do we have to lose, if it doesn't work then we'll know we tried, so we may as well, so as all of my mentors and friends have been telling me for years, run Kate, run" she stands back up, they both start running, as they run, Barry has flashbacks from every major thing in the show, Kate has flashbacks to every loss she's ever had, as they run Ezra Miller's flash(because why not, it doesn't have to be him in the shit, just a look alike) joins in, they run together, jay Garrick joins back in, thawne, every speedster who was a well written character comes back just to run, they start to merge as the universe swirls around them, they all start to disappear, their particles absorbing into Barry, he screams in pain, the universe begins to reform, the red sky shows up again, Barry runs into the storm and inside the storm begins to transform into energy, all that's visible is yellow lightning, he and the storm disappear, flash shows up when thawne is about to save people, to become the new flash, Barry shows up to save them first though, and that's what creates thawnes hatred for him, he runs again, this time he's in the speed force, he talks to it, "save iris, save cisco, after I'm gone, make sure they're all safe" he says as he becomes a yellow lightning bolt, he falls out as he sees everyone alright, the lightning bolt hits the window, striking Barry Allen, not the flash, nobody, just Barry, Barry wakes up in a hospital bed, in star labs, repeating the cycle

I heard that Red Death is going to be there for the first 2 episodes to introduce a new multiverse, but only time will tell, though hopefully there is an ultimate final battle between the speedsters

I would love to see the future flash from thawne's timeline, who is the flash right now, to go back in time to the night Nora Allen was murdered because we never truly see in any season or episode how the future flash of that timeline came and from where and he just left without any trace whatsoever. That would really make this the best season ever and create a time loop.
