[#7] The 10 Albums I’ve listened to most often over the last 3 years….probably!!

  • Ok I resisted as long as I could, but I find these so interesting I had to do one! These are the 10 albums I have listened to the most over the past 2 or 3 years - except Royal Blood’s self titled debut, that would be in my list but having played it a couple of weeks ago I must have put it somewhere ‘safe’ and couldn’t find it, so drafted in a classic supersub. No science to it, just going off feel for which albums I reach for most often. Culled from a list of about 20 candidates. As ever, the banging albums left out would make a cracking part 2…

Hi 👋 I have a large music collection, I'm in my sixties in age. I like jazz and i had the pleasure of seeing Miles Davis in concert here in New Zealand where i live. He toured here back in the 1980s , and it was around the time of his Tutu album release. His back up band were very funky. He was in his sixties at the time. I liked the Beatles in the 1960s. They excited me when i first heard them.

Good to see you on your channel ! I'm gonna take a shot at this also. Love to see Sabbath, and Miles ! Jack Johnson had one of his biggest fights ever here in Reno. Johnson-Jeffries back in 1910 ( Fight Of The Century ) right down the street from where I work ! Slint is from Louisville, Kentucky, right next to Indiana... Love that record, as well. I could use a copy of "Liege And Lief".. and more Sandy Denny ! Watching the rest.. Nice one, Jamie ✌

It was a good fun video as It really took some thought - plus it was great I listened to them all in the preceeding days. I'm a massive boxing fan yes it was that was a huge fight winner got $75,000 - that was a huge amount in 1910. Ah nice i love that Slint album. The debut is decent not quite on the same level. Liege and Lief that's one if the best albums of all time, never mind folk albums. Love Sandy Denny she's my favourite female singer. I have 2 copies Liege and Lief i'd gladly send you one, but it would prob cost more than it's worth! Thanks for watching take care.

Love a bit of Fairport..Leige & Leif is a classic.
    Sabbath and Hendrix, very cool.
I used to play Jack Johnson to my son when he was a baby and it would be guaranteed to get him off to sleep every time !..he's almost 18 now but still loves listening to him.
Blonde and Blonde is terrific, part of that amazing trio of 65/66 period with Highwsy 61 and Bringing it all Back Home, equally great imo.
The medley on Abbey Road is just wonderful.

Thanks Rob. Now Liege and Lief I must admit I’m a bit addicted to! Love Sabbath and Hendrix I play something by them most days tbh.
Hang on are you talking about Jack Johnson the Hawaiian singer/songwriter? If so then same with my eldest kids they used to love the Curious George movie and still listen to him now!
Yeah I really love that trilogy of BD albums. I found a NM UK first press of both Highway 61 Revisited and Bringing it all back home (plus Another side of Bob Dylan) last weekend, but didn’t show them on my latest finds video as wanted to do a separate one - but I guess the cat is well and truly out of the bag now lol! 😂

My most recent finds are Angel Claire by Art Garfunkel and A Song Will Rise by Peter Paul and Mary- their Gilgarry Mountain (Whiskey in the Jar) is perfection.

I have to admit that I don't know much of Black Sabbath, but I really appreciate their music. I don't know some of the other albums you mentioned here either, so I'm going to take a listen to them tonight. You're exposing me to new music, so thanks! I noticed Lou Reed in the background. Lou Reed issued a signed edition of book also called Transformer. I regret not buying that... Hard to come by now. You have an AMAZING collection. Love your videos and your albums. Keep them coming! P.S. I remember trying to learn Hey Joe and Wind Cries Mary on my guitar when I was a teenager. Now I have to try to play those tracks again. GREAT music. And I LOVE that Dylan album!

Black Sabbath were an incredible band the first 6 albums are amazing. The albums they made with Ronnie James Dio (Mob Rules and Heaven and hell) are also both fantastic albums. If you wanted to start with one I’d probably recommend Paranoid or Black Sabbath Vol.4.
Yes you should have def bought the Transformer book that would have been worth a fortune now!
Same yes I bought red Strat and thought I’d be Jimi Hendrix! Didn’t work out that way though I have a downtuned Telecaster now so more like a b-tech Keef lol! Blonde on Blonde I played again tonight - even talking about it made me want to play it again!

Interesting selection, lot of classics. the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is probably one of my favorite early Sabbath record. And wow, nice to see some Fairport Convention! I love Liege & Lief too, as i am very into FC at the moment. Sandy Denny had a great voice indeed, and this is undoubtedly their best record , certainly the one they reached their own proper sound with...as they eventually managed to craft their own English folk style, after gradually moving away from the American folk model (such as all the cover versions of Emitt Rhodes, Joni Mitchel and Bob Dylan that they've done on the first albums). Revolver and Abbey Road are also in my top 3 (with Sgt Peppers), and I just found a copy of Bonde On Blonde so I totally validate your selection 😊Cheers mate, Regards from Canada

    • @lifeofvinyl3003
      @lifeofvinyl3003  Před 11 měsíci

Cheers! Well it depends really. I think it mainly comes down to a country of origin thing particularly with older albums. The record companies weren’t generally shipping master tapes around the world so UK copies of Beatles albums could reasonably be expected to be the best sounding versions for example, and I think they are in that case but it might come down to personal preference at the end of the day. However it’s definitely not the case with the ‘Are you Experienced?’ tho, that 2020 UHQR version sounds much better than any other version I personally have heard. Take care cheers
