That’s how this one started
Nice to see a Pinto build, usually people do a Vega build. Nice work 👍😎
Thank you. I have really came to like the looks of it
I used to know a guy that had a pinto with a blown 302 thing was wicked fast
@@mattg3971 did he ever rebuild it?
That's ok, I'm helping a friend of mine put a Coyote in a 68 Camaro w/ a built C6 and a 9" rear end w/3.73 gears.
I’m all about someone building their car however they want.
That’s what I did.
*EDITED COMMENT*
"Wow! Building a unicorn that costs 5 times as much to do for no extra benefit, no more power, and no more reliability... Anyways, it's his to do what he wants"...
I had been told that by a lot of people and I stated that as a JOKE.
I'm actually doing a 302 swap on a 1997 nissan hardbody and I've been told similar statements. My whole reason is I had a running 302 given to me by my neighbor and my mustang friends heard about what I'm doing so they all started bringing me stuff to do it with, donating to the build. Cam, link bar roller lifters, hardened pushrods, 600 holley double pumper, performer intake, msd streetfire, msd distributor, button, cap and plug wires, headers, clutch kit, race harmonic balancer, GT40P heads... In parts to build the motor alone I'm honestly pushing the point to where it would have almost cost the same to LS swap it. I seriously didn't think it would but I'm too deep to back up now.
@@motorman111jld that’s what hot ridding is really all about. You have a lot of people I who have enough interest in your project that they want to see it happen. That’s the good stuff, the stuff that builds life long friendships.
@@bluecollarperformance1331 Absolutely! I'll never bash someone's project. I may joke around. But it's to each one's personality poured out into their personal build. I'll post videos when I get back on my project. Right now I'm in the process of opening my own mechanic shop. Maybe a couple more months and I'll be able to get back on it.

I find it amusing at how angry the ford purists get over my car.
I’m like “settle down Billy Bob, it’s not like I cut up a Shelby Mustang “
I'm 41 now but when i was 14 my good friend bought a 79 Pinto bubbleback wagon. He restored the car and by 16 it had a brand new black stock interior with the addition of some black recaros out of a 86 mustang. He also swapped the 5.0 and the 5 speed out of the 86. He had the car painted Viper red/ with a black retro graphic running up to the window. He moved to Buffalo so i don't see the car much anymore, but he does still own it and we had a blast in that Pinto!
They make great little hot rods
That’s what it’s all about enjoying something you built for your personal pleasure
100% that was a fun car, and dead reliable at pretty significant power levels.
Nice ride !!! Haven’t seen a pinto since the 90s high school days !!
Thank you
When I was younger, I am 64. I hated pintos and loved Vegas. Now, older and smarter, I really like that damn pinto! Great job!
Lol, thank you. This car kind of fell in my lap. The property it was sitting on had sold and it was going to be scrapped, I got it offered to me and jumped on it. The build happed with parts I mostly already had.
Its funny how we change with age, We are the same age, And I feel the same way, I have owned both Pinto and a vega, I have a 67 chevelle 300 Deluxe I have own 30 years 700 hp 690 ft , 671 blower, But I would Like to own My 69 Gran prix, SJ.again Over them all.
@@brianbloom1799 I was lucky enough to be able to buy my 66 GMC back after it sat for 15 years. The first video on that on drops tomorrow, and it’s one of those that has a lot of meaning to me. I took my now 28 year old daughter to her first day of kindergarten in that truck
That's a sweet ride!! It sounds just excellent! I've always loved these and owned three of 'em. One had the 2800 V6, stripped of emissions and with Cherry Bomb duals. Fun stuff. Your build is obviously done right, and that's great country for a street machine too.
Thank you very much. It’s a lot of fun to drive around, and it surprises me at how many people have pinto stories.
Being a Hot Rodder beginning in the late 70’s I can really appreciate this little Pinto build. I’m sure it hooks up about as well as my SBC Monza did from a dig. lol
Love it, great job!
Thank you. Traction isn’t its strong suit, lol.
I swapped a 302 into a 71 pinto back in the late 70’s. Fun to drive but traction, especially in the wet, left something to be desired

I had a '77 Cruising Wagon that I put a 347 and C-4 into. A 8 inch rearend from a '72 V-8 Maverick with 3.55 gears finished the drive train. Car was a blast to drive! I wish I still had it.......
They’re getting hard to find.
Some of the parts I had to buy to get this one looking right were ridiculous
What a rad car. I had 4-5 Pinto's growing up and raced a couple at the local circle track too. Love them :)
This one has made me a fan

I really wanted to keep mine all under the hood and throw some steelies on it for wheels.
I just missed keeping it all under the hood, and my wife liked these wheels, so I did what any strong and independent man would do and did what she liked ;)

What a beast! THAT pinto sounds awesome
Thank you. Lots more videos coming of it getting ripped on
I owned the same color,23 years ago. Mine was 2300, 4 speed shift, original. Lasted with me 10 years. And was my everyday family car. Never have any issues. Regular maintenance. Very good car with bad reputation stories.
Very cool! I had a 71 notch back that was built and fun to drive, then I got married.
I love your username, that’s brilliant.
It has always surprised me at how most people have some sort of connection with pintos
Back in 1972 I had a 71 Pinto bought it new. Hot Rod magazine did a V8 swap on one listed everything that was needed. So in the summer of 72 I got a 289 W/C4 trans and started the job. A 9" rear end from a 57 Ford was like it was made for the swap a complete bolt in operation. My plans was to use the stock 289 to work the bugs out, then build a nice mild built engine. Ended up someone wanted the car bad so I sold it.
There are a lot of cars that I wish I’d have kept, but on the other side of the coin, selling them has alloyme to build bigger and better.
Now I have a pinto. I’m sure that says something about my business acumen, but I’m not exactly sure what it is…..
Sweet Ride 🤩Glad I found your channel neighbor 🤠 I 'm currently a station wagon loving Fayettevillian, moved here from Tennessee in 2000 trying to relocate soon to Eureka Sprangs ,Berryville area...NWA is so amazing and beautiful!
It really is. I used to be really into bikes, and my out of state friends were always blown away when I’d show them around this part of the world.
The title of your video said watch! Looks awesome! The thing I like is a sound coming from a car like that makes it even better
Holy crap!
I had that exact same Pinto wagon in that exact color back in '73. I'm amazed that any survived at all.
Lol, this was a honest to goodness bought new by a little old lady car that was a one owner until 2018.
I’m sure cash for clunkers claimed a lot of them.
Hope that rear bumper is sturdy🔥
I had a friend in HS that had a V8 swap in his Pinto, a FORD 302, as God intended :)
I don’t think God cares a whole lot about what engine I put in my Pinto.
I think V8 Pintos as a whole are cool, mine flys even turned way down. I’m going to do some reinforcement on the leaf mounts and front rails and turn up the boost before my local dragstrip opens.
so true!!!
@@bluecollarperformance1331 God may not care, but if it’s wearing a blue oval from the factory, Ford guys stick with Ford motors, bow ties belong in Chevy products, in my opinion anyway, not taking anything away from your build, it looks amazing 🤩
@@ST_DCT thank you.
I’m a big fan of just building what you want.
I don't live to far from there either, I would like to see that thing go down the strip. I didn't know there was a drag strip around Harrison. But I live on the MO AR state line by Carr lane. That's awesome, don't find too much like that around here. I swapped a 5.3 in a 92 yukon, but it decided it wanted 6.0 and chucked a rod out of the side. But that is awesome.
I absolutely love this car! I owned several Pintos when I was younger, and I would love to have another one. Beautifully done sir!
Thank you very much
Cool. Nice to see it on the road.
back in the 80s we use to put 351 Windsors in them good cheap fun lol
I can honestly say it was the Pinto that started my customization of cars. I was 16 in 1985 and I bought a 74 Pinto wagon. Brown with the wonderful plastic woodgrain. I cut the roof in a way that I was able to slide the rear hatch forward. Basically turning it into an elcamino. I grafted on a set of fiberglass fenders on the rear so I was able to run dual wheels. It was ugly, poorly done. Hideous body work. Just an eyesore to everyone else. Except my dad. He could see I had a talent hiding so it was game on from there. Unfortunately dad died a few years later and was never able to see how I turned out as an adult. But I owe everything to him.
I feel you there. When I first started messing with cars I did awful work, but I kept trying until I got good at it.
I’ve made my living for 29 years now as a mechanic, and I’m blessed to still have my dad, and he’s pretty impressed by some of the things I do.
I have a 1972 Pinto Squire (woodgrain) wagon with a 289/ 4 speed from a '67 Ford Falcon. Original AZ car, zero rust, no body damage, but badly sunburned.
They’re awesome cars.
I just sold mine this evening, but I truly enjoyed it for two years

Building that car was an exercise in stuffing 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound box
@@bluecollarperformance1331 I appreciate the uniqueness
@@privatedata665 thank you. I saved the car from the scrapyard and I used the parts I had already accumulated to build it.
Some guys get twisted up about the LS in it, the reason I went that way is that I usually have 3 or 4 of them laying around, the TH350 is the same deal, I think I have 3 extras right now, and the 8.8 was cheap and available.
Ok. I love that thing. That was my first car and I loved it. It wasn’t as cool as your but it was mine so I rolled it all through high school. Keep us posted on any upgrades you’ve made.

Sweet ride! I'd love to find something like this to swap my LQ4 and 4L80 into.
Bumper looks dam good !
Thank you. Pinto bumpers are unobtainable, so that was the best thing I could come up with
It was made from the 1971 to 1980 model years. Pinto was the smallest American Ford car since 1907. It was Ford's first subcompact vehicle in North America. The Pinto was manufactured in three body styles: two-door sedan, three-door hatchback and two-door station wagon. All I remember is the Pinto became infamous for bursting into flames if its gas tank was ruptured in a collision... The wagon gives ya a better chance I guess
The crazy thing is that the reputation for them becoming Mali to v cocktails when hit from the rear was exaggerated.
At this point, there have been more deaths from fire in Teslas than Pintos.
@@bluecollarperformance1331 Over three million Pintos were produced over its ten-year production run...In 2022 alone Tesla made 1.31 million vehicles. I believe what you say about Teslas.
Real nice job👍🏿 Beef up that rear suspension to stop that axle wrap!
That’s on the agenda. I’m probably going to try to tackle that next weekend
Ooh Noo you need a cowl induction hood scope instead of cutting sections out of the hood but other than that I love it, Pintos with V8’s in them are badass if you can find a Pinto !!!
I’m thinking I may try to get the center bulge up higher without putting a scoop on it.
I’d like to keep it stockish looking.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 Everyone has the right to do as they please with their car. If they choose to put a piece of junk GM engine in that car, that's their right to do so. 🤣🤣
I get it though, it's simply a matter of price and availability, it's the same reason why guys used to build the old Ford Coupes with small block Chevys. Chevy in their prime produced some of the greatest engines ever built. It's hard to argue that when you consider engines like the 327, 396, 409 and the legendary 427, but in recent years I feel like their quality has taken a drastic nose dive. I'm definitely a Ford guy for a lot of reasons, but I'm not knocking your build because ya did a great job on it.

Damage really wasn't that bad but of course repairs would've cost more than the value of the car, so.... Anyway congrats on a nice build. 👍

Definitely worth getting rid of the rust
The patina is cool, but ford starts with "F" not "G"
Clamp the front section of your leaf springs, that will help control axle wrap. Also, caltracs work fantastic. Great job!
Thank you. The leaf perches have rubber in them, and I think that’s where a lot of my flex is coming from.
I’ve got to get it fixed before the track opens.
@@bluecollarperformance1331 traction bars man, everybody knows leaf spring cars have to have traction bars to stop the spring wrapup that leaf springs suffer from.
@@bluecollarperformance1331 I'm planning on adapting to the Granada style spring perches and doing caltracs, maybe explorer shock mounts if i go cheap.. My rubbers look toasted.
@@firepinto I’ve 100% destroyed the rubber mounts at the perches. It’s parked until I can get the solid perches put on. I believe that’s why the pinion has been slapping the floor.
i'd thinking a medium length torque arm...from under the diff with pivot about half way forward on the snout to rear of trans crossmember....trying for say about inch higher than parallel to the driveshaft on trans end...at 5psi you should have enough torque to create a useful amount of anti-squat....and maybe mount a couple of dead batteries worth of ballast in the spare wheel well as a quickie move the C/G back another inch...the ultimate would be to get the whole car lift up with little change in rake under full power rather than front or (to be avoided at all cost) rear sag...
