Remember to lubricate the axle for the rear wheel, before assembly, and start the engine before changing the oil 😉
You need to inspect your oil filters That will show you if you have bearing material in the oil Look for particulates of metal

If I were you I would keep those old levers take them with you so when you fall of at a later date on the trail and break one you will have spares
Another tip from my motorbike trial riding is don't tighten the two clamps up that hold the levers to the bars to tight so if you fall off the levers will twist not break off
Sound advice, I'll add we like to thread a new clutch cable in case we snap one, that way you can change over to the new cable literally in 5 minutes. 750 lb paracord, just in case you got to tow one of the van vans. I keep a doubled up piece tied to my triple tree underneath the headlight, great if somebody needs to give me a pull forward up or out of something technical.

I still think the noise is the cam chain tensioner.

Have you checked for an Air / Intake Leak ..... Simple to check ......have the bike on tick over and spray wd40 around the inlet manifold.....If the rev's rise when doing this you know there's a leak around there

Check your exhaust (muffler) possibly baffle coming apart and blocking flow.
The first thing I noticed on Lavi's bike was the brake lever. Glad that was replaced. Did the front sprocket get replaced as well? It didn't look like it but you should always replace both sprockets and chain at the same time.
It's great to get some experience working on bikes under supervision from someone experienced. Imagine if you'd done this learning before the world trip! 🤣
Yes we did replace both 😊 haha that would have been useful knowledge before heading on the RTW trip 😂
@@LaviandOllie Did you go down a tooth on the front sprocket? Livens up the engine brilliantly. On my second van van now ans they are the coolest things on the road.
Did you guys try looking into the fuel tank to make sure that there’s no dirt or grime in there or interior rust?

Just keep at it till you've got everything in working order, so you can mix anything once on the trail. Almost anything can break once you're riding hard. Part of the fun.

In my opinion the complete loss of power would not be due to Piston Slap, if all the fuel system has been checked the ignition / ECU needs to be checked out. If all else fails pull off the cylinder head and check the valves and guides, a sticking valve could be the problem. Great videos with lots of humour and you will learn a lot from your excellent mentor. Enjoy the journey and ride safe, do not go on any long journeys until you fix the bike and eliminate the knocking sound.
I agree, it could be as simple as faulty or wrong heat range plug, faulty HT lead, or plug cap, or simply a bad connection on the LT side of ignition, including the key switch and kill switch. Has the battery been discharge tested and is it holding charge ok if bike not used for a few days.?......I'm sure all this is going through Roberts mind, and you'll get it sorted before you set off👍 🙏🤞

After training with the spanners at Robs you will be all set for the Trans Euro Trail should anything go wrong with the Van Vans. With a new engine fitted sounds like you are sorted now. A center stand is very useful. A simple thing that manufacturers should necessarily include in motorcycles that have a secondary chain transmission. It is incomprehensible and unacceptable not to have this equipment included on the original motorcycle. Suziki! What a shame!
I’d be a little happier if you were using a torque wrench to tighten up the key nuts and bolts , though that might just be the paranoid 60 year old me thinking , after the 18 year old me managed to strip a couple of bolts and had a few thing come loose back in the day 😃🤣🍻

Love your videos! So glad to see you guys using common sense and choosing the size of bikes that you chose for the trail you will be riding. These people who have more money than common sense that try and take big bikes like the BMWs and Africa Twins on type trails you will be riding are just plain stupid and/or have an ego problem. It's ridiculous to be riding on off road trails a bike that is so heavy you can't pick it up by yourself when you drop it. I know you guys dropped yours a lot at the first of your trip but you were using it 99% of the time on roads that it was designed for and not trails and I agree a big bike is the way to go for a road trip but not for a dirt/rock trails. You guys are so lucky to have someone like Robert helping you! I really like how he stands back and watches you do the work providing you guidance when needed giving you the experience you need to be able to make repairs on the trail yourselves.

Hi lavi and ollie, well done you two on doing that work on your bikes 🏍, I've been riding 50 years and I would never change my chain and sprockets that goes into my brilliant mechanic, it's only the last few years I started doing the basics. So sorry that the original problem has come back 😕, I guess it's back to rob to look deeper into the problem, I'll keep my fingers crossed it gets sorted once and for all. Why? The bikes were designed to run on E10.
@@davidmatthews3093E10 produces less power than E5, and it has more water in it. Water is not good for engines!

What was the valve clearance set at with feeler gauges when you put the top end back together. It sounds like the valve clearance is excessive. 46 years of being a motorcycle tech has my ears suspecting that.
If Robert has a long screwdriver, start the engine, put the tip of the screwdriver up near where the exhaust and intake valve rocker arms are, put the handle of the screwdriver against your ear and listen to Ollie’s engine noise first and then do the same thing on Lavi’s running engine and compare the sound. If that’s where your noise is coming from, have Robert adjust the valve clearance to Suzuki spec when the engine is cold. I don’t want to see you have a problem on your trip.
