    I went through a book cull waaaay too many times and it was positively heart wrenching every.single.time. But it needed to be done with all the international moves - I feel good many went to friends or were gifted to charity. Now in our forever home, my library is compact but important 😊

      It is a painful experience, and I debated it for a long time. In the end, I just had to bite the bullet. I never sold all of my books, and although my library is A LOT smaller, it's much more valuable, kinda like cutting the wheat from the chaff.

    This is a great way to recoup a few bob during a clearout.
    I had a major book declutter a couple of years ago, I always donate books once I've read them now either via a friend reading after me then giving to a charity shop or directly to the community centre shop or charity shop. That way everyone gets a chance to read a keep a book even if they can't afford to buy one.
    I also listen to audio books for free from our library.
    There are a few books I like to read again & they stay on the shelf.

    What a great idea for culling your books! And what an eclectic range of books you have, from Schwarzenegger to Jordan Peterson! Arnie was my childhood hero growing up too. But I found the last few books of his left me feeling like an abject underachiever after I read them!

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Pƙed 2 měsĂci +1

      Schwarzenegger did some amazing things and, after growing up watching his movies, he was my childhood hero, too. But after reading his book, that changed. He may be a high achiever, but he cheated on his wife and hid it for many years, and I didn’t like how he dumped his manager that stayed with him through the hard first years of his acting career as soon as he got his big break. So, now I make a point of not reading the books of people I like 😅

      @@Roz.S probably a good rule of thumb. Nothing wrong with looking back on our childhood idols with fondness and healthy a measure of idealism. That’s why I never read Lassie’s autobiography ;-)

    Hey Roseanna! Long time no see. It's always great to declutter and get some headspace. I remember discussing the benefits of a bookshelf with you years ago but there's always a million more books to read and space always runs out eventually. Great to have a video to watch alongside breakfast but couldn't believe it when I saw Shoe Dog was on the way out haha

      Great to speak to you again! I'm sure I'll refill my shelves again soon. As you said, there are always more books to read! Shoe Dog was a great book, and I enjoyed reading it, but I don't think I'll ever re-read it, so off it went 😅 Hope you've been keeping well x

    hi, im surprised you havent got a kindle for your travels, i used to have hundreds of books, and although ive kept a few i gave in and bought an ereader after saying i was never going to😄 i like the fact you can take a dozen or a hundred books away with you and make the text bigger on the page to suit your eyesight. the e=ink can be read for hours unlike a tablet or phone and doesnt hurt your eyes. i also listen to audiobooks on mine.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      I use the kindle app on my iPad. I know it’s not the same as Kindle, but I don’t read as much when I’m travelling because I’m usually far too tired in the evenings 🙈 Personally, I prefer physical books but it’s not practical to bring along a full library when traveling 🙈😅

    It is great to see you and Winston 😀 I hope you both are well and are enjoying life. Mercy, it hurts to see those books go 🙈 but I understand the need and freedom of decluttering. I need to do the same with a few of mine at some point.

      I have been thinking of selling some books for a while, but only recently managed to pluck up the courage and actually go through with it. I had to tell myself that a book is only worth keeping if I am going to read it again. I hope you and your family are well and are having a wonderful summer. x

    Hi! Helpful vid - thanks. Was wondering how to offload some books other than eBay/charity shops. Curious about shipping? Can you chose the postal service you use? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Pƙed rokem +4

      Sadly, no, you can't choose the postal service. WeBuyBooks uses Evri. But you don't have to pay for postage and you can arrange for the boxes to be picked up from your address at no additional charge. The boxes are tracked, just make sure you keep the delivery note from the courier as proof of collection. Hope that helps.

    Do they say anything about the condition of the books? I've some with foxing. Any idea if these are accepted?

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Pƙed 3 měsĂci +1

      When you send the books off, they are checked before payment is made. I have sent books that have been highlighted in areas and/or had notes scribbled in the margins. This was no problem and nothing was said. I think they’re mainly checking to make sure you sent the books you said you were going send. As long as they’re in a reasonable and readable condition, I don’t think you’ll have a problem.
