  • After last week's 25 miles walk from Downtown Los Angeles to the Santa Monica Pier, I decided to stay in the city. In the heart of LA, there's one of the largest urban parks in North America, Griffith Park. It's mostly known for Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Sign, but what's really great about it, is that you can wander there for hours, setting your own routes, depending on how your'e feeling that day, choosing to walk up following the truck road or scramble up steep trails to the top of the few summits there.
    My favorite route starts in the East, up to Mt Hollywood, Hollywood Sign, Wisdom Tree to Lake Hollywood, and offers gorgeous panoramic views, a great workout, and this time the weather surprised me with clouds, sunshine and walk in fog. On top of that, I caught incredible sunrise and sunset and it was just an amazing day in Griffith Park. I wonder if we all experience this place in a similar way.
    I hope you guys enjoy watching the video, see you on trail!

      I actually have. I am from South Carolina, and my family and I had the very rare opportunity to stay in the L.A. area for 4 weeks straight! My daughter was an intern for one of the movie/tv studios, but she had no place to stay and the position was unpaid. So, her mother and I were able to make arrangements with work so that we could come out to California also. While we were there we were able to hike Griffith Park (Mt. Lee, Mt. Hollywood and to Cathy's Corner), Eagle Rock by the coast and half way up Mt. Thom at Brand Park in Glendale! Not many you-tubers do that hike (you might want to do that one.) We had a great time hiking in the L.A. area!

    Absolutely well-rendered captures and angles! This video is a consummate work of art! The moody cloudy weather really also helped create an atmosphere as a great backdrop to your sensitive and detailed filming and drone! I really loved the foggy scene along Cahuenga Peak! WOW!!

      That's very kind of you to say all this Brian, I truly appreciate it. That day gave me all, gorgeous sunrise, sun and warmth, fog and drama, and also beautiful sunset! I think you might appreciate another video I made, one from Iron Mountain, I feel like I was able to capture the beauty and struggle that day. Cheers man!

    👍 👍 👍 thumbs up my friend! You must have iron legs. That is lots of miles you covered 😉 on the utube. I have been living nearby Griffith park for many years. I recently discovered Hogback trail. I believe this is the best 👣 trail in the park. I see lots of peoples but still undiscovered by many. Instead of doing the same trails everytime, i decided to do a different trail. It turned out outstanding. I usually park my car on Ferndell & hike all the way to Observatory. I hike down to Boy Scout trail to the golf ⛳ course and Vermont tennis 🎾 court. I walked up to that iron gate all the way to Hogback trail. I go to my car through to Dante's View to the Observatory to Ferndall. I love ❤ 😍 it. I will do lot more on these trails. I want to do Commenwealth section of Griffith Park as well. Griffith Park is a great gift to people's of Los Angeles County, #2 in size 😀 in the nation. I recognize the most of scene in your video, except the the American Flag area. I plan to go all of the major areas in Griffith park. Great video. 👍 👍 👍. It feels nice to see familiar area.

      Hi Robert! Thanks for watching and sharing your story and connecting to the place. I used to live off Hollywood/Highland so Griffith was my to go quick hike. It is so rich in trails and one can spend there literally whole day figuring out your own route. Keep on hiking and see you on trail!

      @@MichalOlender thanks for your reply. Your response explains the way you went to reach the Hollywood Sign. Most of us go there through Muhland Trail Head. It looks like you reached through Mt. Hollywood drive. There is one big water thank, I don't remember the #. There is a small and narrow dirt trail opens up once you pass the water tank. I wasn't sure I got on the correct trail when I went there. Once I reached V shape rock 🪨, I was seriously thinking about going back. Once I reached the relatively flat land area,it wasn't getting easier. There were multiple routes of trails. It was challenging for sure. The American flagged area is Wisdom 🌳 & Cahuenga pass. I see it on the map. I don't remember seeing an another trail,but I will try it again. I really looking forward to it.

      @@robertlee2170 The route I did is one of my favorites, I actually drove up Vermont and parked by the restrooms, opposite side of the golf courses. Then I walked in right after the golf courses and turned in left into the hills at some point. I'm really bad with names so I can't tell you the exact route. from there it's walking West. Up to Mt Hollywood, and I most of the time choose the harder routes, that take you on the trails up the hills and behind them. I enter Mt Lee Dr leading up to the Hollywood Sign pretty close to the peak. From Hollywood Sign, towards the Wisdom Tree I take (had to look it up) Wonder Vw Trl, that lead all the way to the tree. The same trail then goes down on the side of that mountain, taking you to the Hollywood Reservoir. Enjoy and be safe :D

    I recognize that "broken branch" and rock wall at 7:24, you're on the "short cut" path to merge with the Chapel trail which is between water tank 153 and to Mt. Lee drive(the hollywood sign). At 8:39 you're on top of Mt.Lee looking down on the Hollywood sign. Then you're on the Getty Trail climbing over Cahuenga peak(1800ft) at 9:18. The camera angle really makes it look scary, but it's not bad just some big boulders that require hands to climb. I go to the park often, and I know every single trail. You should try the Powerline Trail, which loops to the Wisdom Tree trail(Burbank Peak trail). Beautiful video. One of the best I've ever seen for Griffith Park hiking. It must have taken all day to hike and do all the camera set-ups. Did you walk the complete perimeter of Lake Hollywood? BTW, for anyone wondering the USA flag at 11:00 is a special monument for 9/11. Not trump. Peace 2021.

    • @MichalOlender
      @MichalOlender  Před 3 lety

      Wow, sounds like you do know every single trail! I appreciate you taking your time to watch the video and a the kids words, thank you! I've gone there ten of times, but I'm so bad with names that I wouldn't remember any trail names, so I appreciate you naming them for me, hopefully the names will stick, I always just remember things by landmarks.
      I just looked up Powerline trail, will give it a try next time. I remember few years ago, I walked down where the flag was, not sure if it's an official trail, it was really steep and sketchy at some point, and definitely not trafficked. To answer your question, I took Hollywood Lake Dr entrance to the reservoir and exited by the dam and continued south to Hollywood, it was enough for the day. Filming and setting everything up does add good amount of time but I made it to the reservoir right for the sunset so it was a great ending there. Again, thank you for watching and all the info!
