A House Designed as an Architectural Response to the Landscape (House Tour)

- A house designed as an architectural response to the landscape, Bendemeer House by Ponting Fitzgerald, with interior design by Seagar Design, is a place from which to take in the spectacular views of the natural environment just outside of Queenstown on New Zealand’s South Island.
The house provides protection from the harsh elements that the site is subject to, acting as an architectural windbreak in its arrangement as a U-shaped structure with a sheltered courtyard at its centre. This courtyard-house design is fundamental to the way the architecture engages with the landscape, enabling the architectural home to sit as a discrete pair of concrete, timber and glass pavilions that provide luxury within and a sensitive, recessive form in the environment.
The detail belies the simplicity of these forms, with the architecture balancing a sense of comfort and luxury that is provided by the detailed design with the robust, deliberately simple qualities that respond to the jagged landscape that surrounds. Similarly, the interiors by Seagar Design take inspiration from the hues of the landscape, the views of which can be glimpsed from every space, with every detail, from the palette to the art and furniture, complementing the architecture’s response to the incredible natural beauty of the Queenstown landscape.

Absolutely love this house, gorgeously framed views in every direction. Everything looks so seamless and hidden as well, great job.
Such a phenomenal project by Ponting Fitzgerald Architects and Seagar Design! Hope you enjoyed the video.
Can you afford it?
Very very dark overall, but in such a calming way. It really is a perfect fit for the landscape
Exactly right! Hope you enjoyed the video.
This place is the most chilled out excitement I've probably ever seen.
If all modern architecture was like this, I would have absolutely no issues with it. Tastefully done.
Stunning in every detail. It is the attention to every detail that makes it such quality work...like strolling in the landscape, like you're outside...only there's a quiet whisper of a dwelling wrapped around you. It's gorgeous.
Dark & stimulating ! Cleverly articulated picture windows that not only frames the stunning views but also brings most of the Outdoors ... Indoors !
the best video that I see in a reference of a house ever love the desing as a real magnetic field activated
I can only imagine the lightings during the night 😍
Beautiful home which is quite understated and comfortable as it's set in a captivating landscape which can be viewed through the homes floor to ceiling windows. It's very nice.
Wow incredible landscapes ... picks and vegetation. Beautiful shapes all around.
I love how it contrasts with the landscape. Amazing architecture and interiors. Okay I am ready to try and get some experience in New Zealand. Take me and teach me please.
We're dying to get to New Zealand too - it's such a beautiful country!
Absolute perfection!! The mountain views, the home, the design, I'm blown away!
Such a beautiful house with attention to detail, to die for!!
You really motivate me Local Project. Thank you very much!
Incredible landscape! I love how the views are so carefully framed by the architecture.
Very well said!
A very sensitive, tactile designed home, views to die for... beautiful.
Completely agreed - David & Adrienne have done an amazing job on this project.
Stunning residence. Usually minimalist architecture is cold and corporate. I'm thinking Richard Meier. This home is severe but the warm wood and handmade tiles relax the hard lines. A wood burning fire. Lit candles in amber votives. White lilies in a vase. It's the simple touches that make this masterpiece breathe.
Very calming house and beautiful landscape and a good place to relax, Magnificent!
Stunningly beautiful. I'm sure that any guests the owners have will enjoy visiting this place. (I know I would!)
We were lucky enough to see this one in person earlier in the year and it was an absolute pleasure to visit!
Amazing architecture + Interiorism and incredible videographer you have! espectacular scenes, light and colorgrading.
Thanks for the kind words Jan!
I was wondering why nobody built a kitchen with as an island. And here it is. Amazing.
Everything about this house seems like it comes straight out of a Bond movie, and I am in love with it
Very true! 😂
The clients are rich AF!
I love the way you say simple like it’s a cheaper option!
Go do some pro bono work and see how creative you are!
stunning black colors combination ...Amazing an clean walls
beautiful home, dark yet calming. by the way i really like the guy's voice, so calming
This house is a mood!
A huge mood!
A truly special home, in a truly special part of the world. Be it on the rugby field or in the design industry, New Zealand consistently proves why they are among the best.
Couldn't agree more - the Kiwi's definitely punch well above their weight! Here's to hoping AU and NZ travel open up again very soon..!
The house is so pretty, and calmly vibe ♥️
Beautiful! Simple and respectful.
I AM KEEN ON OF YOUR PROJECTS AND NARRATIVS...THANKS A LOT FOR TEAM OF LOCAL PROJECTS !!
wow i love the combination ..dark interior and the natural light from outside...
Glad you like it!
Absolutely stunning architecture and interior design.
Couldn't agree more - such a special project!
SPECTACULAR!
While this is a too austere for my taste, I love how the shape of the house and the windows really take full appreciation of its stunning setting. It's clear that a lot of thought went into this.
such beautiful architecture! Well done guys.
Beautiful isn't it! Thanks Samuel.
Beautiful response to the landscape!
It really is! Such a beautifully designed home.
Gorgeous!
This home is the ONE for me.
I love everything in this house. The only problem is that I only have a basic paying job. LOL. I need to say that Dir. Seagar's voice is incredibly perfect for VO! ❤️
Such a brilliant home isn't it! She'll very much appreciate the kind words about the VO!
fell in love with this home :)

Amazing details in this house.
Phenomenal work by Ponting Fitzgerald and Seagar Design!

Master piece
It really is!
Beautiful
I want to see what it would look like at night. 💚 This is amazing.
at last some architecture that works. Even if you take out all the furnishings, this building pops. How effective are those windows? pressure tested for air leaks?
beautiful
WOW. Like WOW 😳
Our thoughts exactly!
Gorgeous house!
It really is!
I had never thought about using dark materials in an alpine climate before, but it makes sense in a location where the wind likely continually steals heat from the structure. As such, I wonder why it's not more common, as it makes sense....
Over the moon Project, 👍
dark is beautiful
¿ quién dijo que lo oscuro repele la luz; e este proyecto la acoge de forma elegante.
Architecture student here. Went to my critique wearing all black and drinking black coffee. I still got mauled :)
😅
@@mohenn22smith27 what do you take me for? A fashion student from Soho lol. Might as well save up that money for a Quadro rtx XD
Song: Tomas Novoa - Arrecife
I like the exterior finish and design of the building with hallway corridors open to the outdoors through extensive use of glass. The living-kitchen areas though open via glass and beautiful views are incredibly dark and depressing inside, Where's the interior lighting?, I can barely see what is in the kitchen area. I don't know if the dark areas are not responsive to digital filming, thus it is hard to see? Personally based on my tastes as an architect I would lean to lighter interiors with natural wood. I leave it to the client and architect to ultimately decide what they want.
❤
Yes and yes dream for sure
Absolutely beautiful.... by the way... do all architects speak so poetic... architectural poetry 😁
It is rather marvelous but the atmosphere is like being in a hotel, not a home. But I like it!
Song / Music : Tomas Novoa - Arrecife
Soothing music, complements visual. Please list the track info.
thank_U, in advance.

It's: Tomas Novoa - Arrecife
Отличный вкус.
overall i enjoyed the design, and the hidden kitchen elements. However, why not hide the washer dryer as well?
💙💚💛
what a house !
Breathtaking isn't it.. Such a beautifully designed home.
@@TheLocalProject indeed, it feels like we live in nature. So calming and refreshing 😍

Could you do usonian homes next?
We will one day!
anyone else getting ikea malm vibes from the black American oak
Hi Local Project Team, would you guys know where was the lighting for the dining table from? Thank you
franticfoto ……….the Lighting over the dining table is a Rhythm Pendant designed by Arik Levy. Hope that helps
Fabulous; could I ask what is the dark timber external cladding you used ? Thank you.
It is Cedar stained with a Dryden wood oil called “stone’
Tim Miles thank you.
Cheers Tim!
Clinically simple.
Wish you'd take us through the design concepts and plans, sections & elevation studies, especially with its siting responses.
We appreciate the feedback Anil!
It's a soulless house. You know that from the strange painting in the entrance. I wonder if the architects know about Feng Shui and energetic stress lines? It's a horrid vision of a dead future. If you live too long in that house I'm wondering if the inhabitants would get depression.
I wouldn't say it's a soulless house, but rather a house for dark souls
😊
I hate darker tone but this is exeptional kudos to the architect..
Jewel box frontier fort.
I live off the grid in South America but I live next to a river. How do they get water to this house? Can somebody tell me?
They most likely have running water from a nearby town with a water treatment system.
Yes Omar is correct. It has connection to a local town supply water system….
Is it near a city?
Yes, Arrowtown and Frankton are both nearby.
I love this house but clearly, nobody lives there... not really what a house is suppose to be about.
There is a terrible amount of compression artifacts in this video at 1080p - you guys need to set higher quality in your encoding before uploading.
song?
I need the music in this video
Tomas Novoa - Arrecife
Could have been done better.Too dark for a family. Its like a concrete bunker just being decorated with more marble .More wood and natural tones would have made it more home like.
Soundtrack id?
We'll get back to you on this!
Tomas Novoa - Arrecife
@@GeSpb thank you
This time we live in will once be referenced as the depression age, characterized by awful grey boxes
We disagree strongly!
Shape moves everything less !!!
Not my taste...The landscape has so much colour reflected in it which could have been integrated into the texture and colours of the house, making the inside and outside merge into a beautiful wholeness
Fair enough, thanks for watching!
Why does all of these projects have bad lighting?
its aesthetic
Where do you go to buy bread here? 😂
