  • It's hard to think that this TR8 was with us two years ago now. It's one of our favourite cars that we've had in over the last few years, and for those of you that missed it we've condensed the 6 part project series into just 16 and a half minutes of highlights
    The 3.9 litre stage 1 engine combined with the Weber 500 carb and RPi ignition package totally transformed this TR8 into the amazing car it was always capable of being, and it certainly made it harder to give the keys back to the customer because we wanted to keep driving it :) If you want us to transform yours too, give us a call or send us a message and see what we can do for you.
    Of course, you can also find the full project on our channel, episode 1 is here: • RPi Engineering TR8 - ...

    I repaired a convertible TR7 head gasket using a 10.5CR 175hp V8 and some better brakes and suspension. All standard easy-to-find parts (other than exhaust manifolds/downtubes) and it all fitted together beautifully and, with Milltek exhaust, sounded as good as it drove. Brilliant car. Your great video brought back all the memories!

    I bought a 1980 TR7 in 1981. It was a leftover from previous model year. Still own it. Not that powerful on the highway but fun on country roads.
    Your car is a sleeper because the TR7s were originally supplied with 2.0 liter engines under 95 HP. That car is very very nice.
    You made a good car a great one. Nice job.

    Like a dream........I owned a brand new 1980 US model TR8 and I really loved that car. But, as with many cars of this era (and this make) they do need some common sense, clever restomodding to bring out their full potential. Always been curious about a TR7 retrofit V8 with the modern upgraded and improved Rover V8 (I would choose the black Spider Edition TR7 with the red plaid interior - couldn't get that combo with the TR8) and this proves it is a viable and desirable setup. I can only dream of hopping into this car on a warm sunny day, drop the top, put some great music on the stereo and just drive! Very impressive and nicely produced car and video!

    Great work guys! Love to see like minded shops across the pond putting together top notch TR8's! What kind of power does your 3.9 or 3.5 setup put down?

      @RPIEngineering  Před 4 lety +5

      Thanks. Power output all depends on the engine build, ancillaries etc. However a conservative 220bhp with excellent road manners from a 3.9 stage 3 engine.

    I learned one thing, don't use the Holley . The offy duel port manifold design dates back to the 60's and was a hit from day one. I guess the clean car was a result of the pig engine fitted,the owner spent more time cleaning than driving.

      Depends who you talk to.
      David Freiburger from MotorTrend/Roadkill favours the Holleys and has shown how to tune them.
      He's also shown the difference between single plan and dual planes on engines and how the power curves are affected :).
